State of the Union

Actually the thought that over 30% of Americans think so too, is what really scares me.

I still contend that she should be above that. But will admit that I didn't have to listen for all 3 hours.
I probably would have not been able to keep a straight face for half of it.

I get disgusted enough listening to our own right-wing politicians who are Trump admirers and science-deniers. I really didn't want to listen to the real thing.

He was still blathering away when it was time for Jeopardy! to be on, so I switched over to watch Star Trek (umpteenth time for that episode of TNG, but still more palatable).

At least Jeopardy! was on later.

Based on the lack of viewing by members here, it should be fun listening to Trump lie about about rating numbers when they come out.
"most watched SOTU ever"

This isn't a good representation, though, since some of us aren't American and wouldn't have much reason to watch it in the first place.

Watching this buffoon lie doesn't even make for a good drinking game. If you set out to drink when he tells a whopper that has already been debunked you can't possibly keep up, and if you just go on regular lies you'd be dead of alcohol poisoning long before the end.

......., and if you just go on regular lies you'd be dead of alcohol poisoning long before the end.
Or you end up killing every last brain cell and all of a sudden the speech makes sense....

my wife refused to watch that travesty.
...
How about Nancy ripping up the speech as he finished.
Now as much as I despise trump and thought the speech was a farce, I think her action was a bit overboard and a little childish.
What about you.
...
How about that pasty white Dem rebuttal?
:agree:
I really wanted to watch the State of the Union address and the Dem. rebuttal. Both were unwatchable. :vomit:
Does any politician in the US know how to make a speech? :shake:

to listen for all 3 hours

3 hours...

Would 20 minutes not be enough ?

You guys over there really like showbizz :p

:badcomp: Blamr TV. Before it became ubiquitous, Presidents just submitted written reports. :coffee:

That's basically still the way we do it here in NL

The speech is high level and to give a flavour of the main focus (and main changes to existing strategy)
The written report is roughly 50-100 pages with a lot of graphs, and then a handfull of appendixes with tables and graphs. And public ofc.

That's why I should be president. My State of the Union address would be one very short sentence. Something like "Can't complain" or "Meh, could be better."

Well, I think you should have a longer speech that (a) acknowledges people's pain and (b) proposes a 3 point solution to those problems involving 'the best people'.

FUN FACT: linking President Comacho's speech from Idiocracy violates CFC censoring rules

So Trump's not removed from office, and - what a surprise - the impeachment was another stupid sideshow. Oh well, at least it prevented Bern from campaigning in Iowa.

A strategy and an operational plan are different animals.
Setting a direction and making resources availables, including amount of money etc in your written report, is more than enough detail for such a speech
And that "the best people" are involved is superfluous: You always row with the oars you have and keeping those oars in good order is normal governance.

It did? You think there weren't Sanders commercials running round the clock on every station in Iowa? Think again my friend, think again.

I was summarizing Comacho's speech, but making it prettier.

Our current three body problem: Trump, Barr, McConnell.
