Does anyone here use a cloud storage with "unlimited" space?
I need circa 15TB space (yes, TB, not GB), and it seems that the cheapest is dropbox bussiness with 3 accounts, which would end up with 36€/month.
Alternatively I could also buy a NAS with 16TB for like ~800, which would be roughly the money for 2 years dropbox.
But then again, the price for online storage will probably further decrease, and the NAS has the problem that I might need to replace drives, AND it is in my house (so yeah, shouldn't burn down).
I'm tempted for dropbox, unless someone maybe knows a cheaper alternative.
(yes, doing both would be best, but hey, I'm not made out of money, sadly)

Do you have a lot of strangers wandering into your bedroom?

Depending on your point of view, yes. Since I can't lock the front door, I'm locking the next best thing. A burglar can rob my kitchen of its thrift store belongings and I won't care much. :mischief:

Why can't you lock your front door?

Cant you replace it yourself? If you are already getting one for your bedroom, you may as well go the whole way and pay for a proper one at the main door. Or brick up the entrance each night.

Surely your landlord has no reason not to fix his own property?

The front door unfortunately has the lock built into it... for some reason. I'd have to replace the entire door.

You'd think, right? Technically speaking I can force them to fix it but with Vancouver's rental market this would be... unwise of me. If I get evicted I'd need to leave the city in all likelihood which would be not great for accessing all the specialists and medical programs I'm involved with here.

If your landlord evicted you for forcing him to repair his own property, I can't imagine that people would be rushing to rent from him in a hurry.

It's a landlord's market. Renters are forced to bid above the listed price in order to get a chance at being picked for the blessing that is being allowed to live under a roof. There is no such thing as a landlord people won't rent from here.

He lives in one of the tightest property markets in the world. The landlord won't have a problem renting.

Yay for slum landlords in 2017!

Maybe two?

Can't you at least provide a decent prize?

Are you on a month to month lease? If so I think he has to give you 30 (or 60?) days to get out. Which would suck. But if you're on a longer lease he can't just get rid of you unless you broke some term in your lease, and he'd have to wait until your lease is over to get rid of you.

Landlord? Sounds more like a Slumlord.

30 days notice, and my lease transitioned to month-to-month about a year ago.

I don't know if I'd describe my current landlords as slumlords. They're very much your typical Vancouver homeowner who cashes in on the rental market to pay back their mortgage faster. I got in just before the latest rental price explosion so needing to move out would be bad news bears for me. The average rent for an equivalent room in this area is $300 more than what I'm paying now.

Ah okay seems like you are in a bit of a corner then.

However.. Look into what exact statues he's broken (or the lease itself?) by not fixing that door, and whatever else he's done or not done. Document it all just in case. Could help you out in the future
