Random Rants 79: [Impassionating Intensifies]

I'd rather get the university to formally accept my application for a degree and also get steady employment while at it, so as to thoil* it, but it's an interesting objective.

*look the word up

The Boston Tea Party was in reaction to a law that significantly reduced taxes on tea, but gave extra privileges to the corporation that enjoyed a legal monopoly on importation and increased penalties on smugglers. Colonists were outraged that their natural right to evade unpopular taxes was being threatened, and that big businesses were being given extra subsidies.

George Washington would probably have been a loyalist if he had been given the military commission and honors he believed he deserved. He was not a particularly good commander, preferring complicated tactics that were often unworkable in a world without telecommunications technology to help synchronize units. Washington was however an extremely wealthy land speculator who wanted to extract rent from tenants on lands where the Crown wanted to stop more settlers from stealing from the Indians who lived there. Later on Washington was a major investor in alcohol distilleries that benefited from a Whiskey Tax that was designed in such a way to hurt smaller competitors. He decided not to run for a third term not because of high principles, but because he was not up to the job. He seriously injured his back when he literally fell off of his high horse while leading more troops to crush the Whiskey Rebellion than he ever had when leading his revolt against British taxes. The frontiersmen he fought had no more meaningful representation than the colonist had in Parliament, and the taxes that Congress imposed on them were far higher. Washington's administration was also under investigation for decisions that pointed towards either incompetence or corruption. By leaving office, it was easier to preserve his reputation and shift all the blame to subordinates like Alexander Hamilton (who did deserve a lot of the blame, but Washington deferred to him much more than a good leader would have).

^I didn't know about the later Whiskey Tax, I did know already that Washington decided to ‘only’ charge the revolutionary government some ‘expenses’ that quickly outrew what he would have collected had he just taken a fixed salary.

Oh and the streets will literally be destroyed if he runs tanks over them.

This is why you have to stop getting your info from CNN. The tanks will remain stationary and will only be on display, specifically because they don't want the roads to get destroyed.

How long have short term and long term bond yields been backwards? I'm not a guru, badly understanding only "OG" tools of modern finance as it once was put, but if the first sentence is not in error, something is deeply fudgy.

So now the left is resorting to pouring milkshakes laced with quick drying cement and beating journalists as well as doxxing and sending death threats to an 8 year old girl for mocking AOC.

But no, it's conservatives that are the threat to democracy and free speech in the US, right?

Stupid violent ******* have always been a threat. No need to complicate that sentiment overmuch.

Some people are that way because they are hungry for things we should have distributed more optimally, by design if not specific allocation.

Some people are that way because the world is not enough. The hard part is in determining the sector that is our fault, and the sector than can only be controlled.

"concrete milkshake" is a myth.

mini AOC is run by her parents, so nothing is being sent to a child.

Those cuts and bruises all over that journalist's face aren't myths though.

The death threats were still directed at the child, not the parents.

I personally find it disgusting that you are sitting here trying to justify and minimize the all too common violence of the left. The same left that also has to fake hate crimes in an attempt to make conservatives appear as violent and hateful as they are.

Remember, we're fine people. They're fine people. Don't listen to the **** stains when they change the meaning of that. They the sort that's picking the fight because they think their balls just dropped. They're self fulfilling ****. Their kids* will miss them, but probably not because of violence.

*The ones that sneak through both(ha! it's all) ******** nets.

I don't know the full details of what happened, so I'm not justifying the violence or the death threats. I'm just shutting down your hyperbole and alternative facts.

the all too common violence of the left.

You could not have picked a worse topic to measure the left by

The ADL is hardly a reputable source on the matter since their whole "business model" revolves around drumming up fear about conservatives.

The idea that right wing extremism is commonplace in the US simply has no founding. Not to mention, the numerous supposed right wing hate crimes that have been proven to be hoaxes since Trump was elected calls past supposed hate crimes into question as well. How many of those were hoaxes that weren't identified as such simply because we, as a society, just took the victims' word at face value?

Snerk, I thought you knew better English. The tanks are the ones that have caterpillar tracks and don't poop.
Hmm I disagree. Tanks poop noxious fumes and greenhouse gasses. Horses poop lumps of compacted grass, and while their fumes are gloriously loud, it's low in methane as the horse is not a ruminant.

And what was proven to be hoaxes?

This makes me sad.

Mad Magazine to cease publication of new material
US satirical publication Mad Magazine is ceasing publication of new material after 67 years.

The magazine will stop publishing new content after its next issue. Any new issues will feature previously released content with a new cover.

It will also now only be available in comic stores and to subscribers.

Many fans responded to the news to share their disappointment. Some described how influential the magazine had been growing up.

Mad Magazine was known for its striking front covers, in which it parodies both current affairs and popular television programmes. It often featured the magazine's gap-toothed child mascot Alfred E. Newman on the cover.

The magazine was founded in 1952 and began life as a comic book before changing to a magazine format in 1955.

DC, which publishes the magazine, told ABC in a statement: "After issue #10 this fall there will no longer be new content - except for the end of year specials which will always be new. So starting with issue #11, the magazine will feature classic, best of and nostalgic content from the last 67 years."

Many people, including singer and comedian "Weird Al" Yankovic, shared their sadness at new content coming to an end.

He said: "I can't begin to describe the impact it had on me as a young kid - it's pretty much the reason I turned out weird. Goodbye to one of the all-time greatest American institutions."

Forgive the stupid question, but I'm not a structural engineer and am wondering how big a deal adding quick-drying to cement to milkshakes actually is. I would guess this maybe wouldn't have much of an effect other than making your clothes perhaps permanently ruined rather than temporarily, but it can't really be that harmful can it? At worst it will leave you with a very thin dry crust on you which will just flake off pretty easily. I guess if it goes in your eyes that could potentially be bad, but I would guess it doesn't dry THAT quickly, and wouldn't be any worse than getting mud in your eyes or something. Your eyes will water and wash it out pretty quick, and maybe you might have a few flaky bits in there the have to blink out or wash out later, but...

Maybe completely wrong about that, but it just feels like it wouldn't be particularly dangerous. Unless you drink it of course...

Lol. So death threats are only bad when they're sent to minors now. Good to know.

It wouldn't even do that, adding sugar to quick-dry cement makes it stop drying.
