Excess spaces?

that was just an example, some of my cities have over 15 Police Mechs in them, but anyways, ok ..

Oh I found out why some of your Civic screens are longer. It's some of the changes I made to different modifiers. Big example is Gov't civic Theology used to have 5 or 6 lines for the different religions and their Gold or Culture bonus. There are more lines as they all do not give the same % of bonus as before.

If you've got intense problems with lots of local criminals (it does limit itself to up to 10 at most at a time) then you'll need a lot of LE units to overcome the crime they're spreading and the crime that high crime is also supporting worsening. Once crime gets away from you, it becomes a gravitational force that perpetuates itself and makes itself harder and harder to escape. You can always overcome it with enough brute anti-crime but once you do you'll have way more than you need to maintain lower crime.

Save Error
Failed to compress game data.

Latest SVN (9634)

All saves become 811KB.

Why do you have auto save set to save every turn? Put it back to the default 4 turns and do a manual save more often than once a session. You are creating a memory leak. Manual save every 10-20 turns. Later you can go into the single game saves and delete the extra saves. And how many Auto saves are in your auto save file? Should not be more than 10.

Also need more details about this game and a save game as well. And what SVN version was this game started with?

Hi.
It is at save every 4 turn, and max 10 autosaves. No problem with memory leaks due to autosaves before this. Game was started with 9634. I can upload a save from before and after when I get home from work later today. I used the same game options I have used the last 6 months (don't remember all of the now btw), which made me believe it is was not my game settings that made it happen. Game crashed an hour after I posted this (CTD). And the 811KB

Only thing I changed is that I increased animal spawn to 290 and reduced sea animals to 35.

EDIT: All savegames except the initial one is 811KB and unloadable. I will start the game from the initial save and see what happens.

Going over 100+ by almost 2x is Not a good idea. The processing load created by the spawns and the multitude of animals that will continue to spawn in areas that are still blacked out (unexploered) or visited but not actively in sight range (dulled) will swamp/overload the 32 bit engine Civ4 BtS uses.

Animals will start spawning by turn 3 to turn 10+ on the various Game speeds.

Strong suggestion: reduce your Animal spawn rate to 120 and see if this happens again. 290 is a game breaking setting.

I have had it at 200 and not had any problems. The density tag should stop spawns after awhile so it does not run away as much as you might think. I currently have it down a bit around 120.

I would bet that if you started a new game with it set at 290 you would experience performance issues and bad auto saves. There are limits and futar has found one.

I doubt it is due to animal spawns because of the density tag putting an upper limit on the number of units that spawn in any area. Unless someone has changed the spawn file and removed that tag that is.

Something definitely went wrong at BC12820 from the pic he shows. It's hard to say what. It's possible that it had to do with a memory failure and despite the density limits, that setting could have a lot of animals depending on some other factors (map size, gamespeed and more)

@futar,
If you still have Auto save 13260BC available could you upload it please?

Hi. Sorry I don't have it any longer. But I am playing the game from the initial now, and haven't encountered the same error yet. Am now at 17222BC.

Regarding animal spawning, I have had 200-300 on for more than a year with little problems, well only that turns may take a bit longer, This was the first time I got that compression error. I have not altered any spawn files.

Today I subdued a Sabretooth and I built the Myth - Sabretooth with it but I am unable to build the Big Cat Trainer. I think the Myth - Sabretooth should enable the Big Cat Trainer.
