The latest Star Trek movie trailer....

Obviously there has been a recent, rather major change in how the Federation (or at least Starfleet) economy works.

This is the thing that really gets me when it comes to sci-fi fandom. Sloppiness by the shows creators is so readily accepted as evidence of some unlikely plot event. What's wrong with saying that the writers describe a society with no money, although it's not clear when this was decided and there are several inconsistencies. Why resort to convoluted plot explanations?

Sorry, I don't mean to criticise.

Rofl, I like the way people are arguing over who's a bigger Star Trek dork.

Anyway it looks like one of the few films worth paying money to see.

Looks like it could possibly be the best Star Trek movie yet...

Better than Star Trek IV? Are you mad ;)

I'm quite glad this thread was bumped, or I may have missed the news. The cast looks a bit too young for my liking. Simon Pegg is great. Never heard of the others.

I'll watch it of course- I love all things Star Trek and besides it can hardly be worse than Nemesis.

Yeah, and this looks like they're continuing the series in that failed direction: younger, explodier, dumber. I'm not going to see this one, probably not even when it comes out on DVD. The franchise died with Picard's exit, for me. DS9 was decent, Voyager had its moments, Enterprise sucked, and this looks like crap.

My thoughts exactly. Everything after TNG did not really capture my interest somehow.
I have to say that I´m quite disappointed :(. But we´ll see. I´m probably gonna watch it anyway :crazyeye: .

I liked ALL the Star Trek films... every single one of them! And I liked all series, from TOS to Enterprise. I liked Enterprise the least, though.

Crucify me for saying this, but I think the last season of Enterprise was rather good. Too little, too late, however.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the movie.

I loved Enterprise, except for the whole Time War thing. I liked the way there was less techno-babble, and I remember thinking "yes!!!!!" when I saw them loading torpedos into the tubes manually.

You've obviously never read the "Star Trek Mysteries Explained" articles in Trek/The Best of Trek. ;) You would not believe the convoluted reasoning some people have behind what are some rather obvious goofs by production.

They also did this in The Wrath of Khan.

Looks like they're making it a little too young and sexy. The new Kirk kind of reminds me of a young Tom Cruise (Risky Business / Top Gun). Spying on Uhura getting undressed? That's pretty tacky.
I think if they over do the frat boy high jinx in the plot then it will kill the series for me. I'd rather they make it a bit more serious and professional than that.

Frat boy highjinx at Starfleet Academy? That might well be the most realistic part of the movie.

Am I the only ringknocker on CFC?

Enterprise was by far the best in the series. Are you all on crack! It was also the only one that felt realistic. Cash-less societies and all that crap, uck. All the other ones seem like they put crap like that in to make them all high and moral, but never really bout how that would work.

geez it was like hearing a high school drop out pothead talk about Communism while high as hell.

DS9 had some of that realism in it too. A big part of its theme was to reveal how superficial and unjust the cashless society could be, and to show how doing the wrong thing can turn out better than doing good.

The Hilton in Las Vegas has Quark's Cafe in it's Star Trek Experience. :D
