Spl01 - Noobish Players Try the Concurrent Format

oh man! meanie... :(
Don't rush your work, or you won't have anymore work...  :goodjob: :joke:

I can wait anyway.

kill the significant other

Probably this was freudian. I usally think a few words ahead of what I'm typing. Though it might have been a typo. I type dvorak and in dvorak, the "L" and "S" keys are both right-hand, fourth finger. Just different rows.

I honestly meant to type "kiss", but "kill" is a lot funnier.

In an earlier thread something similar resulted in me typing "cook the baby" instead of "feed the baby". (Again, thinking many words ahead of typing.)

Yeah, I do that sort of thing sometimes, but it doesn't make hilarious results like that...

As we near 7:30, here's what the time schedule will look like, assuming 7:30 is when we get the save. Adjust times to when the save is actually posted.:

7:30 Thursday -- Spoiler Period Ends. Grace Period and Posting Period Begin.
Midnight Friday/Saturday -- Write-Ups MUST be posted, or turnset is voided. I'm giving an extra 4 1/2 hours, but hopefully, we won't use them. Also, during this time, we'll begin the discussion, so we can vote saturday, and start the next save saturday or sunday.

Save posted. Pants wet. Dog hungry. Spouse *sigh* alive.

It IS Prince. Happy hunting!

(True 30) 2800 BC: :coffee:

Here's our world so far:

spl01hattyfirstset9za.jpg

Could've been a better game, but oh well. Should mention we have to oases in that desert, but that doesn't make it worth settling...

Okay...here we go. Don't have time for much analysis right now as I'm on the way to bed, but...
Spoiler :
4000: Warr goes NE, settle in spot, GH=map; Worker=15t, Pottery=14
3840: Border pop; GH=50g? 80g?? I can't read my writing...
3640: GH=map

3400: Worker>Warrior
3160: Bear!
3080: Cottage done, start farm
3040: Warr>Barracks
2960: Thebes: pop2; switch to warrior
2880: defend against Bear; 1.7/2.0
2840: AH>??? picked whatever but we can still change it w/no loss...saved @end turn...

If needed, can give screens tomorrow, but I"m pretty sure they're all the same...oh..except on the lower part of the continent...western region has another river w/desert flood plains...city2 methinks...

I finished my turns after computer crashed (taking my write-up with it). Teach me not to have Photoshop, Civ, and a text editor all going at once.

(re)Write up turns 1-11 are done.

After reading your two write-ups, I realize I'm being a lot more detailed with tons of screenshots. (I took 39, don't know how many I'll use.)

You guys want me to scale back the detail level?

A preview of just how weird I can be. I'll calm down if y'all give the say-so.

Spoiler :

Turn 1
4000 BC

From the shadow of ignorance, We, Hatepshut J. Pharoh, do boldly arise and proclaim this to be the Dawn of Time. Soon thereafter, Our fellow-yet-lesser village dwellers humbly forget all that happened before the Dawn of Time so as not to make Us sound a fool.

The goodie hut formerly known as Egypt is now the civilization known as Egypt.

We inform the peanut gallery that they have the fortune of performing Our bidding for the next 6,000 years. Surprisingly, the din of their joyous shouts don't actually deafen the local fauna, as We had imagined it might.

We tell them that, should We set Our thrown atop the world, looking down upon all the lesser souls, the populous must belch forth a warrior for the offing of Egypt's enemies. One brave soul approches. His name is Bob.
bc-4000-01.jpg

bc-4000-02.jpg

. Bob has made Egypt a powerful nation indeed!

We teach the villagers the new-fangled art of city-building. No longer shall we all live in hovels. We name Our new "city" Thebes.
bc-4000-04.jpg

The gleam and wonder of Thebes has engulfed Our vastly inferior neighbors. They gleefully offer a map of local surroundings.
bc-4000-03.jpg

A closer look at Thebes reveals that We shall not need to behead our governor. We approve of his choice.
bc-4000-05.jpg

Our royal grace commands the city to bring forth a worker.
bc-4000-06.jpg

Those cows ain't gonna milk themselves, you know.

