Skyrim - The Elder Scrolls V

It is. Took me a while to notice too.
By the Nine Divines, that's the worst interfasce I've ever seen in a good.

Btw, I haven't finished the game , but I think I'm going to abandon my first char. Too many half-assed perk trees that I have just stopped developing.
I'll try an overspecialized Khajit thief. No magic perks outside Enchanting, in fact I plan to only ever cast Soul Trap and Transmute Metal.
Heavy on Sneaking, Archery Pickpocket and Speech. See how far it get's me.
I'll use the companion training exploit to kickstart my Archery skill.

Now if you excuse me, I have to design a shifty looking cat thing...

That sounds like my character. He's a simple-minded hunter/ranger Khajit who joined the Thieves Guild and lives around The Rift mostly. Specialized in archery (maxed out now), pickpocketing, sneak and alchemy. I didn't need anything special to get good archery levels.

He married Mjoll the Lioness, who is unaware of his good-willed criminal activities.

Would a sneaky bastard with two short swords be a viable character, or will I be forced to choose a longsword or dagger if I actually want to do any damage?

If so, would longsword and dagger a good idea?

The Assassin's Blade perk multiplies sneak attacks with daggers by 2.5, right? Not by 15, right?

Backstab - Sneak attacks with one-handed weapons now do six times damage.
Assassin's Blade (requires Backstab) - Sneak attacks with daggers now do a total of fifteen times normal damage.

Considering 2.5x is considerably less than 6x, I doubt it, unless it's a bug.

"Kill one person, and you can solve so many problems. Think of the possibilities"- girl at orphanage

Ahh so many nice touches in this game that make me smile. I like the humor in this game a lot. So this is what the little girl said after I killed the head mistress at the orphanage right in front of all the children. I feel I taught an important life lesson to these young tykes. My good deed for the day is done.

Technically, Assassin's Blade does multiply sneak attack damage with daggers by 2.5, but since one-handed weapon damage is multiplied by six with Backstab, you'll do a total of x15 damage instead.

I laughed even harder when

Spoiler :
one kid started clapping and laughing, telling me he wants to join the Dark Brotherhood when he grows up so he can help the world!

All the kids reaction was priceless, and the other chick who was the crazy old lady's assistant just running around scared to death was the cherry on top of the cake.

It's also funny that I never actually told anyone I was part or acting on the behalf of that organization, everyone just assumed it and started talking about it. :p

Some of the daggers are arguably long enough to be shortswords, but they still get classed as daggers.
With longsword/dagger, you're pretty much going to end up striking at the slightly slower speed of the longsword with both weapons. Daggers won't do quite as much damage per second in a stand up fight, but you'll sneak better with them, and a sneak attack with daggers is silent, so you won't alert nearby enemies like you would with other weapons. They also have a great sneak attack animation. You can also get some ludicrous sneak attack damage modifiers (x30! damage) for daggers later on that will take down almost anything.
I would suggest putting your best dagger in your offhand, and switching between another dagger for the mainhand in sneaky situations and a sword for open combat situations.

The way you phrase that makes me thing that there's no reason not to use a longsword in both hands while in regular combat, unless my best dagger is better than my second best sword for some reason (like finding a glass dagger on a shelf), or has a particularly nasty enchantment.

Yeah, not sure that there is, except for the major hassle of changing offhand weapons (it's a hassle, and you can't hotkey it) and the extra carry weight of two daggers + two swords. Plus yes, there are quite a few daggers around with some very nice enchantments, and in a pinch you can still do an offhand silent sneak attack. Oh and offhand daggers look cooler.

Anyone find a decent vendor with a lot of gold? I'm trying to up my alchemy, but these potions sell for so much, I can only sell a few at a time to a vendor before they are out of gold. I'd also like to get up to 100,000 gold for the achievement. I'm around 55,000 now.

I'm also having serious inventory weight problems. I stripped off all my gear and equipment, and I'm just going to take what I absolutely need. I'm tired of always being around 230 or 240 even after I sell my stuff.

Level up your stamina, sell redundant or obsolete gear, and get that weightless armor perk.

I had about 300 scrolls and 50 potions in Oblivion. Stockpiling them in a chest was a really smart move on my part.

Also could go for the Pickpocket perk that gives you an extra 100 weight, only takes 2 perk points to get it I think.

I ended up storing items I always thought I'd use, but never got around to using. Like the archmages robes, and a mask with 100% mana regen. I got my weight to around 160 now which isn't bad. I'm pretty much sticking with light armor. I thought about using robes, but I won't. I do have the light armor perk which reduces the weight of light armor.

I also discovered I hadn't finished the thieves guild after all. I finished the main questline, but I wasn't actually guild master. I guess you have to keep doing side jobs until you do 5 in the major cities and then get special jobs. The main reason I want to do this is to open up new vendors and I noticed the fence in the thieves guild (I forget her name) increased the gold she has. I'm closing in on 60,000 gold. Yay.

At one point the Khajit caravan in my game had over 100, 000 gold to spare. It may have been a bug, but you could perhaps fast travel to some of the cities and see if they're there and perhaps make a killing.

When it comes to sneaking, I gave up on it. :( My character must be a pretty heavy dude because people in rooms that aren't even close to me detect me right after I take a step while sneaking. I've gotten pretty used to just charge in and decapitating people with my scimitars.

How important is ranged combat prowess in fighting Dragons?
I feel like playing a two-handed/heavy-armor/smithing specialized guy... should I throw archery into the mix if I don't want to get burned/frozen to death from above?

You'll need a few potions to resist fire or cold probably, but you don't particularly need any archery unless you need to get their attention (once the dragons are down their hitbox is pretty big so you don't need to be directly against it to hit it).

just get a bow to enrage them into attacking you, they'll eventually land next to you and that's when you swing. it does take longer though.
