This is what you will receive in the mail:

This would be awesome. If you or Mars/Zelig could make it so clicking a stop on the map would show that picture, it would be 10 times awesomer. www.followtheyeti.com ? >.>

Somewhere between Finland and Aussieland, which is to say, I'd think, somewhere on earth ><

What is the name of that stuff animal again :)?

Zombies, Palahniuk, and a Yeti. :hmm:

I wouldn't take a picture a shelve higher, because twilight is on there and I won't allow visual evidence that it's in my apartment.

Like an original haiku in your own handwriting?
That might be hard to actually read.

He said interesting, not that he'd make someone rich.
Thank you for your faith in the long term value of my word smithing. :) I am less confident that the collected verses of Birdjaguar will have any lasting value beyond, perhaps, those who liked one specifically written for them.

Cameras are cheap and I'm sure I have at least one that is just sitting around. I would contribute it from NM for the rest of the package's journey if needed.

I'm going to set something up this weekend, then invite whoever wants to add suggestions, contribute code, or whatever. Is anyone here good at making graphics? Maybe a cartoon yeti or something? Or a logo? Mars/Zelig, my host uses PHP/MySQL

Statistically speaking that seems to mean Pakistan or India, at least in the most direct way possible of establishing a halfway point between two places. I'll just go with that

Hmmmmm.

I think I like this idea. It saves the reveal for the end. I'll ponder it.

As long as the host does not close down or anything happen too you.:(

At least with the camera someone else could have posted the pictures etc.

Google Maps API (https://developers.google.com/maps/) is supposed to be easy. But I don't know how much privacy it eats, and I expect Zelig to prefer some Bing maps thing.

I've got working google maps javascript code ready to go, it would just be the easiest way to do it. AFAIK there aren't any privacy concerns, but I haven't exactly looked into this in a lot of detail. What sort of privacy concerns are you thinking of?

Anything Google related has privacy concerns :)

I don't know enough about the code side of this to comment, but we're not going to be posting our address, just our city, right? That's information already in this thread!

Google, from the rumors I hear :scan:, employs facial-recognition voodoo.

But then again if they weren't doing it already, there are likely several other firms doing even deeper trolling.

Anyone who has ever posted a photo of themselves on civfanatics or facebook has already been compromised.

As a friend of mine who works on internet privacy stuff put it recently:
"I do know that privacy is dead, and burying your head in the sand is counterproductive and futile.
...
Especially if you don't really care. I don't. But it's my job.
...
At least in my world, this s**t unfortunately matters."

Hey i just checked the prices for sending stuff to Australia and it's surprisingly cheap. It's either 7 euro or 15 i can't tell . Unless the package weighs more than 3KG. And these are the prices for PRIORITY mail.
If i join this thing i'm most definitely going to be the one sending it there, given my location. Unless the package weighs too much :p i can afford to send it. But i will need to ask some questions at the postoffice before, and do some more research in sending packages abroad since i've never done that.
Also i will probably have to see what this tracking number thing is and if such a strange capitalist invention found it's way here.

I will ask around. I really wish to join this thing. :rudolf:

It's going NA > Kiwiland > Aussieland > Your-up

Yeah, no way will I be posting our real addresses on the map - it'll just be a generic locator that's "close enough".

I deal with very sensitive data at work every day; I hope you guys can trust my experience here in making this secure and non-invasive in any way :) Any privacy concerns that occur to me while I build the site will be brought to everyone's attention, but I really don't forsee any.
