Random Thoughts IV: the Abyss Gazes Back

Ohhh. Still don't understand the logic though. Priests usually don't gang rape, so there's no need to apply the death penalty to them. Priests who molest children should be removed from that position and put to trial in either case, so I do not think whether we apply the death penalty or not really matters here; those people should not be in the service of the church in either case.

Of course I'm open to discussing the possibility of extending the death penalty to child molesters as well.

I think it was just a little joke about Catholic priests being child molestors. It doesn't really hold up to much logical scrutiny as your proposed reforms would only remove convicted child molesters from the pool of potential priests, whom presumably even the Catholic Church wouldn't have been targetting.

... the goal would be, as stated, to remove child rapists from existence....

Child rapists are child rapists whether they rape one or two or a dozen. Catholic priests have a long history of being child rapists and molesters. Should they be killed or is that a church matter?

I didn't differentiate between "one-time rapist" and "serial rapist", I differentiated between "rape" and "gang rape". So if Catholic Priests get together to rape a person, yes, they too would deserve the death penalty under the original premise.

But of course, the premise itself was merely made because I was angry about the recent case from Freiburg and wanted to vent a bit, that's why the distinction to specifically target the crime of "gang rape" was chosen in the first place. In a more nuanced framework, that distinction between "gang rape" and "rape" would probably not make any sense, so if I were to make the argument to reintroduce the death penalty on more than emotional(, destructive) grounds, then it should probably also cover (child?) rape in general and other similar crimes where rehabilitative success seems unlikely.

So basically, what I'm saying is yes, let's kill all the molesting and raping priests as well. It's disgusting that the church seems to be protecting them in the first place.

Why? Are they sending priests to the moon? That's a pretty cool idea actually, a moon monastery.

Creates an interesting problem though: If they molest children on the moon, who's responsible for stopping them? Or do we just let it happen? We'd probably need some sort of "Space Force" if we want to intervene and enforce the death penalty up there, hopefully some man with great hair starts forming one somewhere.

What does that have to do with the moon monastery though? Can't just bring things up and then switch the topic randomly.

You obviously can, physically, as you've already demonstrated. But you shouldn't, because that's very confusing!

So, I still don't see what's so interesting up there.
Totally not going to spend money just because you tell me.
Uninteresting stuff, that's not what I'll spend my money on.
Particularly now, because there are other things that I still want to buy.
I was thinking about buying a black miniskirt earlier.
Don't think it's sensible because Winter is about to begin. But still.
I want a black miniskirt lol. Would fit very well with my two favorite winter jackets.
Temperatures are beginning to fall pretty rapidly though.
Yet, I really want one. How random.

I'm amazed that people who has watched Noam Chomsky's doc about USA government https://thoughtmaybe.com/requiem-for-the-american-dream/

and who are discussing it on reddit are totally disconnected from the point he makes - about systemic overwriting of economic status quo in USA. Instead they discuss whether the dream is alive or not. It is as if Chomsky wanted to make the title clickbait and people, without knowing better, took it as clickbait.

Critical thinking classes in all secondary schools should be the new norm whenever everything changes, and hopefully it is the next century or sooner.

Do it in leather.

Can anyone deny that this describes the world we live in pretty accurately?

I wondered why it wasn't opening. Then I minimized the window. :crazyeye:

Well, upon prompting from someone who isn't you I found out that the link goes to a piece of short fiction, which was a decent read. I would say that calling it an accurate description of the world is pretty grandiose.

I'd also say that the author, just in case they are handy, would be well served to look into a rewrite ending at the point where they really had a good punchy story. I think about two thirds in they had hit a good point of climax, but it seemed like they couldn't see how to wrap it at that point and just started staggering forward.

It's called hyperbole. Maybe my 'lack of credibility' has something to do with other posters here (i.e. you) not understanding the concept?

LOL...maybe, but I doubt it.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that when that story was a link provided by a poster that most people consider a right wing dingbat with a fetish for defending Israeli genocides there was hardly anyone who was going to go read it. Now that I've publicly identified it as a harmless bit of amusing fiction instead of the kind of crap you usually link it will get more reads.

Moderator Action: A little less vitriol, please. Don't refer to people as dingbats. --LM

Because I not only understand credibility, by all indications I actually have some around here.