A studious decipher of Our new "map" reveals that the gods smile not upon Egypt.
bc-4000-07.jpg

The sages assure Us that the northern wilderness hides more savages and their "enlightenment" should yield more goodies.

We command Bob to bravely trek where no Egyptian has gone before. Goody hut ho!

Our sages believe that all the world is equally screwed.
bc-4000-08.jpg

Perhaps the gods aren't quite as bent upon Our destruction as We thought.

Turn 2
3960 BC

Our sages wish to experiment. Perhaps, they tell Us, cattle can be more than just decoration.
bc-3960-01.jpg

We dream of seven fat cows, seven lean cows, and an interpretation that can't possibly come until monotheism...

Turn 3
3920 BC

Bob, stalwart explorer that he is, bravely rounds a hill to reveal that we are isolated to the west.
bc-3920-01.jpg

Bob also spies fishes.
bc-3920-02.jpg

Alas, he sees nothing else near by to warrant a city near said fishes. Worse, unless We have Toku in this game, We'll have no sushi.

Turn 4
3880 BC

After agonizing deliberation, We have decided to press enter.

Preview part two

Spoiler :

Turn 5
3840 BC

Our glorious Egypt has enticed the surrounding wild into joining our cause. (Thebes cultural borders expand)
bc-3840-01.jpg

Bob finds more fish. Way to go, Bob.
bc-3840-02.jpg

Turn 6
3800 BC
<HOMER>Boring!</HOMER>

Turn 7
3760 BC

As promised, our brave and mighty Bob finds the den of savages in tact. He extorts a map from the cretins.
bc-3760-01.jpg

We see just how bleak our world is.
bc-3760-02.jpg

Is that an isthmus up north?

Turn 8
3720 BC

Argh! Lions!
bc-3720-01.jpg

<PYTHONS>Brave, brave Sir Bobin, brave Sir Bobin, brave Sir brave</PYTHONS> Tis better to have not fought at all than to have fought and lost. That isthmus to the north is Our salvation. Lions can't climb mountains!

D'Oh!
bc-3720-02.jpg

Turn 9
3680 BC

In the face of inescapable peril, We bravely order Bob to fortify his defense.
bc-3680-01.jpg

Turn 10
3640 BC

All hail Bob, champion of nature, defender of all that is Egypt!
bc-3640-01.jpg

Bob, the sniveling ingrate, has filed a workman's comp claim. Through endless tedium and paperwork, the county arbitrator has judged the cry baby to be suffering "possibly work-related maladies". Bob is granted a (paid) leave of absense for 40 years.

Turn 11
3600 BC

Bob is healthy. We order his lazy arse to the southeast tundra. Those beavers sure as hell ain't comin' to us.

Spoiler :

Turn 12
3560 BC

Must...press...enter

Turn 13
3520 BC

Hey, how's that Bob guy doin'?

Turn 14
3480 BC

Zzzz...Bob...don't pet the kitty cat...Zzzz

Turn 15
3440 BC

Bob reminds us why we still have him on payroll.

bc-3440-01.jpg

En masse, the good-for-nothing Thebians decide they've had enough of boring ole terra firma

bc-3440-02.jpg

We order forth a settler to...uh...settle new lands in Our righteous name.

