OK, I'll be playing (at least a few turns) shortly.

I can play on Sunday. If DWetzel takes it before that, templar_x can take it after me.

Look's like we have a roster then:

Bucephalus - just played
DWetzel - UP
ThinkTank - warming up
templar_x - on deck
TheOverseer417 - waiting

Any objections?

Looks good to me, since I am behind on my other SGs. Been sick all week, so barely have the energy to stay awake, much less track an SG.

OK, I'll be playing (at least a few turns) shortly.

Just 3 turns over lunch (the boring parts). Combustion in 8 at 0% science I assume is just fine, gives us about 540 gpt to rush things. That or go to 100% science and get it in 5 turns instead. :)

Carnage to come soon. Film at 11.

Played 7 turns, and that's all I'm going to have time for, I'm afraid. And I just realized I didn't put the save on this flash drive. I'll have that up later this afternoon.

Unedited turn log and pics to follow. Sacking of France has begun. Really, at this point, it's a matter of bombing and taking, there's basically no resistance at all.

Spoiler :
Beating Demigod notes 1150AD

Preflight: CA2, notepad.

Decide to spend most of our cash to upgrade the remaining cannons. (Why not.) Disband crusader/SM/one last cannon in Utrecht to rush one more galleon for next turn. Disband a frigate in Chondote to rush that galleon. (We have more than plenty of frigates, and we can get destroyers pretty soon).

There are 13 fully loaded galleons just outside Rotterdam 2 now, with one more popping up in Chondote and one more in Utrecht. Also switch the infantry in Arnhem to a galleon as well. Those can carry the just upgraded cannon.

Automate a few workers to clean up a spot of pollution.

Hit enter.

IBT: Incan cav beats French longbow. Then a redlined French cav beats an Incan longbow and generates a leader, which runs to the nearest town. Some French longbows move.

1160 (1): Utrecht galleon-galleon. Arnhem galleon-infantry. Maastricht artillery-artillery. Chondote galleon-wealth. New Holwerd galleon-wealth.

I have a 2/4 cav on a hill, I send that to kill the 1/5* French cav. (1-0).

Hmm... Corp in 2, TOE in 2... that's not good, is it? Move some tiles at Pasargarde to compensate. If I'm stupid about how this works, it costs us 1 turn on TOE, big whoop.

Start the Flotilla of Doom heading west.

IBT: Oops, I forgot to cover that redlined cav of ours. That was one of about 6 units to die in the IBT--the rest being Incan/French. (1-1).

1170 (2): Amsterdam infantry/infantry. Rotterdam ditto. Some people love the king.

IBT: Inca lose a longbow. France lands a longbow on Viking island.

1180 (3): We get Corp. Switch to Refining, and Pasargarde gets production back. No big deal.

We build ToE. Take Refining and Steel. Combustion is in 8 turns at 0% science, I think there are some taxmen that can get that down further-yup, make it 7, though it'll be close. Pasargarde ToE-bank.

We spam out a galleon up north (zGrand River > wealth). Allegheny frigate-frigate. New Amsterdam artillery-artillery. Lauwerskoog cav-cav. The Hague army-army. Arnhem galleon-cav. Haarlem market-galleon. Breda coal plant-cav. Tilburg artillery-market.

Inca finish Smith's in Cuzco.

French longbow on Viking Island dies (2-1).

Move some troops, we land next turn.

I've landed a few SMs and a cav on France's west coast, mostly because I could.

IBT: French land one longbow on our mainland.

1190 (4): Rotterdam inf>inf. Delft coal plant-cav (44 spt). New Utrecht galleon-factory. Titidemigodgrad galleon>galleon.

Breda pollutes a cow.

Rheims (France) completes Universal Suffrage.

I send a fresh infantry to dispose of that longbow (3-1).

Breda lost its 2-turn cav to pollution, so I make a guerilla there. Why not.

We land the Stack of Doom at Grenoble. Three armies are there to meet it--I figure we'll split up into two groups to start to head west for the French core, and another to clean up the north. Some stragglers can clean up towns like Marseilles.

Just for fun I bomb a 3/3 rifle in Grenoble with the three frigates (two miss, one goes to 1/3 and reveals another 3/3).

