Well, it is a government job so I'm hoping against hope that my service to the nation may convince them to take mercy on me and overlook my mistakes and hire me anyway. It's a federal job too, so I'm hoping Obama's recent policy emphasis on getting veterans employed will help swing things in my favor as well.

Out of all the devices that the OnePlus 3 gets compared to, it is one of, if not the most expensive to make. Do you think the price delta between a 2K AMOLED and a 1080p AMOLED is huge?

Some people on discord group forgot about my gender and told me to be more assertive and man up. That' s what I get for playing computer games whose main target audience are men.

I don't want special treatment, but I want them to understand that it is ok to be shy and unassertive for someone who is not male.

I guess there is no way out - either you are "one of the boys" or you are a dumb chick. It takes maturity to realise there is a middle way, but I can't ask that much from 18-35 aged people who are gamers and have been in male enviroment for most of their online lives.

Just be firm, but courteous when you remind them that it's okay to be shy and unassertive when you're not male (or even if you are).

That's a pretty ironic thing to say on this site. But whateves I'm a little too old to be in that group so I can't even pretend to be personally offended, but at the same time... bemoaning a lack of understanding and civility online and then responding by insulting/blaming the maturity of 18-35 y/o males on a site populated by... well... you get the idea

Well, things are more civil here now than they were when I first joined. It's beyond annoying to be told, "You can't be a girl. Girls don't play Civ." The person who taught me how to play Civ II was a woman over 20 years older than me.

I agree that that is a good way to position yourself. But I understand I just don't fit in and although I try very hard, it is not working.

I mean, if I looked and sounded like a female, they would have a reason to treat me that way, but saying "I'm emotional, sensitive, shy, please try to be polite/calm/mature/careful what you say" never does the trick. Ok, i'm not saying those exact words, they sound a bit patronising, but the idea is that.

At the moment I'm on hormone therapy and I plan to get a voice surgery within next few years, and I understand that this struggle is nothing exceptional for trans people, but overall this repeating situation makes me sad.

I mean, (in many cases) when you are young you get treated with respect a priori only if you are sexually attractive for females or confident for males. I'm neither good looking or confident so I have work on that, but it is hard.

Rant: I can't get Rome Total War to work on my new computer. I was able to get it to load fine on my old laptop but I guess my graphics card just doesn't like it.
Ah well, Steam Summer Sale begins tomorrow and I can get Attila Total War then.

I don't know, it would be kind of boring no matter what perspective you play the game from. If you play as pirates, your little speedboat gets blown up by a modern naval warship patrolling the area. If you play as a naval patrol, you just blow up pirate speedboats that have no way of seriously fighting back. If you play as the merchant vessels being targeted, then you just call the navy for help and watch them blow up the pirate speedboats.
