Apparently not. I was told by a Ukrainian immigrant to "read books by Veles" to find out the real history of Russia or the Russian/Ukrainian language.

It's probably a pseudonym used by some author. Or the so-called ‘Book of Veles’:

In Ukraine, whereas academic scholars agree that the book is a hoax, it became very popular among politicians who consider it genuine and believe it describes real historical facts relevant for establishing Ukrainian ethnicity. In particular, Levko Lukyanenko was citing the Book of Veles as historical. In 1999, the book was included in the high school program in Ukraine as a genuine literary and historical piece.[4] Whereas the inclusion was considered controversial in academic circles, the book remained on the program as of 2008.[5]

It's probably this Book of Veles... he did tell me this through Google translate, so garbling is to be expected.

If there's anything resembling the words ‘Велесова Книга’ in the original Ukrainian then yes, it's that book.

New question: how would I post a video taken on my Android on CFC?

How do I even upload it? Can't seem to get it into my email.

Usually FB gives an option to share video directly from your phone, if you have that. You could dry using a Google dropbox and then attaching it to a post.

Google'll quell that real quick because of their bandwidth caps.

You can upload it to YouTube as an unlisted video. Or you can upload it to a (public) Facebook page.

I did a bit more searching on this and found stuff about metal tooth filling being able to occasionally pick up radio signals. I wonder if that could be it? :crazyeye: Not very likely, I'd think. Wouldn't discount it entirely though.
There was a Gilligan's Island episode where that happened. The rest of the castaways kept dragging Gilligan off to make him tune in their favorite stations.

Maybe this warrants a thread of its own, maybe not. If it does the mods can just do their thing an split it off. Anyway:

Does the collective defense clause of the NATO treaty apply to civil wars? Like if, say, France descended into civil war, could their government invoke the collective defense clause of the NATO treaty to have other treaty members back them up in crushing the rebellion?

This is the original text I found for Article 5.

Article 5
The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .

It's pretty broad and the attack doesn't seem to have to originate from a different government or country, but I guess in case of civil war everybody will interpret in whichever way serves their interests.

It would require the state in question to recognise the rebelling faction as a belligerent, which they're generally reluctant to do unless forced to the negotiating table.

That's for people who wear hats, but, yes. Sometimes in winter.

Was anyone else taught growing up that men are supposed to remove their hats when entering a building?

I wasn't specifically taught, since hats were pretty rare, but I did know it. Then I was in the navy, where it is mandatory.

Yes. I was also yelled at by an adult man when I was 17 for not taking my hat off in a bank while trying to cash my paycheck on my 15 minute break.

I don't ever wear hats anyway
What sort of Communist are you who doesn't wear a hat?
Hats and facial hair are the two defining visual characteristics of a Communist.

If one of the two is red it should be enough.
