TIL that there is an app called Cameo which allows you to purchase customized videos from famous people. I watched a few of them and they are roughly 1 min long and they are mostly like 'Happy Birthday' or 'Congratulations on your promotion' or something along those lines. What really floored me were the prices. Most seem to be in the $50-$500 range. The highest I saw was $10,000 for a Floyd Mayweather video. Seems like an enormous waste of money to me for something of so little value. I'm not sure I'd even pay $10 for one

I think somebody ran off with your walrus and substituted a whale (or is it a dolphin? I'm having trouble telling) ...

TIL also that Señor Wences' nephew, who is also a ventriloquist, was arrested with charges for international organized crime and money laundering.

To be honest. I read about the arrest two days ago, but today I read he was Señor Wences' nephew

TIL that 2nd of July of non leap years, there are same amount of days pending to end of year than days passed since begining of the year-

Well, yes. Is that really the first time you've ever sat down and worked that out?

I think that depends on if you're a big fan of someone.
If I could get my GF a personalized message from Daniel Craig, she'd absolutely be in heaven. He's not on there though, and I'd probably not want to afford him lol. I think it's mostly about showing that you know someone well.
If you're not madly into someone, then it's surely a waste.

(we had a discussion about this a while ago, IIRC)

It's a beluga.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beluga_whale

Technically
a whale, but not much bigger than the larger dolphin species.

I'm also a little surprised you didn't recognise it? I mean, sure, I know Alberta's landlocked, and Red Deer's a long way from the coast in any direction, but even if you've never seen one in the flesh, belugas are native to Canadian/Arctic waters, and pretty iconic: right up there with polar bears, as charismatic megafauna beloved by e.g. conservation campaigners.

I couldn't quite make out the picture. I'm posting by night light, since I don't want every friggin' moth around to be attracted.

Seems that our chances of meeting any Vulcans are pretty slim.
The first time I heard of this was in the early '70s. This was a few years before I got into Star Trek.

I changed it to a beluga whale a few months ago but for some reason never changed the caption. Guess I'm too lazy. Hell, my location still says Alpha Quadrant from back when I had Data as my avatar and that was years ago...

Great news for capitalist game-players!

TV-Style Commercials Are Coming To Console Games
A company called playerWON, described as "a first-of-its-kind in-game advertising platform", has signed deals with
companies like EA and Hi-Rez to try to bring TV-style commercials to their console games.

Having tested this tech for over a year, they feel like it's now ready to be implemented, the idea being rather than
just beaming videos to them in the middle of a game, players would be able to view an ad then, when servers detected
the commercial had been viewed in its entirety, "release rewards to the player." This tech would be licensed out to
developers so it could be implemented in the game itself (unlike the ads we already see on consoles, in places like
system menu screens), and they're trying to justify it by saying that because young people are "cord-cutters,"
they're unreachable via traditional, cheaper marketing, and are only being reached by branded content deals (like
the sneakers and clothes in NBA 2K, or cup noodles in Final Fantasy).

TYL PC gamer master race

I heard about it about the same time from a book entitled The Planet that Never Was, a collection of science essays by Isaac Asimov. :coffee:
That book is probably in my collection (most of my books are still packed). I read about Vulcan in the newspaper.

There's a chance I saw Joe Rogan when he was a kid doing a magic act at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. It was the mid 70s and he was 7-8 and I was in HS and the Wharf was one of our favorite places.
