Should you need to be pass a credit check in order to vote?

Apparently Iowa thinks so!

AP said:
On the day he took office, Branstad signed an order reversing a six-year policy started under Democrat Tom Vilsack in which felons automatically regained their voting rights once they were discharged from state supervision. The move flew in the face of a nationwide trend to make voting easier for felons, making Iowa one of four states where felons must apply to the governor to have voting rights restored. Branstad’s new process requires applicants to submit a credit report, a provision critics call inappropriate and unique among states.

Since then, 8,000 felons in Iowa have finished their prison sentences or been released from community supervision, but less than a dozen have successfully navigated the process of applying to get their citizenship rights back, according to public records obtained by the AP

That's from the AP. I read the story here: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal-a/2012_06/pay_those_bills_on_time_or_for038176.php

This is part of the Republican plan to restrict voting all over the country, but lets look at this on it's merits. Do you think having a certain credit score should be required in order to vote? Should this be true of everybody, or only a certain class (i.e ex-felons, or I don't know....black people)? Why or why not?

Poll coming

Generally, you shouldn't need to pass a credit check for any purpose other than obtaining credit.

Specifically, absolutely not, given that credit scores are just numbers made up by private, for-profit companies.

Felons should be allowed to vote in any case. If there are enough felons to influence an election, the government is declaring too many people to be felons.

So let me get this straight. According to this idiot, in order to be able to vote, you have to get a good credit score?

So that makes me ask: what about someone like, oh say, me, who refuses to use credit cards? No voting for an ex-felon who doesn't like the idea of being in debt to a private company?

What kind of nonsense is this?

Ah, Republicans. You're the WHOLE reason I'm not one.

It doesn't go far enough.

You should also have an IQ of 130 or higher, be able to run 100 metres in under 12 seconds, and know how to properly milk a goat.

Also know that Carthage was a participant in the Punic War, apparently.

I think you should only be allowed to vote if you have a certain opinion. You know, so we make sure that everyone votes the right way.

Welp, I'm never going to commit a crime in Iowa.

Stupid governor, ruining ALL the fun to be had in college!

I voted politicians should have a certain credit score half as a joke half serious. If it actually prevented corruption I would say go for it but unfortunately it isn't money but power that corrupts.

We should instead pass a law that says that if you go to vote, and they don't let you, you are legally required to shoot them dead on the spot.

In case Iowa hasn't noticed, America is a democracy. We The People.

Deal but if we let you vote and find out you submitted fraudulent information and the the correct information would prevent you from voting then we shoot you dead. And flag your information to prevent you from voting democrat from the grave.

Its an idiotic idea. Ment to disenfranchise the poor and those who have bad credit.

Its the antithesis of the ideas of democracy.

We aren't in a democracy!!!

Oh my god, what a horrible idea.

That would just encourage voting Republican from the grave.

I'm sure it's happened a time or 2 over the years. But most voting fraud in the US in the past decade r 2 has been voting suppression.
