Sullla's AI Survivor Season Eight - Playoff Game 3 Thread

Damn, I thought he'd be running AH for the Championship game.

There's an idea... publish the AH's before the live game. See if it influences the picks made, or shows the live game to be a total outlier

Sullla has a long video out now for this game's Alternate Histories where he is actually running through the games live in auto-play. It's pretty cool. I am watching the first game and Churchill basically went across the map and wiped out Mehmed with mainly horse archers. SB ate much of Greece, who attacked Vicky first. Now a little over halfway Church is attacking the rest of Greece. Church is very aggressive. Church and Bull leading big.

the game goes by pretty fast in auto-play...not sure if he will play all 20 games live but the video is close to 3 hours long.

1st Game: Churchill won by Space on turn 337 with over a 2500 point lead on SB. Vicky survived. Church could have one easily by Dom earlier but got Please locked on Vicky after Free Religion. SB dow'd Church hill very close to launch. Mehmed and Peri were quickly dispatched early, and Qin soon after. Bull did admirably well tech wise but Church just had way more land. (That game took about 25 minutes but Sullla is going to disable the save turn option which will speed things up some...still don't see how he gets through all 20 though here)

Casually watched 3 games so far. Church did very well in the first two and won both by Space. In both SB and Vicky were the only survivors. In Game 3, Church had a slower start for some reason and Mehmed went nuts, winning Domination by turn 252, only needing to wipe out Qin and SB, and most of Church, although Church survived barely. Vicky and Peri just went back and forth with wars against each other that amounted to nothing.

The general trend I see is Vicky getting rather boxed in early and Peri attacking her early. In fact, Peri seems to be the first AI to attack anybody with basically no impact at all other than nerfing his game. Peri has been playing rather idiotically, but I think there is something to be said for both his and Vicky's positions on the map and the fact that SB and Church outexpand both.

Late, to my chagrin, but here are the more detailed results thus far.

So far seems I had correctly predicted Pericles being in high peril, especially through conflict with Viccy.
But I had Churchill and SB reversed apparently: I thought both would be strong, but that SB would be the most likely to turn that into a win.
Still only 5 games, but I thought Viccy would be able to have some good games, which hasn't really happened so far.

Game 4 is really interesting. Peri expanded much better than usual. SB got 3v1'd with Peri taking most of his land and being in the top spot early right down the center. Mehmed expansion was slowed due to 2 barb cities popping up south of them (the randomness of barb cities spawn each game seems to have a fairly significant impact - tending to impact Peri and/or Vicky mostly until this game). Churchhill meanwhile quickly dispatched Vicky. So mid-game we had Peri/Church at 1-2, with four AIs all in a different religion. A lotta of wars. Peri's position is troublesome as everyone hates him and although the biggest now he is surrounded. Still going...

update: This game is the nuttiest ever. So Mehmed eventually got wiped by Peri/Qin double team. The 1-2-3 positions were changing often. Qin not getting the lead yet but now in second on turn 381!!!! So 3 remaining leaders in Peri, Church and Qin are all about even in tech and score. War has been almost constant the whole game. Still going. Looking like at least a 425 turn game or more

update: Oh no! The game died on turn 402 due to "You have been defeated". It appears to be due to Sullla accidentally dropping a lion in on the game which would have been the observer civs. So no outcome in a game that likely would have gone to around turn 440!

We need Sullla to come over and read these forums more often, as I had posted recently the way to avoid that (works for me at least).

Game 4 - attempt #2

Church quickly dispatches Vicky with ease to hit #1 but Peri, who has not attacked anyone yet, ends up culture-flipping 2 or 3 of Vicky's old cities from Church and now is #1. I think Church just attacked him though. Meanwhile, Bull is at war with Qin and appears to be winning that one.

Turn 238 - Peri and Church have been at war for about 100 years. Church seemed like he had a strong advantage but really has failed to make much of a dent into Greece while Peri caught up somewhat in military techs. Church still has a bit of advantage in that regard but it has been just a battle of attrition for a century. SB and Qin are back at war again..not too much has changed with them. Mehmed has been surprisingly quite much of the game. Peri is #1 presently. At this point, this game looks a lot like the previous one except Mehmed is still alive and doing nothing.

Turn 326 (another loooong game) - SB has taking out Qin and is in the process of doing same to Mehmed. SB has taken over the #1 spot while Peri and Church still fighting going on 200 years now it seems. Another slow tech pace game. Peri appears to be turning the tide a little in the war but Church is always a tough nut to crack. One theme in recent games is the tendency for most AIs to adopt different religions so very little in the way of religious blocs, although none of these leaders tend to value reli all that much anyway. Still, diplomacy tends to be bad for everyone. SB in pole position right now and could very well turn his sights to Greece or Church after Mehmed. I'm expecting a Domination win here. (edit: Well, change that - SB appears to be going for culture at Plastics..ugh..very far away)

Turn 413 Culture Victory for SB! Peri and Church nerfed themselves immensely in what had to be the longest continuous war between two leaders I've ever witnessed. SB did have the most land, but still held over a 2000 point lead on second place Peri despite turning off the slider at Plastics 100 turns or more earlier. Peri and Church did eventually peace out with Peri cracking the nut a little bit. It is interesting that both versions of Game 4 had a lot of similarities.

Too bad Sullla had to toss that game where Qin was doing well It has happened to me several times before via the console command. Sometimes I would even put ruins on the island to ensure barbarians wouldn't settle there.

update: Oh no! The game died on turn 402 due to "You have been defeated". It appears to be due to Sullla accidentally dropping a lion in on the game which would have been the observer civs. So no outcome in a game that likely would have gone to around turn 440!

The issue was he turned off the auto saves completely. Churchill was winning that game. He switched back to each 10 turns. Faster game vs backed up saved game. I think Churchill will win a lot of these games. Double gold and no pressure expansion wise. Such a great start for him.
