Goddamnit .
The lady responsible for the Nature manuscript forgot to hand in 2 checklists, which now need to be delivered within 48 hours, bc it will get sent to peer review.
But the lists don't load on her computers, so I spent the last 2h filling out that... faeces.
And her mobile connection is faeces as well, so she can't respond right now, and prob needs to do tomorrow.

Luckily we did everything right, but it's highly annoying.
And they'll send it out, which is great :D.

My Canadian phone provider may have just made it immensely difficult to travel, right after I invested in a US SIM. I should have just invested in a North American SIM and done away with this two-SIM idea.

I use Ting (Canadian?) and have a single sim good anywhere.

It has roaming in Canada, so it's at least an option. I doubt I can transfer my number, though, to a US provider.

Well, I could transfer my US number, maybe, and I guess switch to using an American number for everything. Not sure how much of a winning strategy that'd be. Meh.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get with one of the oligarchs. They tend to have roaming in the US.

I'm reading a historical fantasy series set in Arthurian Britain by Jack Whyte and although the books are pretty good, the author cannot write sex scenes to save his life. Way too much emphasis on the fluids.
If that is what straight sex is like, I'm glad I'll never have to deal with that!

So long as you prep properly, I suppose.

I am quite sure that this isn't Arthurian Britain, so… more for us then.

But, if you ever read King Rat by James Clavell, you'll find a statement by a doctor there to the effect that the ickiness of coitus does not depend on the gender of the participants (you'd better read the book, it's worth it).

I thought that Ting was a Canadian company. We didn't have any trouble getting them to transfer our US numbers.

God I suck at gift wrapping. Doesn't matter how many tutorials I watch.

I'm sure that's true. One tutorial should tell you everything there is to know. After that it's just practice. Unfortunately, it's one of those things where nothing can substitute for practice so the only way to get good at it is just doing it a lot.

I cannot gift wrap to save my soul. My latest ploy is to say, "Let's go shopping for your gift. You point it out; I'll pay for it." :smug:

*points at a bank vault*

Just talked to my gf on the phone. She's crying the blues because she did all her Christmas shopping on line and had the stuff delivered to her sister's house, and she had to wrap it herself.

Ah, Tak the Clavellian.

I officially feel old now. Came across a video on YouTube about restoring old game consoles. It referred to the original Xbox as a retro console. Things that were around when I was a teenager are now being called "retro". Stop the ride, I want to get off.

Things that weren't even around when I was a teenager are retro, so quit whining.

Rant: Laptop fan stopped working. Had to be very delicate with heat for couple of days until got repaired.
Spoiler :
Spoiler Text more or less to myself, so can skip this if have other things to do :

My old, rusty, clumsy laptop (some would say its older than universe) some days ago lost its fan (cooling). While cleaning, I somehow got one wire off - nope, no power anymore. Since living in countryside and have some jobs to finish before can get free day (need some eight hrs with bus/train to and bus back from capital city), had to wait little bit. And since its old laptop, I also realize that there could be no exact part at all and might need to risk and take other similar type of fan (with whatever casing it has). Found something similar on one shop homepage, went to that shop and took gamble. Risk paid back - casing is different but fan itself is exactly the same. Now again laptop is cool and can do some other stuff.
But before that - since was limited to heating - got some new view on what heats up it. Funny was that downloading and watching movie on media player was relative cool thing - but trying to watch online and it instantly got to 100+C (turn-off) border). Also watched movies from full emotional spectrum. That was awesome! Crying, laughing, deep thoughts and some 'whatever, its fun". And got some touch on writing down things just for me. But it was great - like some psychologist session. Just for free. I never knew I need this until it did happen.
And day I visited (because of reason above) capital (23/12) was last working day before Christmas holidays - was fun to see people rushing around, buying gifts or stuff for dinner etc. Despite being really warm day for local standards (+7C... it is supposed to be around or below 0C), could feel some spirit of Christmas. I still celebrate winter solstice every year with pulling piece of log around house (did it day before went to capital) and burning it after to get rid of all bad things from previous year, but having general "Christmas" stuff is totally fine.
If (by accident :D ) got so far - :xmassign: :xmascheers:

Thank you Tim, Bird.

Feeling really stupid. Cat drew the short end of the stick on humans. Still actively dislike the dog(rough go for doggo too, I suppose), other cat doesn't have a ton of use for us most of the time, but this one has always come when I whistle.
