"The future will be better tomorrow."

I'll like to join. Here are my votes:
1. PBEM-Tracker - YES!
2. Either way for me is fine.
3. ... I'll go for any...
4. I´ll accept whatever you decide;
5. Epic or Marathon
6. Huge!
7. Random!
8. All of them
9. Preferences
- Advanced Start sound good.
- Permanent Alliances I don't like. I think that victory should be individual (much more fun as there are is more backstabbing
- Raging Barbarians to make it more interesting!
- Events ON! Like life... there is always random events!
- Tech Trading OFF.
- REquire complete kills specially if there is a lot of AI's.

So here is what I am talking about -- kind of started to do your homework for us :D

Well, thanks for that.

So now we have something to talk about. Is this what you had in mind? Do we like what we see? Notice, for example, that unlike Ancient starts the World is already visible, you just don't see you opponents. No control over map when you chose Balanced. Etc, etc...

Kinda yes, that´s what I meant, except that I´d rather start in the Modern or Industrial era and just give everyone a bazillion Advanced Start points to jumpstart the train into the future. One thing that should also be noted about later era starts is that while newly founded cities start with some buildings already in place and more than 1 pop, this comes with a hefty price as Settlers can become quite expensive, which is why I´d prefer a starting era one or two behind Future, or maybe even es far back as Renaissance.

Points should not exceed the cost of the available tech. Not by much at least. Nothing wrong with the expensive settler -- if the map size can support 50 cities you don't want give players points for 100... Future Era is a good pick -- we don't play them that often with vanila game. Must be an interesting competition. The only unfortunate thing is that one can see the map on the start. There is no way to turn that off :badcomp:

Well I´ve started my own test game with Legends of Revolution:

Points should not exceed the cost of the available tech.

What exactly do you mean by that? That the amount of points per player is a little under the cost of the cheapest tech available? In that case I should have assigned 2000-2500 points instead of the 10.000 you see above. (Default was 4400)

Well, I could buy 7 cities, 6 Workers, Garrisons + a lil extra troops, Rifling, a bunch of Privateers and some more small things and still had plenty of money left, so 10.000 which was more than double the default number was definitely too high for this start.

Nothing wrong with the expensive settler -- if the map size can suppost 50 cities you dont want give players points for 100...

Solution: Bigger map or less points.

5 gold hills? Wow. Never played this mod. It has a good future tech tree? Next War was a solid pick because everyone has it...

By the way you should never check Random Seed box -- opens room for exploits.

By the cost of tech I mean that players should not be able to buy too many techs with the points granted. Maybe enough for one and then has to continue with 1 city.

We can all agree to let game itself randomly generate our empires with the points granted. Usually one gets pretty reasonable empires.

How would things look like in Future Era with circa 6000 points?

Well, it´s more than BtS but less than Next War, although it has changed the Modern and Future eras quite a bit:

That´s only for SP games because, yes call me a cheater, I do reload when I get trolled by the RNG.

Ah alright then, I think the default number of points should be enough for that.

Like this:

The default number here was almost 12.000 btw, if I had bought one more city I would have had no more money for Garrisons or Improvements left, let alone techs.

Another thing that should be noted about later era starts is that religions get founded randomly on turn 4.

I´ll just leave this link here. :mischief:
For all those who think LoR is too complicated I should mention that all the new features like Revolutions, Legends, Influence Driven War etc. are completely optional, so we can turn things off that you guys don´t like.

I've played LOR and will say its a very good add-on pack for a traditional BTS game, shameless advertising. Its less specific than a scenario and better for random map type games... but then again it also completely nerfs my favorite Immortal unit too :p

Anyway, just a thought. Not sure if I'm in or not, I'm getting way too bogged down with way too many games right now!

Aw come on I need you! Now that I think about it, there isn't a single PBEM I'm playing in where you aren't.

How big is "Legends of Revolution" ... I am on a 1.5 GB per month plan currently, so need to be very careful. The last download I got on my system is v0.9.9b of LoR.

Anybody got a patch file.

Otherwise I am for "Next War" install as per BTS This will simply matters and we will all be on the same page.

Wait what? So you downloaded "LoR" and now you are asking how big "Legends of Revolution" is...

LoR... Legends of Revolution...

Link to video.

Ho big is the latest file. If any?

Perhaps he is asking for latest update or anything. I am currently downloading "Light" version 102 MB... I cannot believe there is a such a thing as limited internet in the capital of Oceania

Wait, there´s a light version?

I am on my mobile and do not have access to broadband where I am.

Yes, there is. It takes away all the custom art for units and has no movies, but 3 times lighter then full version.

Well I generated a future era game and was rather unimpressed. They have added only 1 Future unit and 5 reskined techs from Next War I mean mod itself looks and sounds really nice, but if we stay on the message of playing future era -- Next War has better possibilities. If we want to play another LoR game that's a different story. I believed "Future Era" was the key word and main novelty of your idea, but I guess not exactly :scan:

Lets do Future Era with Next War ... on an unknown world as is we have to left Earth

How about Epic Speed, future era start using the Next War mod, random Fractal map, and minimal advanced start points? This would get us right to the future era, but we'd still get to enjoy the exploration of the map and buildup of our empire? And before anyone whines about the lack of tech rate - obviously it will suck at first, but will slowly get better, and thats all part of the strategy considering we have limited techs left to learn anyway! thoughts?