IBT: French land a longbow right next to where I killed the last one. Ain't AI great? Inca and France exchange some longbow fire.

1200 (5): Perseopolis artillery-artillery. Amsterdam inf>inf. New Leerdam cav>cav. Arnhem cav>cav.

Unsurprisingly, our infantry kills that French LB (4-1).

Rush some artillery on the mainland--I think I can get 8 artillery over to France's west coast and that should speed things up.

Grenoble has just two rifles in it; artillery go 4 for 4 in bombing them to 1/3 each. Army kills them. 5/5 cavs kills longbow (7-1). We take Grenoble (there's still a road I want to use, we can abandon it soon), size 4, 3 resisters, market/harbor/aqueduct.

eKnight takes out another longbow nearby (3/5) (8-1).

Armies pick off three more roaming longbows (11-1).

IBT: I sent a few cavs onto a hill to scout a bit ahead. One of them got picked off by a French longbow (11-2), another retreated. Inca and France trade blows. There's a privateer off our far south island.

French land the inevitable longbow sacrifice.

1210 (6) We built a lot of stuff.

Infantry > longbow (12-2).

Armiens has two rifles + a longbow, all of which I bomb to oblivion. Army wins twice, then 3/5 eKinght finishes the longbow and razes Amiens. (15-2)

Abandon Grenoble (we don't need it).

I generously kill four random French longbows to help them with unit support (19-2).

IBT: Not much.

1220 (7): Oporto settler>settler. We also get two galleons and a cav.

Dijon had two rifles, three longbows, and an artillery, a factory, bank, market, and granary. Now it doesn't. (25-2). Our army there did get beaten down quite a bit, but I had the stack of cavs to finish the job. Keep town temporarily for road control.

Land 8 artillery at Besancon under the waiting army, cav, and 3 SMs.

At Avignon we shell and kill 3 rifles. (17-3) the city falls. We will keep it for 1 turn in order to convert the leader to an army.

IBT
Inca are still furious with us and demand saltpeter. I cave, as I want them to keep fighting the French.
In return, at the end of the IBT, the Inca sign peace with the French.
We produce 2 cav, 2 inf, 2 arty, 2 destroyers, 2 cruisers.

Turn 4: 1255AD
Inca want coal for an alliance against the French. We have a spare one connected, as well as a spare unconnected. I agree, Inca declare on the French.

Our stack near Cherbourg is shelled by 2 frigates, no visible harm.
We produce 1 cav, 1 inf.

At Cherbourg we shell and kill 3 rifles and a frigate, the city falls, we raze it. 44-4.

IBT
We produce 3 cav, 1 arty.

Turn 9: 1280AD
Battle of Paris, take 1. Arty reveals at least 9 defenders, but we have only 2 armies in the stack and there are Incan cavs nearby. I don't want to do all the hard work and then let the Incans take Paris. So I move another army within reach and wait 1 turn.
Near the ruins of Cherbourg we kill3 loose units. 47-4.
kill loose unit near Paris. 48- 4.

IBT
We lose a cannon. 48-5.
The Incans conquer the French city of Chartres (S of Paris).
We produce 3 inf, 2 arty.

Turn 10: 1285AD

Battle of Paris, take 2. It takes 29 shots of our arty to redline all 10 defenders. Our armies kill them all and Paris is ours. Team can decide if we keep it. 58-5

Handoff notes to the next player:

There is a ship chain from our NW coast going W to France.
If we do not want to keep Paris you should disband it after the IBT.
Most troops are in the Paris area, 2 loose groups are near Rheims.

Tactics for the coming turns.

French are toast. I'd say finish of Rheims and then make peace, trying to get as many island towns in the deal, including the one tile island. Then redeclare right away.

I traded saltpeter and coal to the Incans so they would keep fighting the Fench. I'm not sure that was really needed, given the fairly weak resistance of the French. There were 3 to 5 defenders per city (the exception being Paris, where there were 10). I would suggest we cancel the deals by declaring on the Incans as soon as we are ready. This will be pretty soon, next turn or the turn after that, as we have a massive force in the Paris area, which is close to Incan territory. They do have some cav now, so be shure to cover our stacks of arty.

