But of course, they won't get your land, not for long, because there's also the Arabs coming...

Byzantium should flip Egyptian cities if they're Western Roman or Independent, though. That's what I assume Rorgloin meant.

In one of my Egypt games I saw Babylon and Shushan, which were previously owned by Rome, flipped to Byzantium. I don't think they are in Byzantium's flip zone.

Personally, I think the Byzantines should only flip all Roman and Independent cities in the entire Mid East, because it makes no sense regardless of the circumstances.
