legitimatizing rave: it's Friday, Friday.

I don't get it. What am I supposed to type? The highlighted word? Part of the sentence? All of it? Some random word in the middle?

I've got half that number. (49 wpm) Not to say that it's a bad test, but I would do MUCH better if I were typing coherent sentences. Once I get the basic 'feeling', I'm fine. With 'broken sentences', I keep looking back to make sure I actually typed the right word.

Highlighted word.

You people type too damn fast. :p

There are other sites that allow for the typing of a complete paragraph or two from Aesop's Fables or other short stories... or even just repeating single sentences. If it's single sentences, I can get 120 or more.

I've taken that test before, and gotten up into the 70's. Today I only got a 53.

Went to Cantigny today.

Cantigny is awesome.

Ive been known to get something like 180 wpm. But thats when my hands are not all stiffened up or what have you. Then theres the problem that I think slowly so Ive got to wait for my brain to catch up.

Woah, took the test again a few hours later (now) at home, and the height of your seat and distance from keyboard make a huge difference. I was stumbling over every word, still got 102 but felt terrible about my speed.

Groggy and in a hurry, first attempt:
You are better than 78.57% of all users (position 15686 of 73188 - last 24 hours)

I've never been a fast typer or handwriter, mind you.

You guys make me feel slow

89 laptop keyboard, 87 normal keyboard, 89 normal keyboard with 2 of them mistake free (made sure to be problem free).

consistent with other typing tests I've done. I could be faster but my right hand is significantly slower than my left hand in typing due to video game influences---I only use middle and index finger on right hand, and the positioning is kind of diagonal. My left hand hovers over the asdf keys on the qwerty keyboard (assuming you aren't some wierd dvorak person) while my right hand is position with index and middle roughly on the n and I keys.

a good example is the word "yearly" vs. "mountain". On yearly I go y (index) -> e middle -> a ring -> r index, thus having different fingers in rapid succession, while on "mountain" I actually go index m -> middle o -> index u -> index n, so I move around my index finger a lot (if I trained myself better and had proper typing positioning, I'd could do m middle -> o ring -> u middle -> n index)

I taught myself how to type. Error-free 115 WPM without home row... suck on it, home row & my computer class teacher!

rave: Olympic opening ceremony was pretty cool.

Ya I always thought keyboarding classes were really stupid. Why spend a whole semester learning to type when you can do it on your own in a few weeks.

yeah of course strict home keys are stupid but you naturally tend to hover over the asdf anyways (I would assume), as the backspace/enter/various punctuations are on the right and most people aren't very good with their pinkies to use that.

so your left hand can kind of hover in whatever position is natural for you when compared to your right hand.

I'm actually a peck typer. I'd say 60-80% of the keys I stroke are with my index finers.
