The second half of the day seemed to move rapidly, the buzz of the midday revelation creating a sort of giddy atmosphere throughout the Theatre, with even Perpentach himself seemingly smitten by it. The announcement of the evening fight came almost as a rude interruption, but the audience quickly caught itself and let speculation regarding the Ogre lie dormant for a while.
A solemn silence lowered itself over the arena as the Luridus took the stage first, his long, golden robe flowing behind him. He still supported himself to his long staff, but his attitude and face bore a determinated and tranquil devotion. He smiled, vaguely.
Next, the Lizardman took the stage. He wore a dark green tabard embroided with a black dragon and what appeared to be a small sack in front of it. The keensighted among the audience spotted a small bag tied to the belt of the lizardman, but most people paid more attention to the two spears strapped to his back. In his hand, he carried a sling, laden with a vicious-looking stone (yes, they do exist!).
As reality begun to change, a very uncomfortable jolt shook the very reality of the world. The narrator howled in pain as what sounded like a swearing parrot bit his finger. A curse was heard, and a red-plumed parrot descended from one of the arena spires and landed on the Pirate's shoulder. The arena materialized itself as the narrator continued, his voice muffled from sucking his bleeding finger...
The arena sand remained mystically indifferent, but the edge of the arena was lined with magnificent mirrors. The Sun shone on the arena with a hitherto unknown force. The Luridus begun a prayer to his god, Lugus, as the battle started. Lances of divine light struck the lizardman from the sky, and he growled in pain as he sat himself in motion to avoid the attacks, while sending several vicious-looking stones towards the Luridus. The divine attack stopped as the holy man took a particularly nasty hit to the head, and fell in the sand.
The Lizardman approached slowly, his instincts unsure of whether the Luridus still constituted a threat, but the audience could see that the wounds of the Luridus healed miraculously fast, and as he stood up again, the Lizardman took one of the spears from his back and begun his run towards the Luridus.
The Luridus, still with a certain calm, mumbled a new incantation as he gestured towards the charging lizardman. Flames sprouted from his hands and in a pillar towards the Lizardman.
Who continued unhindered. His skin deflected the flames and the heat only sharpened his instincts by warming his cold blood further. The Luridus realized his approach had been wrong as the Lizardman came within range and swung the spear several times at the fragile man. Luckily, the beast's attack were driven more by instinct than technique, and the minor wounds the Luridus sustained healed themselves rather quickly.
Then, the Luridus closed the range between them. His fatigue from the earlier fight was clear, but he moved with determination and that untroubled calm he possesed. He tried to grapple the Lizardman, but the smooth skin of the reptilian made it impossible to get proper hold of him. In the end, the Luridus had to resort to attempt to kick the Lizardman where it hurt the most.
The Lizardman took little notice of the unarmed attacks, being so much stronger physically than the Luridus. After a short fight, he caught hold of the holy man and broke his neck in a brutal show of force. The broken figure of the Luridus fell to the ground, and the Lizardman staggered to his knees.

Suddenly, the body of the Luridus lifted itself from the sand, bathed in a pillar of divine sunlight. As his soul left to join his master, his body exploded in a blaze of sunlight. The wounds of the Lizardman sprung up as he tried to cover his eyes, but he fell unconcious to the ground from the pain of the divine burns that the fight had left on his body. The arena officials hurried to get him medical attention as the pompous official took the stage to proclaim the results of the day's vote, where the only exciting detail was who would get the honor of fighting the marked and mad Ogre.
It is now night.
Marks, send me your choices for the evening combatants.
People with night abilities, send me PMs.
Shaman, you are now the new team leader for Phoenix Rising!
Betting is open for Ogre vs Dragonslayer. Place your bets in bold dark orange.
yah...279 to 1 in the DragonSlayer's favor is telling me to put 25 gold on the Ogre. While I do indeed hope that the stain on my team is erradicated the possible payout is worth the gamble.
So goodluck DragonSlayer! And I still have full confidence in your abilities! May your giant blade cut well and deep and slay this Ogre!
What giant blade ? I see no giant blade. Says the Dragonslayer with his hands behind his back...
Thank you all for the vote of confidence.
If you want to see my chances further increased, feel free to share your hard-earned gold. It will be repayed tenfold in the end and the marks are very likely going to put a heavy defence and give everything they have to their champion.
A similar boost to your champion will be needed.
I would. I really would...however I have next to nothing and what you need is cash, not pocket change and I'm afraid thats all that I possess which is why I will bet with these odds. Either way I win but though I cannot hope to help you, you have my envy in slaying this beast
The thought of spilling Mark blood, after having seen so many of their own fall in the Mark-chosen fight, obviously had most contestants giddy with excitement. Well, several at least. Seven bets were cast before midnight, which was something of a record since... well, a long way back, and especially so considering that the half-way mark in terms of survivors was close at hand. Most seemed to believe the Dragonslayer would be up for the job he had volonteered to do, and the odds were decidedly in his favor. Big ogre be not caring for odds though.
Current betting odds:Ogre vs Dragonslayer: 10.3:1
