The January 20 Thread

Thx Mech, I overlooked that.

On Jan. 20, Trump will repeal Obama's repeal of the use of torture. Trump has vowed to re-institute waterboarding and to go even further. America will be the only nation on earth that openly admits using torture. Trump: Making America medieval again. So much for that pesky 8th Amendment.
Just to get you ready for whats coming:

Ugg, don't think I'll click that.
Iraq is dead as a country. Even if Isis gets taken out, it won't change that. You'd just then have the Saudi surrogates and the turkish proxies/invasions.
And that is a US legacy, mostly of W. Although others helped, and the first gulf war was his father's move.

Perhaps so Kyr. I'd expect Iran to get a slice of the pie as well.

I actually think so. What I think is that Trump will not hesitate to beat out some info out of a terrorist to keep US safe while he is likely commit much less war crimes which globaly will lead to a decrease of terrorism which will ultimately mean a less torture. You see its a simple common sense.

If you think Trump can torture people without making the US far less safe, then that represents a level of ignorance and, let's be frank, childishness, on your part that completely demonstrates that you've never attempted to learn anything on the subject.

There is universal agreement that torture does not extract useful information.

What I am saying is rather that if torture will be used it will be likely more then in specific use when it is absolutely necessary and efficient unlike today when its common but secret part of artificialy made up campaign against non-existent enemy. The whole war on terror is a hoax to bully and keep the population in fearful obedience and happily surrendering its freedoms for safety.

Surely past a degree a tortured person will just admit to having done ANYTHING if it stops the torture.
The difference is that only the one who makes war on false pretext can make use of such an info...

I'm not inclined to view that, either.

I read a book a few years ago about some of the tortures used during the Inquisition. Since my imagination works just fine, I don't need to see a video.

Yes, and I'm even looking forward to the next page in the thread. That looks grim... Ditto on the imagination. What an awful way to die.

January 20th; to me this year that's the end of the week in which we observe Martin Luther King Day. OK, so there may be some other events going on, but let's go with something nice and noncontroversial.

Good thing you are in Philippines and perfectly shielded by your geographical position from the horrors of the Trumpdom.

If you meant this sarcastically, :hatsoff:for a perfect balance of sarcasm and subtlety on the Internet, a hard feat to pull off.

Whelllll...here tis! For better or worse, presenting...

J a n u a r y 20!

Happy Trump day to All Y'all.

Yeah. Here we are. As a straight, white man with a job and no major health concerns I guess I'm trying to see the silver lining of my privileged bubble. Not being wealthy, I don't anticipate the Trump administration doing anything to make my life better, but I don't think it will get worse.

I'm going to a funeral of a co-worker who passed away earlier this week, so even disregarding the inauguration, kind of a glum day.

The company I am working for was also sold and is transitioning to new ownership, so I am sort of trying to make good first impressions all over again. Luckily, Trump has only nominated 28 of 690 Congressionally approved appointees, when the last two presidents were at around 100 at this point in the game, so I feel like I am probably not doing any worse on the job than he is.

I had to call in Housekeeping to reconnect my TV. I had carpeting installed in September and the crew disconnected it. Now the Idiot Box is on reminding me why I stopped watching.

So apparently there's next to nobody there. Traffic around the beltway is better than usual and the streets are empty.

Kind of predictable, isn't that?

I mean, if all the people talking about how omg divided and omg segregated and omg geographic divisions we are as a country aren't entirely mistaken. It seems rather like DC is pretty far from Trump country, and that Trump country doesn't really have a lot of people taking random vacations on Fridays to jet across the country for a blowhard party. Heck, even being in "Trump country" there's never been much "Yay! We win!" as much as it's been, "Oh boy, here we go." That crap all seems like amplification effect.
