I do not have a specific video in mind. I have a friend in France who wants me to find and transcribe English videos related to her course material. She wants to use the videos to bring both current law related events and learning English together for her University level students. Having a transcription will help them over come some of the casual slang and accent issues often found on youtube.

Weeell. I didn't find the books particularly good, tbh.

I managed to watch all the films, though. Because they were on the TV at Christmas, and my vision was blurry. Possibly my hearing too. And I may have fallen asleep.

But, like Game of Thrones, I just didn't get the logic of it all.

First something happens (for no good reason), then something else (just because), and finally it all comes to an end (with a sense of relief, I'll admit), and I'm none the wiser (left scratching my head).

But, as I say, I'm probably missing something.

Well, the films are dismal. The books are OK, even if they aren't high literature.

I suppose. Sure. Maybe.

I'm guessing the films were just made to exploit the popularity of the books.

And the readers enjoyed their books coming to life (if they did), and they weren't too fussed about it making sense because they knew all the ins and outs anyway.

Bummer. I hope you are wrong and someone will see your post and tell us there is a great solution. [crosses fingers]

Just use notepad/gedit.

How will those help? My goal is to avoid having to type out all the dialog.

Then wait a couple decades until there's some decent software for that.

Typing out all the dialogue would help your friends acquaint themselves with the text.

Dragon speech recognition software is pretty good but its not free and I don’t know if it will serve your purpose

My friend wants me to do it, but I am not inclined even if the vids are less than 5 minutes. She will pay, but that does not entice me. Anyone interested?

If she's willing to pay, there are transcription services she can use.

Also, there're some tutorials on youtube that might be helpful:

Does she need them in any particular format? If she just needs a straight transcription I could probably help.

Depending on how much she's paying. :P

Awesome!! Thanks so much. I knew someone would come through.

J.K. Rowling made millions on that series, and what initially turned me off from even trying it was the relentless merchandising. Harry Potter-this and Harry Potter-that in TV commercials, print ads, in the store flyers, online... it got too much, and I decided that I wasn't going to have anything at all to do with it. I've stuck to that decision.

Besides, if I want to read fantasy, I've got a few dozen Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, and other AD&D-based novels on my bookshelf that I haven't read yet. Some of them are in incomplete trilogies, so when I complete the set, I'll read them.

At the moment I'm reading a Darkover anthology, just finished one of my favorite C.J. Cherryh SF books - which really needs a sequel; it shouldn't be up to the fanfic writers on AO3 to fill in the blanks (even though the stories there are so well done that Cherryh herself could have written them).

In a few days I'm going to be attempting Camp NaNoWriMo; you'd think since I aced all three competitions last year, that it would get easier.

It doesn't. I haven't done even a fraction of the prep work I should have by this point.

I tried to watch the first Harry Potter movie and I could never make it to "the good part", aka the one where people fly around on brooms and play that game. I would either fall asleep or get bored and leave. Maybe the books are better, but my reading list is way too long to include a children's book that isn't The Hobbit
