The Drunk and After the Party thread and stuff.. 1

agree on most things. I'm not trying to demonize drugs, and I'm all for legalization, I just think pretending psychedelics are harmless is really stupid. I mean damn I've even felt the harm on myself a few times..
I don't think anyone is pretending they are harmless.

Anything powerful is gonna have some potential for harm. Exaggerating harm (thus increasing allure) and making drugs impossible to test for purity & making it a crime to admit use... now there's a recipe for disaster.

Back in the 70's when I was in college there was a free lab on campus where you could drop off a sample and they would give you a code number to reference when you called back a few days later and they would detail their analysis. This probably saved a lot of students. Which I guess was the intent.

i had a nice talk with a 70 yr old lady on the train and we actually went out to have a talk and drink some wine after and she told me about her life and her three husbands and her attempted suicide and about how shes only alive because of many cosmic coincidences and im sittin here feelin both moved and mighty ambivalent about that what means for my or anyones life so yeah it's always fun meeting new ppl right

My god. My friend played some tunes at a club near here and killed it so hard everyone lost their goddamn minds wow what a show.

hah I just deleted hella ****.

Ok so in the past year I have rebuilt my drinking tolerance but somehow tonight I really went for it, can't calculate how I got there but this is PHYSICALLY PAINFUL. Goddamn I guess I'll lose my Saturday. I saw infected mushroom tonight, finally, I was like, in the middle of the dance floor making it look amazing, don't recommend. Respect to them cashing in/out but naw. MEANWHILE. I did a big audit of facebook friends tonight. Dude. A lot of people quit. A lot of people not updated. A lot of people barely updated. Facebook is super dead. I'm sad, because it could be legit, but also, they quit on us so F. Em. The most important thing on facebook is events and they haven't even figured it out in 15 years. Still tho.

Infected Mushroom? That sounds amazing. Hope your Sunday is looking up.

Me too. But today was supposed to be a Thing. IT HURTS. I don't remember drinking out of pocket. But I must have.

Don't be too hard on your friends that quit facebook. It's not a personal slight against you and yours. It's a terrible website that has had a profoundly negative impact on our society that has come to overshadow the benefit for a lot of people. And given the security and privacy breaches, they may be quitting it out of self protection.

F em like, if they aren't contactable that's their prerogative.

I take it you don't ask for phone numbers or emails of your friends then? Sounds like it's your prerogative to choose one venue to contact your friends and then get pissy when they decide they don't like it.

Who's getting pissy

I haven't changed my phone number ever, I sat next to a high school friend recently, by coincidence, and called his number that I had from like 9 years ago; he answered :p

In 2019, opting out of Facebook is about two steps behind abandoning all your possession to live in a Siberian monastery. And I expect this dynamic is a large part of why people opt-out of Facebook in the first place.

My friend has too much pot chocolate bar in Colorado at sts9 concert, ended up in ER, shes fine now

Why would anyone go to an ER for pot? Like damn, I've definitely been out of my mind but you can sleep it off it's not dangerous. Did she get coerced into the ambu by other concert-goers?

It's actually becoming more common as cannabis has gone mainstream and edibles have exploded in popularity. There are a few factors that combine in these situations that make it dangerous -
  • Modern cannabis is much more potent than old cannabis.
  • Cannabis isn't always labeled correctly - the dosage for edibles in particular is all over the place.
  • Scientists just discovered that THC (and its cohorts) interact with chocolate in a weird way in the digestive system which causes it to become even more potent and changes the relative strengths of the various cannabis components, further altering the effects.
  • Edibles are not instantaneous so when people don't get immediately high, they eat a second or third dose.
  • People often experience very different highs from edibles relative to smoked cannabis, which can be unpleasant and unexpected.
  • Everyone wants to try it which means lots of first-timers getting in on the action without knowing what they're doing.
All of these factors come together which means a lot of people are overdosing (especially on edibles) and winding up in the ER. While not life threatening in the way heroin or alcohol overdoses are, a cannabis overdose can have really bad physical effects and especially adverse psychological effects. People have massive freakouts which need medical intervention, and this is compounded by the fact that they're either doing it alone or with other inexperienced users who don't know what to do so the only thing they can think of is to go to the ER.