For sailing over reinforcements, there's a ship chain heading West from Rotterdam 2 to Dordrecht in former French territory. I have been upgrading some galleons to transports as they are faster and take more units. There are some Incan ships close to the ship chain, so take care, but we have cruisers and destroyers in the area so all should be safe.

sounds good, so the Incas are next, right?

i´ll probably be able to play tomorrow night. consider this a got it.

At Titidemigodgrad (so who was that who founded this city?)

that would be me ;)

but it´s titidemigodOgrad. one has to be serious when being funny.

playing now

i played 6 turns tonight, it´s nearly 4 a.m. and i´ll stop for now. i´ll try to play the rest tomorrow.

france was eradicated from the other continent and only hold one of the southwestern islands with two towns. the 1-tile island is ours. progress goes fine against the incas as well - the northern half of the continent is already practically in our hands. Cuzco might fall in the remaining 4 turns or in the first turns of the next player.

I'd say that our straggler troops that are being built are good candidates to go finish off the French (and the crappy southern Incan tundra island).

I do hope we can get semi-detailed reports of the end turns, even if it's a mop-up job. Some of us could use lessons in effective war prosecution.

sorry guys, i couldn´t play yesterday night. work is very demanding now due to the financial crisis.
but i should be able to play the remaining turns tonight.

@ DWetzel - there won´t be much if anything left on the north half of the other continent to mop up. there are more than enough troops available.
i already started to build a fleet for the invasion of the south french and inca islands for the next player plus warship cover.

i´ll try to make clear how i proceeded, but have to mention that this has been very different from how i would have done it in my own games. so comments on how i could have done better in this playstyle are welcome.
(i don´t do the pillaging we did in my play so progress was extremely slow compared to what i´m used to... it becomes quicker now because the Incan lands still have their roads.)

(i don´t do the pillaging we did in my play so progress was extremely slow compared to what i´m used to... it becomes quicker now because the Incan lands still have their roads.)

I wondered about that as well--brought a few settlers along and then realized that they weren't good for anything in France. I think pillaging needed to be done though. The Incas should get steamrolled pretty easily I think, hopefulyl the combat settlers can be put to use.

@DWetzel - this wasn´t meant as criticism in any way. i´m just trying to explain why i am not used to this situation. the settlers were of great use for the start of the offensive against Inca - none left any more, unfortunately, but i built a rail network to compensate for that.

wasn´t hard to make a lot of progress, though. i think it´s 13 cities left. here´s the turnlog and the save:

Spoiler :
actions in last turn, 1285AD

ok, this is somehow new to me and i´ll try to copy that play style. i don´t engage into that pillaging thing in my own games – templars are “celibate” to these tactics . so moving around the arty will be quite a new experience for me, without all those roads...

build an airfield next to Ollan... and move most of our bombers there. next player can reach most of the Incan cities that are left from here.

notes to the next player:

there´s an invasion fleet NW of the French island for landing next turn.
there´s another invasion fleet to embark from New Groningen next turn. any units you need to fill the new army there plus the ship should finish on ibt. there´s some money left to rush what you might think you need.
there are two french galleons in the stack of ships NE of the French island. three of our ships are around there or on the way down the west coast to sink those.
the north should be cleared of any ships but 3 enemy frigates i didn´t care about.

in my turns, i did little mm and hardly any worker actions as this does not make a difference any more. hope that´s ok for everyone.
i´m sure i was not too exact in my moves but i think everything is covered and there was hardly anything you could seriously call resistance.
intention for next turn was: bombers on Washington, more western stack of arty on NY, more eastern stack of arty move towards tile 2 west from Chuquiapo, enabling you to shell this town and from one tile east Boston the turn after

there are 2 or 3 French troops wandering around on the north half of the other continent, i just let them

next player should easily be able to finish this. maybe let TT take the last town? anyway, have fun.

Regarding the pillaging: although it made for a more methodical conquest, we were only facing rifles and longbows; without pillaging, it's true that we could have used combat settlers and the railnet to move more quickly, but we would probably have faced infantry defending. Either way, we had this won a long time ago. This has been a fine effort, team. :goodjob:

maybe let TT take the last town?

Yes, I think that would be appropriate.
