Should the US be a Dictatorship?

I think he resonates for reasons. I do not think those reasons are good, at least a fair amount of the time. The other part of the time is people getting tricked by an easy explanation, or similar scapegoat. A lot of folks are just trying to survive. It's easy to get pointed at the wrong targets when you're living under such pressure. But a good fair few are actively in the "encouragement" zone when it comes to what he's doing, so.

The system itself is broken too, of course, but "his opponents" in these recent cases are minorities, the health services, and social programs. I think saying "both" in this case is really pushing the limits of what can be observed beyond their limits.
You phrased it less directly than Lex, so I wanted a less direct answer, but the movie seems apropos. It even has a fat nazi.

I think it's closer to this, honestly. I think the "soul of America" that Biden talked about is evil and we're basically a country of 330 million fat Nazis (and some, I assume, are good people).
Well, at least this isn't the claim that merely the institutions are rooted in "slaver culture", and you're now directly attacking the people.

I dunno what road map you're offering. Let's presume you believe this, and that it's true. How do events proceed from there?

My preference, reconciliation via local delegation, to allow an avenue of influence and expression for socially traditional views, has been rejected as beyond tolerance.

Of course, in such a circumstance, neither side morally tolerable to the other, a force is gonna arise that can actually govern in such circumstances.

...do ya wanna race to dictatorship? Seems profoundly unwise.

Can a federal judge put a temporary restraining order on this executive order like the birthright citizenship executive order?

Guess we'll find out. :twitch:

Phew, a Biden federal judge halted it 6 days until Monday right before the 5pm deadline today.

Impoundment is most certainly not unconstitutional, but it does violate The Impoundment Control Act of 1974.
I must beg to differ. The spending clause gives only the congress the power to allocate funding and directs the executive to spend it.

The Act clarifies this but certainly does give president the power to at least ask the congress if he can withhold funding. Therein called a "special message"

Now with that being said, although I think it's dumb for Trump to basically withhold money unless people play ball with him...technically he'd be just as guilty if he spent all funds except one dollar in order to save money. Which is just as dumb. Reducing spending is not some similar degree of crime as exceeding it, even though both would defy the congress.
What to do? I don't know, maybe introduce a line-item veto power, to overrule some funding but not others.
I imagine folks would call this "impoundment" by another name, but so too would the already-established veto power be; it's now "all or nothing" and more calamitous than it'd otherwise be.

So, HIV prevention is a war crime now?

Thanks for confirming you didn't read the article. Maybe spend less time trying to come up with witty insults, and more time reading and learning about the world.

Did you? You seriously conflate condoms with 2 ton bombs?
Also, keep in mind Israel has gone off the deep end.

The USA turning into a dictatorship would be very saddening, considering America was founded to not be a dicatorship.

Basically, the US keeps cutting off parts of its own body to own the libs, and at some point China picks up the pieces.

JD Vance apparently loves Curtis Yarvin. Yarvin's RAGE plan (retire all government employees) is his path to replace the US government with a dictator. Truimp's retirement plan is exactly what Yarvin is advocating.

"One particularly extreme New Right thinker is the blogger Curtis Yarvin, whom I profiled in 2022. Yarvin has argued that a new right-wing president should “Retire All Government Employees” — fire them all — and rebuild the government anew. (He also supports toppling American democracy and replacing it with a monarchy.) Vance cited Yarvin approvingly during that podcast appearance in which he discussed how Trump should fire “every civil servant.” He said: “There’s this guy, Curtis Yarvin, who has written about some of these things.”

It sounds very much like deebaathification, just sacking the entire civil service and replacing them with 22 year old republican college students or whatever

Unresolved internal conflict leading to collapse is probably more likely with China than it is with us, tbh.

Apparently Vance is all about eliminating the federal government as we know it and rebuilding it under a Government CEO which to him = dictator. In addition, Vance is bought and paid for by Peter Thiel.

oh god no please are you kidding me

edit: there was no need for me to snip here; my post is not a correction, but rather... let's just say that wilding things haven't stopped wilding'ing.

Nope Vance is a big fan and has quoted him as one of his guiding lights.

I think US is in a geographically strategic position to not be a dictator. Having only Canada and Mexico around, US is a new country, but it has potential, and it doesn't have a history that's that long to be able to sustain attacks from other nations that can ally up against it. For example, the attack on world trade was so unexpected.

I'm not really cheering it on, but I can see the writing on the wall. The only globally significant achievements of the American state this century are killing a really staggering number of people through military and other violence, making a handful of very rich people much more rich (in the process unleashing men like Elon Musk on the world), and making the USA the country with the most incarcerated people per capita.
