Random Rants LV: The Joy of Ranting

No, it does not force you to do anything of the sort. That frustrates me so much. Voters choose to do so even if they think there is another, better candidate. It is entirely on the voters, period.

Any voter who would prefer some 3rd person that isn't listed but votes for one of the two main ones instead of writing in their preferred choice, or even a 3rd person that IS listed but they choose not to vote for because they don't think the 3rd can win, is being untrue to themselves.

If there is a problem with our elections, it is because voters bring about the problems themselves.

It's a false choice at best because the playing field is absolutely rigged. It's the one thing the two major parties can actually agree on.

Unrelated: Got a rejection after the Salsa. Not from the girl I originally wanted to ask out today (doesn't always work the way...), but from the one I had in mind from the beginning on. Sucks :/. And she had been so flirty...:/. *sigh*
Let's see if I get tomorrow another one via email, or if maybe that works out...

...well...no...has a boyfriend.
Crap :(.

Well, I don't care if some other states want to play with non FPTP, but keep it the hell out of Missouri (and by extension the federal Presidential race.) FPTP is the way to go. There is no justification for anybody but the highest vote getter ever getting into office.

What if 5 candidates run, getting 21%, 20.5%, 20%, 19.5%, and 19% of the vote, and things were split in such a way that the 21% vote getter was the least-favorite choice for virtually everyone who didn't vote for them?

I have narrow but relatively 'normal' length feet, so my uppers always collapse in the middle. This is not helped by needing orthotic supports for also having flat feet.

Flat feet? When they first spotted that on me they said I practically had 'sunk feet'.

Perhaps ironically I'm a big fan of walking everywhere instead of taking any form of transport. :king:

One of the fancy terms used was 'fallen arches', yes.

No, I mean they said "more than flat feet, this kid has sunk feet."

Proportional is like the worst. Why would I want to put control of my representative in the hands of a committee operating thousands of miles away. It might work in a small country like the UK, but the US is just too geographically large and diverse for prop representation to make any sense.
Most American parties are organised at a state rather than national level, aren't they? So presumably this would carry over into a proportional system.

Officially, there is a national party plus a state party in every state. Due to the unique circumstances and history in each state, you can get some oddball local chapters of the national parties.

For example, the Democratic party in Minnesota is officially the Democratic-Farm-Labor (DFL) because it merged with the breakaway Republican progressives following the Great Depression.

I was going over the classes I need to take next semester to graduate with a BS in International Economics and apparently the Econ Department decided to not offer one of the classes I need to graduate. When I checked in the spring, the Econ Department said they were going to offer it. Now I have to work with the Department Chair to see what classes I can take they would recognize as filling that core requirement.

Rant: The national election results in general
Let's see.
  • When the Democrats win, you get a bunch of politicians who get the US embroiled in one foreign war or another, massacring innocents in the name of freedom, diverting valuable resources from worthwhile projects into the US military-industrial complex, trample on the liberties of some group one way or another (race controls, widespread espionage, damned immigrints, etc.), are hardly accountable, if at all, to the people who put them in power, and in general tend to rule in favour of and have their (re-)election campaigns bankrolled by big industry, bankers, financiers, etc.
  • When the Republicans win, [Ctrl+C][Ctrl+V] you get a bunch of politicians who get the US embroiled in one foreign war or another, massacring innocents in the name of freedom, diverting valuable resources from worthwhile projects into the US military-industrial complex, trample on the liberties of some group one way or another (race controls, widespread espionage, damned immigrints, etc.), are hardly accountable, if at all, to the people who put them in power, and in general tend to rule in favour of and have their (re-)election campaigns bankrolled by big industry, bankers, financiers, etc.
So, yeah, the Republicans/Democrats [delete whichever is inappropriate] coming in first and the Democrats/Republicans [delete whichever is inappropriate] second is something to lament.

Well, you see, some people are simply more open, more extroverted, and just because they are talking to you doesn't mean they're hitting on you. They might just be being friendly.

 The cheating barstuds! And they charge you for it… so does that mean you'll have to stay longer -and pay more to them as well?

It just means I need to talk to the department chair. Considering he used to be the advisor for International Studies and I otherwise would graduate with that degree I'm sure something can be worked out. That is one advantage about going to a smaller school in the faculty are generally more willing to work with you to resolve issues like this.

Hmmmm. If the man isn't a complet ejerk he should come to your rescue.

Do you need any help from the Takhisical Liberation Front?

So today I was like lel bird eye chillis are so tiny, ima put 10 of them on my pizza.

Soon I will be munching on scotch bonnets and wondering why I cant taste anything.

The Democrats are roughly 5.7% less crappy than the Republicans, though. It's a small difference, but it counts!

I tend to always assume people are just friendly with me, because I can never tell. That does mean that I never get sadly rejected like The J did, but only because I never try. After all, trying is the first step towards failure.

...And now I'm sad.

You should do more headbanging, choxorn.
