The Mars Chronicles

Quit spamming!

I vote renaming Shady Sands to Epic City!
The next city can be Epic City 2, then Epic City 3, and so on. :D

.....

Your map reminds me of the Front Mission franchise's political map, Tambien.
There isn't a good accurate image of it online but with how you've set up each nation, it feels a lot like it.
Save all you would have to do is merge Japan and your Pacifican Union and you get the OCU.

Nice update. Looking forward for t he next one.

It is not ASB. In 2008 there is an Islamic resurgence happening(New Arabia), North America is pretty much one culture(save Mexico, who would have joined for the police if nothing else) as is Europe, China would have expanded, China's expansion and a resurgent Japanese Imperialism are plausible. The formation of the Pacifican Union to combat this is also plausible. The AU follows the path of the EU, and South Africa tries to "save" the rest of Africa from the AU.

Islamic Resurgence means nothing. The Shia/Sunni Split is more severe than any schism in Christian history by a country mile. Meanwhile, I can't see why the US/Canadian economies would want Mexico all things considered AFTER peak oil where the only thing Mexico has going for it labor to be fair, I can actually see a cultural merging by 2140.

Chinese expansion is NOT plausible and it just a way to lower the amount of nations on the map. Some parts, like Southeast Asia and Central Asia could possibly be handwaved but Nuclear India and Nuclear Pakistan? The chances of a revolution tearing the Collective to pieces is much better than a revolution to turn a country with half the world's population and hundreds of different long-standing ethnic groups with experience of nationhood into a liberal democracy.

I can accept the North African Union given it seems to have been set up through violence.

In the end, smaller states would have to hang together or hang alone.

Africa is a place, today, that if given a chance, could easily see double the amount of nations within it even though it would be more beneficial today to join together and catch up. That's just the way things are. True, there is a tendency to try to band together to catch up in an arms race but this is usually through military and economic alliances and mergers are rare.
-----------

For the record, I'm not arguing that it doesn't make for a good story. I'm just saying that it is, indeed, ASB.

I love this story already! :goodjob:

They would join out of necessity. Why be conquered by an imperialist power, when you can join a democratic one?

Because India and to some extent, Pakistan are both already democratic nations with nuclear weapons. This would be like the French and British becoming the 51st to 54th States because they rather not be part of Germany during World War 2.

Thanks for all the praise!

A word about updates: My goal with this story is this. This is not just a civ 4 story. It is much more than that. So, while I will be loosely following the game I play, there will be updates that take place on Earth, on other planets, and even in deep space as well as on Mars. I want to create an entire fictional universe out of this story, chronicling the rise of mankind into an interstellar power, and dealing with a changing earth.

About the superpowers, here is my opinion on them.

UFWH: This is one that could be able to fit this story's world, but it seems kinda big to be honest. In universe, Canada has never quite recovered from the Crash, and during the Crash many Latinos fled en masse to the US, Brazil, Yucatan, and few other places. I plan on having plenty of events happen in Canada...(OOC: :mwaha:)

SAE and NAU: No problems here, there could be an African Cold War between these two powers, or something of that sort.

EU: Again, no problems here. It could be in a cold war with Russia at the moment.

IRF: Eventually, I will describe the Siberian War of the 2060s in detail, but at the moment just think that Russia was heavily damaged by the war and lost great amounts of land, but it inflicted even heavier damage on China.

NAE:
I have no problems with this, save two. What about the Sunni-Shiite split, and what happened to Israel?

AC: I can see how China obtained Central Asia, but this is probably the power I have the most problems with. India could easily muster up enough troops to stay independant from China. (OOC: Even as early as 2025, India's population could outnumber China due to India's complete lack of population control laws) Especially after China's cities were all demolished during the Siberian War.

FJI:How Japan got Eastern Russia is beyond me, but other than that no issues.

PU:No problems here.

I would like to make a definitive timeline of the events from 2008 to 2140, to clear up any issues.

NAE: One conquered/exterminated the other. There was no one to stop them in the post-Crash world.

AC: Post-Crash the outside aid that India(to some extent) relys on was cut off, thus a famine, also, China used nukes aquired from North Korea and ones that it made oon its own to take out Pakistan and India before they could do anything about it, the resulting chaos let the Chinese take control.

FJI: When Russia collapsed Japan just marched across the tundra and proclaimed their ownership.

I have another question, can I help with the updates dealing with mankind's colonization and exploration efforts?

NAE: One conquered/exterminated the other. There was no one to stop them in the post-Crash world.

This somehow happened despite Israeli nuclear weapons and, surely by this point, Iranian nuclear weapons?

This doesn't make any sense. Nuclear weapons aren't instant-hit weapons. It takes time for them to hit and India and Pakistan would notice nuclear weapons flying their direction in that case. And why would China use shoddy NK weapons when they have 200+ in submarines or silos.

FJI: When Russia collapsed Japan just marched across the tundra and proclaimed their ownership.[/QUOTE]

Why would they do that? Why would China allow Japan to remilitarize if China is apparently magical enough to get around the fact that India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons.

Even if your scenario made sense up until the nuclear weapons part, it doesn't make sense after the fact. India, Pakistan, and the MANY different ethnic groups would sooner try to secede as opposed to form a liberal democracy where the member states have used nuclear weapons against each other.

Ah, but in this timeline, China developed invisible nukes with technology given by magic space bats.

About the superpowers you could add the New greek empire.

It will have the same territories that the byzantine empire had at 330 AD.(Balkans, minor asia, holy land and egypt)

Also, keep in mind that this war happened in the future, so we have more than just Nukes, we have orbital satellites that can drop WMDs vertically, among other things, etc.
