I have an original model xbox 360 (component RGB cable only, no hdmi). Are the adapters that convert to HDMI any good, or should I buy a used version of a newer model 360 that has HDMI output available?
I've never had an adapter from Monoprice crap out.

There are sites that you can upload videos to without giving out PII, and there are sites you can link videos to inline here for commentary. Are there any that are both?

Are you asking if there's a way to post a Streamable link here and have it embedded? No. The admins would have to install a plugin that adds gifv, webm, and mp4 support.

I mean is there a service that you can, ie. that the admins have installed the plugin for, that does not require signing up.

No, I don't think so. :( There's Dailymotion, Metacafe, Vimeo, and Facebook, but they all require accounts.

How much personal data do you have to give e.g. YouTube to open an account? Every now and then YT/Google tries to get me to give them my mobile telephone (or at least the number) and I keep telling them to sod off because I don't have one to begin with.

People go on about Terminators and so on, when Google will just buy shares in countries once they've amassed enough wealth.

Weak. The hip thing to do is to read books about purple wombats.
Yeah, I thought that was cool too:

Following the accidental discovery by scientists in the United States that platypuses glow under UV light, further tests by Australian scientists show other mammals and marsupials also glow.
Biofluorescence has long been known to occur in some insects and sea creatures, but it was unknown that it occurred in other Australian mammals until earlier this month, when scientists at the Western Australian Museum rushed to check their specimen drawers to factcheck the US report.
The findings have Australian scientists working together to confirm the findings of biofluorescence in these animals, and to start looking for a reason that it may occur.
Paula Anich is a North America squirrel researcher from the Center for Science and the Environment, Northland College in the USA, and co-author of the paper about biofluorescent platypuses that was published in the journal Mammalia.
"It's hard to resist a platypus," Dr Anich said.

What's the gold standard for webcams these days? The last time I bought one was 8 years ago and it was a LifeCam, and I'm guessing that's no longer the case given all the HD streaming that's happening these days.

If the UK were to disestablish the monarchy and become a republic, would they keep the name United Kingdom? If not, what would it be changed to?

"Commonwealth" would be the name with the great historical resonance, and is understood as less stridently republican than "Republic" (Australia uses the name while retaining the monarchy, for example), so would probably be seen as a reconciliatory gesture.

But they might go the Canada root and just become "Great Britain", with no official description.

Hopefully, if the monarchy was ever dissolved, Ireland would be one country again. And I don't mean a state like N. Ireland.

Wikipedia informs me that while the official name of Canada is Canada, there are still times when the archaic name "Dominion of Canada" is used.

I haven't heard "Dominion" since July 1 became Canada Day, rather than Dominion Day (it was weird at first, getting used to that).

We're used to the term 'Commonwealth' and I don't have a problem with it.

Let's see. A Republic would remind people of the French, German and especially the provos so no.
A Commonwealth would hark back to that time when kings could actually be executed and, worse, deposed.

I for one would welcome the Great British Free State.

United Commonwealth or Commonwealth of Britain or?
