Oh, yeah, this good TV show that was great until the fifth season is based on some books I really loved a decade ago.

I went to a feminism discussion panel today. It was pretty sad.

Young girls are supposedly scared to be called feminists, because if they come out as feminists they scare away the boys from the mating pool. The ruling elite in Latvia disregard feminism as trash from the west, therefore any woman who self identifies as feminist is borderline crazy and any man must be gay.

One woman here in capital city organises female stand-up shows and that's about the only steady activism we have there.

European Union is fine with giving us money to organise campaigns from time to time, at least we have that going for us.


If anyone else from Eastern Europe is reading this, please comment if it is as bad.

According to what I've seen over several of James Carville's appearances on MSNBC over the past eight hours, I apparently think about political races in virtually the same way that Carville does. When he was glum, I was glum. When he was marginally happier than that, I was marginally happier than that. At no point were either of us particularly happy tonight about the Democrats' prospects, except that they were going to pick up the House by a bit. But there was never any feel-good pablum, and our mood swings went in the same direction each time.

So yeah, apparently I think about politics the same way Carville does. That's not such a bad thing.

Filipinos look for any excuse to have a parade. Tomorrow, Jagna is opening its first McDonald's franchise. Tonight the parade for it jammed up the center part of town.
