Random Thoughts IV: the Abyss Gazes Back

Who wants to be my vice-president?

Well I'm British, but I'm over 35 and I have my own passport, so clearly I'm the perfect choice. :)

Definitely. When running a Canadian candidate for POTUS it is very important to consolidate the British vote.

Get me for the Latino vote. Who said you can have only the one vice-president?

That man would be his own vicepresident if he could.

He is VP of his family.

I actually did try to read the article, but it was very long and didn't seem to go anywhere, so I stopped around the point his boss tried to beat up one of the other employees. Would have benefited from a clear thesis statement up front.
I thought that the article was far too long to read without context.

Okay, kill me! I should have made it clear what I was linking to, instead of just making a clickbait one-liner. I'm a failure as a human being.

Think again. CFC is a community, much like the community of states. You want to espouse a view that most everyone thinks is ugly and still be treated like a rose. This is not surprising, since it is a solid parallel to your "defense" of Israel.

No, most people on here don't obsess over my views on Israel. It's more that I'm perceived as being on the other side of the culture war, i.e. sexist, xenophobic, homophobic, etc, because I don't actively consider myself a leftist. It's a 'with us or against us' thing.

I can get along with a bar full of rednecks long enough to finish my beer and leave. It's their bar. I consider that a valuable skill and a good outlook on life.

Maybe it's difficult for people in your camp to realize this, but the internet doesn't have too many places where conservative viewpoints are treated as okay (except maybe on a major social networking site, but I've resisted them my entire life and I'm not about to give in now).

You're being a conservative isn't nearly as off-putting to me as your refusing to admit when you're wrong.

Hey, I think I've invented a word: thoughtoid. Modeled on factoid. A little thought that you're from the start not claiming is any big profound thought.

Do you like it? Don't reject it out of hand; factoid probably sounded odd when you first heard it, but it caught on. Give it a minute or two to familiarize yourself with it.

I have no idea at all what your political views are or even where you live really, and my feeling is most people have more nuance to his or her beliefs than just siding with one side (though I've been seeing things changing, with many Republicans not really thinking critically any more but just believing whatever Trump tells them to, which makes me feel very sad), and I can't comment on your views. But in my short time here, I've definitely felt you express a very strong disrespect for feminine viewpoints and a complete lack of empathy for how sexism affects women, and my feelings are not based on my perceptions of your political leanings but rather on things you've said and supported.

If you're finding people seem to have a negative view of you, have you considered perhaps it could be a response to what you say? You totally can choose whether or not you listen to people and self reflect, and you'll find good and kind people will always be willing to accept you if you're compassionate also. And like I said I can't comment on your other labels you feel people give you because I haven't seen enough of your posts, but my perception of your sexism at least is purely from my interactions with you, and so I wouldn't be surprised if others have formed opinions likewise. Your best opportunity and path to growth and change is to start by listening.

It's OK.
Thoughtoid is a fairly decent wordoid.

The suffix -oid refers to having the appearance of something, thus a factoid is something that appears to be factual (but isn't).

You're being a conservative isn't nearly as off-putting to me as your refusing to admit when you're wrong.

Another problem is that these posters feel free to make unfalsifiable claims about me without also feeling any need to justify their criticisms.

Let's make a template: Mouthwash, your response to ___'s post, quoted here, is wrong because ___, and I feel that your inability to understand the simple point that ___ suggests you aren't being honest in this discussion. (Disclaimer: I am not agreeing to concede every criticism if the template is used.)

But in my short time here, I've definitely felt you express a very strong disrespect for feminine viewpoints and a complete lack of empathy for how sexism affects women, and my feelings are not based on my perceptions of your political leanings but rather on things you've said and supported.

Case in point: you made all sorts of offensive claims about how males (specifically, lonely and desperate males) think, and I called you out on it. I was extremely careful not to reject the female perspective or to claim that women weren't really suffering, but it was nonetheless interpreted by Synsensa and others as 'blaming you for your own suffering.'

I think factoids are facts. What they aren't is information. The material in a factoid is factual, it just comes to you apropos of nothing, so it doesn't do what facts ordinarily do: inform some claim or argument or your understanding of a subject or whatever.

If I can get thoughtoid to catch on, and I get the 1000th post in this thread, I'm calling the next installment Thoughtoids.
