Random Rants 87: 2020 Is Just Aimee's Latest Sims Run

The new Path of Exile league starts this week and the changes to the melee aspects of the game are just terrible. Just terrible. :(

There's a heat warning in effect here.

BJ, you could finally try other games!

I'm not sure but I think that replacement games might consume him. Imagine him playing SkiFree with the same intensity he plays that game with the same initials as Pillars of Eternity. After the 80,234th time in an afternoon that he gets eaten by the dark gray monster he'll be as wound up as Tim when he hasn't posted in over three waking hours.

Forbes, "Trump once asked if Finland was part of Russia, Bolton book says", June 17, 2020

Forbes said:
According to an unpublished manuscript obtained by the Washington Post and the New York Times, Trump asked his chief of staff John Kelly whether Finland is part of Russia.

This isn’t the first time Trump has made basic geography mistakes: He once called the European country of Belgium a “beautiful city,” confused the Baltic states with the Balkans and mispronounced Nepal as “nipple,” Politico reported.

Bolton’s book also reveals that Trump asked if the U.K. was a nuclear power.
I mean, what is there to even say anymore? I'm (still) very worried about the election in the Fall.

I'm apathetic to these tell-all stories about the swamp. They were happy enough to be a part of it when they were in the cool guy club. Now that they're out, they're simply making a buck off a situation they helped create. The absolute deluge of Republican memoirs that will come out after Trump's gone will be a genre unto itself, and people will be too foolish to see it for what it is.

I agree that these people are just trying to enrich themselves rather than help improve the US governmental system, and the existence of this book does suddenly make John Bolton a "goody" rather than a "baddy". However it is better for the world for these details about how the state functions to be in the public domain.

I agree. If I had a "Rogues' Gallery" like Batman's, John Bolton would be one my villains. And yes, this is clearly a money-grab. That doesn't mean what he's written is either untrue or not worth knowing (on the contrary, one of the reasons I'm mad at him was his stated refusal to fight any subpoena to testify at the impeachment hearings - we needed to know this [stuff] a year ago).

I bet the Joker's memoirs would have made him richer than Bruce Wayne. Why did nobody think of it?

BJ, you could finally try other games!

I think that may be physically impossible for him.
Well I certainly could try a different game; I mean I've only been playing this one for 6700 hours. I could switch anytime, really, but a new league does start tomorrow and it would not be fair to the devs if I just ignored their effort. That would be mean. And there isn't enough time between now and 2:00 tomorrow to give any other game actual attention. Thanks though, you have piqued my interest enough that I will go take a look at my Steam library before I hit play on Path of Exile. :)

The depression is seeping back in. Not sure the best course of action this round. I have a big to do list and not really any ikigai. Objectively I’m all right, but day after day feels worse.

Down-swing from returning from Nicaragua(?)?

Down-swing from returning from Nicaragua(?)?
I care back from Christmas. I’ve been in Montana for 3 months in what has felt like the luckiest quarantine but now feels like a dragging endless cycle where my goals are slipping out of reach for no other reason than my own malaise.

I would go back there but covid is sweeping their country and the governments response they hope everyone gets it as fast as possible.

I don't know if I'm just being paranoid, but I'm suspicious of an invite from my father. My father, my brother, some of his friends and my uncle do this "cigar night" once a month. I don't smoke at all so I've never been invited nor have I ever expressed a desire to go. This month though, my father asked me if I want to come. They are doing it at my uncle's house and he said they are going to use the shooting range his neighbor has on his plot of land. My father made a specific point of this and was pushing for me to bring my rifle along.

My problem is I don't know if he just wants to get me involved or if my brother put the idea in his head so him and his friends can shoot all my ammo. Both my brother and his friends are what we in the gun community call "CISIG". It stands for "Can I Shoot It Guy". These types like to shoot other people's guns and burn through their ammo without offering anything in return.

So yeah, I don't know if they actually want me to be a part of their activity or if they are just inviting me so they can "play" with my gun. I say "play" because my brother and his friends are the types that see guns as toys, which is why I never invite them to come to the range with me.
