Single Player bugs and crashes - After the 24th of February 2014

I think I've seen it reported somewhere already, but in my game with Divine Prophets on, an AI was the first to discover Druidism, but did not use the GP to found the religion.

I know that the AI was first because I got a message saying a Great Prophet was born somewhere, and when I discovered Druidism I did not receive a GP.

If the AI does Not have the Civic to allow State religion then it will Not found the Religion until it gets the Civic. Same for human player. And one of the drawbacks to the Religion Civic group impo.

What do you mean by "same for human player"? I was able to found Shamanism before getting Mysticism (which allows state religion)...

Also, I remember the AI founding Druidism rather early in previous games with Divine Prophets, when I doubt it had Mysticism.

Unless DP has been changed significantly recently (last 2 versions) you can not found a Religion until you have either the 2nd or is it 3rd Religion Civic.

Also the AI has a choice on where and when to use it's GP depending upon it's current "needs". It is not restricted to using the GP solely for founding the religion it just researched.

No Joe. It is you can't have a state religion. Not can't found a religion. :D You can always found a religion with a Great Prophet if playing Divine Prophets, have the tech and no one else has done so.

However the AI will not found a religion unless it is it's favorite. Which is why we need a second or third favorite religion as not having any religion can hamper the AI.

So your saying that we need more tags like the trait ones??

The Ressource Almond is missing some files.
Code:
RESMGR: Failed loading file Art/Terrain/Resources/Almond/Banana_Master_Improved_Worked.kf. Reason: (code:1) Cannot open file.
RESMGR: Failed loading file Art/Terrain/Resources/Almond/Banana_Master_Improved_Not_Worked.kf. Reason: (code:1) Cannot open file.
RESMGR: Failed loading file Art/Terrain/Resources/Almond/Banana_Master_Normal_Not_Improved.kf. Reason: (code:1) Cannot open file.

It has taken me awhile to find even one of these as they were not in the mod I got it from. Nor can I find the original. the only one I can find is banana_master_improved_worked.kf in the original Civ IV files.

Why not make founding (any) religion the #1 use of a GP for the AI, and only check if it's a favorite when the AI already has a religion and has to decide whether it should found another one? With all the benefits you get from having a state religion, the AI shouldn't pass on that...

This is not a bug. The AI decided to hold on to the prophet as they do not greatly value Druidisim apparently. I'll explain more in a moment.

Incorrect. DH is right - you can FOUND the religion but that doesn't mean you can adopt it necessarily until the civics have been upgraded.

Not entirely true on that last part. It depends on some more features.
1) If the favorite is too far off on the tech tree it won't worry about it yet. It's only when the favorite is within this or the next era that it'll hold onto the prophet.
2) If the favorite is gone or the favorite is too far off (pt 1) then it'll select its next favorite.
3) It does have second, third, fourth and so on favorites provided the leader does have appropriate flavor settings. What that will be is based on a Flavor comparison with the religions in the game. It's only when the leader has NO interest in the flavors that religion offers that it will be completely ignored even if 1 and 2 are true. So perhaps the leader just doesn't think there's much benefit to Druidism at all - can't blame him for that really given that its Shrine building doesn't produce any gold.

The AI can sometimes throw off other AI and Human players by making this 'confusing' move to hold on to the prophet. They make it difficult for that religion to be taken by another civilization for a while and when the next civ can it might just be getting that civ to select the one it would prefer to overlook, leaving the one it really wants still available if it did happen to fall behind (and since it will still have its prophet most likely it can use it as soon as it gets to that tech, even if it comes in second to get there.) Another benefit for the AI in this is that as soon as it gets a religion it wants, it has a prophet on hand to immediately build the religion's shrine.

Holding on to the prophet may not be the big waste it might seem like to the player who wants to collect all religions he can.

Why not make founding (any) religion the #1 use of a GP for the AI, and only check if it's a favorite when the AI already has a religion and has to decide whether it should found another one? With all the benefits you get from having a state religion, the AI shouldn't pass on that...
It's noteworthy that getting the religion you want can count more than getting ANY religion by far. And having a shrine to go with it as soon as you get there is icing on the cake.

I fixed this issue in R2R by copying the .kf files of the same names from the date palm resource. I'm not sure where it is now, but at the time R2R split off the datapalm folder was in the LST.fpk file.

So perhaps the leader just doesn't think there's much benefit to Druidism at all - can't blame him for that really given that its Shrine building doesn't produce any gold.

In any case as a player I'd go for Druidism, not for the shrine or intrinsic Druidism bonus, but for all the state religion bonus it'd give (bonus production, happiness, etc.). The other religions are so far away in the tech tree (except shamanism and maybe tengriism which aren't that great either - normal for early religions) that by the time I reach them, I'll have received other great prophets and my initial great prophet would have been more useful this way.

I think maybe a letting up on when to be allowed to have a state religion might be in order?
Blocking it by civic choice, and needing to unlock the ability down the tech road, has always seemed unrealistic to me.

Cheers

Me Egypt - they are still red with the latest SVN.

Babylonians.

@ Sparth

The only difference i can see that is wrong is that some are missing the folder anim effects. But is doesnt explain the Babylonians, they should revert to default stone thrower?? That one doesnt make any sense at all:confused::crazyeye:
