Yes. USA #1. England is now entirely irrelevant culturally, economically, financially, militarily, socially, culinarily, aesthetically, philosophically, and historically. The major innovations of the language has occurred in the United States, and without the US, English would just be yet another regional language spoken in England and its former colonies which it formerly oppressed.

The American Language should be made the official language of the world and the standardized form of the language adapting to the dynamic nature of the American language to make the American form free from English prescriptivist oppression.

Country ('English' Speakers)
United States (251,388,301)
Indian (90,000,000)
Nigerian (79,000,000)
United Kingdom (59,600,000)

Looks like it'd make a bit more sense to name the language Indian or Nigerian before naming it after anything on the British Isles. :D

EDIT

USA #1

English makes people think of that decadent backward monarchy and the bad old days of imperialism.

Yes it should be renamed American because everyone will think of American power, glory, prosperity, peace, freedom, and democracy. We have ushered in peace and security worldwide while all England has done is exploit and oppress.

USA #1

Voted no but was really hoping for an answer option as inane as the question.

I think it should be renamed into New Zelandish. Both Britain and USA stained the language with inhuman imperialistic actions which shook the humanity. If we rename English to New Zelandish, then English (New Zelandish) will be treated as decent language again, not like the tool of bourgeois imperialists!

No, because it's still historically english.

I voted no. We get blamed for enough already.

The New Zealander population is made up mostly of sheep and their country is insignificant tucked away in some random corner of the world.

America is has the most speakers, is the greatest, most powerful, most democratic, most freedom loving, most peaceful, most influential, richest, most glorious, superior nation in the world. I see no other option. It must be named American.

Kind of defeats your purpose of becomming the guard of the language...

Results 1 - 10 of about 28,900,000 for "is has the".

Let's also remember that British misspell 'honour' and 'valour' and 'sympathise,' in direct blasphemy of their traditional Latin and Greek forms.

..And don't even get me started on 'gaol,' seriously WTH is that even supposed to spell.

I don't know what they speak over in England but it sure isn't English. Its barely possible to understand them! The Aussies are even worse. What little I can understand of what they say is often "m8" which at first was some sort of nazi code until the true horrifying meaning was explained to me. I just don't like the implications of that at all.

So yes I see the point of this thread, that only Americans know how to speak real English and since that's the case, why not rename it?

Good call TheAlamo! Ahh, a Texan! Little wonder it was such a great idea.

Outside of America, most English speakers are English English speakers, not American English speakers.

Besides, American already is a language of its own, although the connotations that go with it aren't all that good (speaking American is not seen as a positive attribute).

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. American English is now the standard. For example, schools in South Korea express a preference for American and Canadian (Canuck English is basically just American English) speakers over any other English speakers.

True, I don't know what I'm talking about, but I was referring to those for whom English is a first language, rather than ESL people.

But renaming English to American makes as much sense as renaming Latin to Vatican, or Portuguese to Brazilian, or Spanish to Mexican, or Arabic to Egyptian.
