I was thinking of starting from the very beginning. Ron Perlman voiceovers, turn-based combat mechanics, a return to the 1950s, corrupt politicians and spats with oil-rich Canada… that way we cannot be accused of escapism.

Specifically, isometric RPGs. The only one I've enjoyed was Pillars of Eternity!

You need to get yourself some Avernum. Steam summer same should be coming up soon. Avernum blows PoE out of the water. The Avadon series is pretty good if you enjoy character development, but the first game is a bit weak.
