Speculation: New patch and/or DLC on the 21st of november

This does make for interesting thought, and if we look at all the DLC civilizations thus far:

Africa - 0
Asia - 2 (Korea, Mongolia)
Americas - 1 (Inca)
Europe - 2 (Denmark, Spain)
Middle East - 1 (Babylon)
Oceania / Australia - 1 (Polynesia)

This shows an astounding lack in Africa, which is also repeated when the Vanilla civs are included

Africa - 1 (Songhai)
Asia - 6 (China, India, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Siam)
Americas - 3 (Aztec, Inca, Iroquois)
Europe - 9 (America1, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Rome, Russia, Spain)
Middle East - 5 (Arabia, Babylon, Egypt2, Ottomans, Persia)
Oceania / Australia - 1 (Polynesia)

1 - Included as part of Europe due to culture being more European and indeed began as a colonial settlement.
2 - Included as part of Middle East due to being more similar to Middle Eastern civilizations than the rest of Africa

If we look at this list, and eliminate Oceania / Australia due to the Civ 4 Native Americans style of the Polynesian civilization, we see that there is a massive ammount of Eurasian civs - a grand total of 15 / 25, a whopping 60%, of all current civilizations, compared to just 1 in Africa. This would surely indicate the next Civilization(s) to be released will be African.

There is a European civ-esque slant in favour of Domination victory as well -

Denmark, Mongolia, Japan, Aztec, China, Germany, Songhai are all typical dominations.

This would indicate a war-like civ would not be sought after as the next, and leads me to believe, along with the popularity of them in polls at the 2K forums, that the next civilizations would be peaceful African, such as Kongo or Zimbabwe.

So I agree that playstyle and region are typically the best way to determine future DLC, although past favourites also pop up occasionally (Spain, VikingsDenmark, Mongolia)

Great point.
This doesn't prove that the next civ will be African, but it does prove that this is what the game needs.

Carthage + Ethiopia + Zulus please. With 3 new, challenging scenarios and a new random map type. Price: $11.

Well, if I assume its a civ (still thinking DLL, though, admittedly, I don't know why they'd advertise that):
I'd guess it would be African, play in a unique way, and not be a "traditional" choice.
So, Kongo seems more likely, given those regards.
Of course, it could still be anything (even something nobody's thought of).

We also have to think what would make a good scenario. Ethiopia, Carthage and Zulu are all from different time frames, so you'd have trouble including them together. Kongo and Zimbabwe are from similar times, but Zimbabwe was barely involved in foreign relations, and for the most part was seen as a 'Seven Cities of Gold' type myth for Africa by the Europeans. I've done a lot of work with the Civilizations Wanted topics here and over at 2K and two of the most reccuring Double Civ and Scenario packs seem to be these:

Portugal and Kongo
Dutch and Zulu

Both had interaction, the former was very early on relatively, about early 16th century, while the other would feature a Southern Africa conquest scenario. Given that the last two DLC releases have both had at least one sole conquest (1066 and Korea) I think this one is unlikely. Again we have thought of the need for an economic civ - Zimbabwe, as has been mentioned at 2K, was a large power in control of most of the Ivory and Gold trades through Southern Africa for their duration.

I wasn't saying all 3 civs should be in one scenario, just that they should each be given their own scenario. The colonial Africa theme might work for DLC, but the controversy swirling around it might mean Firaxis backs down and just does Ethiopia + Zulus or something similar.

Silly English-speaking countries. Use the metric system like the rest of us. (:

Super simple: 1 km = 1000 m = 100000 cm = 1000000 mm
1 kg = 10 hg = 1000 g = 1000000 mg

Well, to put this fair, both of these cultures are silly.........I am from Singapore by the way.

How about Carthage + Celts civ for DLC alongside with Rise of Rome scenario?
The Zulus are featured in every civ series except Colonization, so we might expect that civ to show up in a future patches.

I'd quite like something like a Hungarian, Croatian or Polish Civ.

These countries were all established in their own right around the 9th century AD and feature a really interesting mix of Celtic, Roman and/or Slavic culture.

We only really have one Slavic Civ in Civ5 which is of course Russia, so it would be nice to add another Civ with an Eastern European feel.

Thoughts?

Well, the Mongols are already in, so that really slims down the chance for Hungary, I suppose.

But Poland-Lithuania might be interesting.

I hope the dutch empire is the next DLC... Its a small country but most people know it...

I olso hope they buf england I allways play england on every strategy game but in this game I pass them aren't good enough

TBH I was suprised the dutch where'nt in the initial release, especially with only having Harun as a focussed economic civ.
I can only hope they release a big civ pack with a possible expo because if they keep milking us for all the damn civ's that where in civ 4 I see no reason to keep supporting this company.

I mean good gods, let's say 60$ for the game on release, in it's bug ridden state, about 5$ per DLC, 7 civ's and the wonder DLC right?
That's +-100$ and over a year for the still crappy state that Vanilla is in right now.

I would say Darius is even more commerce-oriented with super long :c5goldenage: and the whole "forever golden" strategy.

I would love to see a double civ pack of another African nation, probably either Carthage or Zulu; and a Middle Eastern nation, either Sumeria or Israel.

Offtopic post:
I agree with you there. Maybe it's that, here in Europe we use dd/mm/yyyy. So it's logical depending on the notation.
(But what's simply not logical is when sometimes it's written by Amiercans as mm/dd/yyyy, though :) )

So, do y'all far'ners say 12th of May, 2011 or May 12th, 2011?

And what's up with the Germans (maybe others) use of quotation marks where the first quotation mark is down and the second is up ( " ).

What, there's not controversy with the New World? Why, the other day in the news, some Indian reservations have 80-90% alcoholicism rate, dysfunction, etc. Any controversy with Asians against Mongolians coming through making mountain of skulls with their ancestors, destroying everything and kidnapping specialists to take back home?

They just made the "Indians" some bad mammy jammies that almost kicked my booty playing Washington on Shiggs Earth with the Iri on one side and the Azzies on the other. They pop me like a pimple. there I was farming, mining, having a good old time and whole bunches of Indians jump out of the trees and kick my butt. The only way I survived was because I wanted to place a city on the panama canal area and they were ready to set sail. DC fell first. Then Monty took Boston after a good while (destroyed most of my workers though but two went west, set sail south and met up with the others by the mouth of the Amazon). Then they took New York. That was it for my north American prescence. I'm hundred of years behind. The Iri destroyed the Aztecs and is in the Modern era and I still effing around with crossbows. Thank the gods my ancestors swear by that nobody set their eyes on South America yet or I'd be a dead'un.

That's what I'm currently playing.
