The Olive Branch Thread

Just a couple of opinions here. I think that the standards for this particular thread, because of it's very nature, should be very high. Particularly in terms of compassion and sincerity.

Also, IMHO, if you insult or embarrass someone publically on an open thread - in front of everybody - then you should have the moxy to apologize in front of everybody. Indeed, it would be more self-serving to pm your victim and hide your apology.

I myself have said some bone-headed things to people and later regretted it - long after the thread has passed on. I'm glad there's a place to go to make it right. Thanks Hobbs.

I don't know if this strictly counts as an olive branch as I don't think there is any "bad blood" between us to my knowledge, but I would like to extend my respects to Reindeer Thistle. I still have some reservations or doubts about what appear to be your sympathetic interpretations of North Korea but you have stirred some very profound reflections in me toward politics and what I thought I knew and what I really didn't. Also Cheezy and Traitorfish have likewise given me a lot of food for thought. Again I don't always see things perfectly eye to eye but the "reds" have really caused me to pause and think and reflect a lot more about society and the world around me. In a sense you have made it very inconvenient for me to remain ignorant.
:hatsoff:
Speaking, of course, for myself, I must say that Gary, you are the most civil poster I have ever encountered on this thread. No "bad blood" at all, and when you encountered ignorance on my part, you simply educated, not berated. You ask sincere questions and accept me at my word, even when you disagree. From that we can all learn.

I agree, expecially with the bolded text. Glassfan and I disgagree on a number of things, but I am safe to say that we are both the better for it, and I certainly appreciate his point of view and his experience. What a dull world we would live in if we were all the same!

And, thanks also to Hobbs for this thread.

Perhaps this thread would be better served under RD standards?
It was originally a Chamber thread, and later was moved to the Tavern (over my objections) by a mod. I would prefer it to be an RD thread now as the teething problems earlier in the thread seemed to worked themselves out.
Wouldn't it be more appropriate to post revision-of-stance stuff in the relevant discussion thread and use this thread for the apology with maybe some context & a link to the discussion thread?

Not modPete here, just chatPete ;)
You aren't factoring in my belligerent, over-the-top causticness. If I was just correcting my previous errors of logic, you would be correct but really I'm correcting my unnecessary trollishness.

I stand by my earlier post. Apologies are for the weak. I stand by everything I've ever said, even if it was idiotic and I disagree with it in hindsight. It reminds me of how enlightened and wise I currently am, even if I'm not a professional quote maker. In this moment, I am euphoric. Eh?

Then stop posting here?

Almost missed this. You're welcome Glassfan and I'm glad to see this thread lived past some earlier unfortunate incidents.

Point being, if you really feel the need to apologize, do it in private. A public demonstration is unnecessary and self-serving. Come, everyone, far and wide - look at how magnanimous I am. It's the equivalent of posting your apology as a Facebook status instead of talking to the damn person.
So you have a different opinion of the purpose of this thread. Good for you.
I don't want an apology. Those serve to please the giver more than the receiver, anyways. I am annoyed by the sheer self-righteousness oozing from every post. The "I'm so much better, so much more sophisticated, so much more mature than you" vibe dripping from every word. And then his "apology" is disgustingly hypocritical. It's repulsively condescending in a smug, self-satisfying way.
I don't get that from his posts really, but in any case if that were his 'vibe', he'd be correct.

That post obviously wasn't serious?

I don't think it's bad, but it's ridiculous to think it's so mature and thoughtful.

You think you're Gandhi because you make a public spectacle out of apologies?

I apologise to various people for various reasons, to mods etc.

Can i be absolved of my sins please?

Moderator Action: Zack -- enough. Everyone else -- let's move on please.

edit: spam deleted. I am serious. This is an Olive Branch thread, it is not for squabbling about apologies or non-apologies. This thread gets a short leash from here on out.

Before I leave the site for some time, I am sorry. Thanks (once more, sorry) to Mango Elephant, for actually making me aware of a few things and sorry for having done or said them. I apologise to any and all people I may have offended on this site and especially on the Photos thread. I will spare excuses since they're hardly any good ever. One last time, sorry. I hope you can forgive me.

PD: I do not apologise to any IOT people I may have offended because I was perfectly aware and willing it.

I need to cool down and step away from a few controversial threads for a day or two. I've managed to cheese off some old CFC friends pretty well, I am sure, the last couple of days. So for that I am sorry. Downtown, Cheezy, RT, Useless, Tim, just to get started... sorry. Not really sorry for my views, mind you, but I've been a grade-a arse in my presentation. Got too worked up.

Tim, you're actually a fairly new one rather than an old CFC friend, but you're a solid egg nonetheless.

I have my own very strong views, which I also don't apologize for and I know run counter to yours. I give you my assurance I am very hard to cheese off, but I appreciate this just the same. For my (undeniably intentional) part in working you up I too apologize.

Probably a good time for me to take a few days off as well.

I think we all need to cool down. Things are hot enough in the real world as it is.

That's why I'm doing a watch-through of Archer today. :high5:

Shoot I missed the drama!

Nothing to apologise for, if anything i should be the one apologising to you!

Even when we do disagree, i still respect and like you as a person, regardless of your opinions.

Sorry for acting like an idiot :sad::(

Offering one to Kyriakos. I don't like you, your posts are annoying at best, and nauseating at worst, but I shouldn't have been so childish about it. Sorry.

That's not an apology...
