Red Diamond Threads

Red Diamond threads are substantially different from regular threads. They NEED to be clearly distinguished. Serial threads are just long-lived. They're not special. There's no need to dress them up and pretend that they are special.

Agree...

...also, special icons for everything will get annoying...

I has serial identification :)

This coincides precisely with what I was going to say. When looking for serial threads, I just look for roman numerals, or else for the inordinately large thread titles.

Good idea Lucy. Thanks.

Okay so, if this is not the place to discuss what is and what isn't RD, or how you guys handle it, I apologize and I'd rather not get another infraction.

That said. I pointed out in the "Kill Romney" thread the OP disregarded his own source, the article his thread was based on. The title was very misleading and clearly served to inflame passions.

Being the decent OT citizen that I've been, I reported this to the mods. When no action was taken I again pointed out that the thread was not meeting RD standards. For that, I received an infraction, and then the OP closed the thread.

So, what exactly is a Red Diamond thread and when a normal user sees it is being abused and notifies the mods but no action occurs in X time (apparently there was, but I was AFK in my reply and thus didn't see the mod post)

Because I feel I got an infraction for trying to help the RD thread. be RD.

Is this post about RD standards or is it about your infraction? Because we can talk about one but not the other. ;)

If it's about an infraction, you have to discuss it with the moderator that infracted you or a supermod/admin. Otherwise it's infractable.

^Normally that's true, but we have seen public discussion of an infractible post before - by a moderator, in this very thread.

I think it's worth a moderator's time and effort to give a general answer to a general question: Why should people even attempt to be good forum citizens and point out rules violations when the result is that the good forum citizen is punished as well as/instead of the perpetrator?

Phrasing what a poster thinks happened to them in generalities is still PDMA. Take this to PM. This thread is not for the airing of grievances, it is for discussion of RD standards.

Okay.

So, I assume that an RD Standard is that the OP Accurately Titled their Thread. Why was there no corrective action on the titled of the thread in question after it was pointed by by several posters that the supporting article's title to the OP was being misrepresented.

Abuse of the RD status should not be tolerated. I saw no action taken on this misuse.

No corrective actions means the mods disagree with the hypothetical "good forum citizen." A hypothetical warning in the thread to hypothetically stop talking about it and carry on with the thread should put the hypothetical good forum citizen on notice that their hypothetical report was, hypothetically, read and it was decided that no action would be hypothetically taken. Capiche?

While it is correct that JerichoHill needs to discuss his own specific infraction with the mod who issued it or appeal it if necessary, you are using MY words in an unacceptably rude way.

MY reply was NOT meant to be about one specific infraction only; we both know there are other incidents where people have been infracted for reporting violations or asking why no action was (apparently) taken.

I asked a general question that deserves an answer. Your putting my words good forum citizen in quotation marks and the general tone of your posts indicates sarcasm and a snide tone that is not appreciated, and is rather unprofessional for a moderator.

The best way to handle this would be to generalize the question and post it here.

"Should the title of RD threads accurately portray the expected discussion or can titles be used to attract posters by being "intriguingly deceptive?"

I am sorry I am late to this discussion.

I went back and read through the staff discussion on this. The feeling was that the "kill Romney" phrase was not just made up to sensationalize the thread, but was part of the quoted article and therefor acceptable as part of the title. Since that thread is now closed, it is water under the bridge. I certainly appreciate all efforts to keep RD thread true to their purpose.

My suggestion is that posters try not to over sell with flashy titles and if you think that is being done, please report them.

I was pleasantly surprised when I realised that I had inadvertantly made a number of posts in several RD threads without really being aware that they were RD threads, in terms of increased moderation. At the start of this experiment, the extra moderation was conspicuous and frankly a little overbearing. But now I think people have started self-regulating a lot better, meaning that extra moderation isn't really necessary. I think the RD designation now works correctly as a good filter.

Agreed. Even the non-RD Israel threads have been rather civil (when compared against other Israel threads).