Turn 16
3400 BC

Our workers, knowing not yet the way of the cow, build roads to sacred bovines

bc-3400-01.jpg

Saint Goodie the Hut rewards the faithful with 26 gold!

bc-3400-02.jpg

Oh glorious Bob finds lions guarding the sushi. Nothing to do but wait for the glorious reign of war!

bc-3400-03.jpg

Turn 17
3360 BC

Uh, lions? Over here?

bc-3360-01.jpg

We, the Great and Mighty Hetepshut, decide that a 1/2 XP Bob is just as useless as a 0/2 XP Bob. We order a fight unto death!

bc-3360-02.jpg

<TRUMPETS>Bob! Bob! Bob!</TRUMPETS>

Turn 18
3320 BC

Surprisingly, Animal Husbandry doesn't turn out quite the way it sounds...

bc-3320-01.jpg

We must learn the way of the fish if we're to ever taste of the bounty of the sea. Plus, Mr. Hatepshut has a thing for linguini with clams. It keeps him from bugging Us every night about "are we ever gonna have sex again? You're frigid. I should have married your sister instead."

bc-3320-02.jpg

The mysterious blue angel of battle lights upon Bob's brow. With little forest around, and an unlikely chance that We'll soon find neighbors worth sacking, We grant Bob a Combat I promotion.

bc-3320-03.jpg

Turn 19
3280 BC

With their grand avenue completed, Our workers get cracking husbanding their cattle

bc-3280-01.jpg

Turn 20
3240 BC

Ingrate Bob still healing

Spoiler :

Turn 21
3200 BC

Our Bob unit assures us that he is at full strength and might be ready to continue his journey.

Turn 22
3160 BC

Bob moves

Turn 23
3120 BC

And moves

Turn 24
3080 BC

Aaaawooooooooooo! More XP for Bob!

bc-3080-01.jpg

Turn 25
3040 BC

Bob pushes back the lupine tide. We graciously alot him time to recuperate, avoiding years of paperwork.

bc-3040-01.jpg

Turn 26
3000 BC

Clams ahoy, We're having fish for dinner!

bc-3000-01.jpg

Our sages tell us that learning to kill wide-eyed cute things will someday lead to formidable city defenders

bc-3000-02.jpg

Turn 27
2960 BC

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Turn 28
2920 BC

With the long-awaited settler nearing completion, We order Our (finally) healed Bob to the eventual site of Hetepshutville! (Or maybe Memphis, we'll see.)

bc-2920-01.jpg

Turn 29
2880 BC

Turn 30
2840 BC

Turn er 30.5?
2800 BC

The world available to Egypt:

bc-2800-01.jpg

Our sages inform Us that DotMap the Benevolent has suggestion possible settlements for Egypt's glory.

Bob also assures all Egypt that, indeed, there be crabs just south of the mysterious green dot.

As this era comes to a close, We decide upon one last daring maneuver. The Gods have truly frowned upon Egypt in this universe. Se Egypt shall frown upon their so called offering!

bc-2800-02.jpg

Summary:

Spoiler :

WTH? No religion, no wonders? That scares me. Either everyone's in worse shape than we are, or we have Monte, Kahn, Alex, Toku, Caesar, and the Klingons for neighbors.

I don't like the isolation either.

The dot map at the end isn't to suggest that we actually settle those sites. I'm thinking east might be our salvation.

Either way, this start is about the worst I've ever had. Sure Thebes/Pantload will be a great city, but unless we're in OCC, that ain't gonna cut it.

edit to add spoiler tags. Sorry, forgot.

well, since we all, for the most part, are seeing the same screens, I thought they were of less importance than a normal SG or SP report ~ personally, i have no preference one way or the other...

Spoiler :

Also, I'm three turns away from hunting, with AH and fishing under my belt. Bob is 4/5 and healthy. The settler is about to pop and Bob is in position, waiting for him.

I usually don't build warriors as I'll have archery before barbs turn into people. Not so sure about this start, though. Maybe a warrior in Pantload/Thebes before the workboat?

Lastly, I'm sorry about the extra turn. I had it in my mind to stop at 2800 BC, not realizing that I needed to not play 2800 BC.

Dotmap Discussion:

Spoiler :
Rex, I like you're pink and blue dots. (Sorry I didn't make a dotmap yet, I will soon.) The green's ok too. Also, study up on that mountain ithmus land, I got the best map from it. Pholk's green dot looks ok, I think that'll be good, but I'm gonna post a dotmap soon.
