Random Thoughts Sechs: Eeeeehhhh...

In (my part of) the UK, milk is about £1.50 for 2 litres. Petrol is maybe twice that? I don't drive, so I'm not sure.

Milk here is generally around $4/gallon. Gas between $3 and $4. Gas prices vary a lot around here. And can go down to the low $2s.

A gallon is roughly 4.5 litres, so if anyone was daft enough to try to buy 4.5 L of milk at once here, it might cost the equivalent of $5. At Mary's price, I'd be paying maybe 60p for 2 litres, which is bizarre.

If you look in a supermarket here, gallon (closer to 4 liters than 4.5) is the most common container it sells in. Followed by 1/2 gallon.

Thing is, in many countries most of the retail price of gas is tax. Which is a lot lower in the US.

Ah well, yes. The US gallon is 700 ml smaller than the Imperial gallon because, why not?

Texas: I bought milk at the farm for $8/gallon (fancy pants milk). I bought gas by the refinery for $2.19/gallon

In California those prices are double but the fancy pants milk is much higher quality (also sold in smaller batches.

OTOH can be an initialism for either On The One Hand or On The Other Hand; however, it is used exclusively for the latter.
The random thought has just come to my mind that if you're playing as the Byzantines in any strategy game it could be ‘Oh, the Ottomans! Help!’.

Edit: yes, my mind is indeed weird.

Gas is $1.20 per litre here right now, and a four litre jug of ordinary milk costs about $5.49 (as of yesterday). When you think about that, it's just wrong. I could see if it was the real premium stuff, but it's just ordinary milk. At least we're not in the far north, where 4 litres of milk can run you $25 or more, but still...

I dunno a cow had to squirt it after eating a lot of grass/grain. I guess I'm more amazed how cheap it is.

I thought this was because of (electrolytes in) my water as opposed to over-steeped tea. Steeping tea for a shorter time might ameliorate this, but using deionized water would eliminate it, regardless of steep-time, according to my understanding.
Drinking de-ionized water is usually ill-advised. It can make you very sick.

Milk is less than $2 a gallon in my part of Michigan...
That's what's it's going for in LA/OC as well.

I am daft enough to buy that much milk every single week.

Even the fanciest organic milks do not cost $16/gallon in SoCal. I can't say for sure about the Bay Area

Organic is base level. They sell this in Southern California, but you might have to search:

I found shelf-stabilized, canned organic milk for $21 for about .61 gallons so I guess you're right.

Whoa wait what is that? Like never refrigerated?

Yes. Never seen anything like it. All the other organic brands were $5-8 per gallon but I filtered by price and that was on top. It comes in 6 packs of small cans. I could not find raw milk but I only looked at Sprouts.

I love Horizon organic milk and while it's not crazy expensive, I don't like it enough to choose it over $2 milk.

Not sure what the Thing is with 'organic milk', I've been drinking 2+ gallons of store brand 2% a week for as long as I can remember and I'm just fine.

*looks over shoulder, I'm telling them mother I'm telling them!*

It would be in the pastuerized milk too...just cooked. I can't eat raw milk either though.
