Racism and religious intolerance and hope in the UK today.

A Muslim woman is one of several passengers who confront a black Christian subjecting a Jewish father and son to an anti-Semetic rant on a tube train.
Even if the aggressor does seem to be completely out of touch with reality (he says that King James of England was a black man), sadly, convincing blacks that Jews are to blame for slavery does seem a lot like the old divide and rule tactics, playing off all possible opponents against each other, that helped make the burdened White Man great.

Bojo gets asked about the conservative party changing its twitter page to the deliberately misleading "factcheckuk" name. Bojo proceeds to not answer and in his attempt to make fun of the question says that there are more important goals to set and questions to ask, and names a few so as to end with what the Labour stance is on brexit. But one of the goals he named as to be researched is Fermat's last theorem. Which has been proven...
What an utter buffoon.

With that performance, it's a wonder how anyone ever thought he was a good speaker. Typically, politicians are somewhat better at ignoring questions than that.

I watched the four interviews live with Jeremy Corbyn, Nicola Sturgeon, Jo Swinson and Boris Johnson.

I thought it was all rather drawn. None of them messed up, but they all missed better answers.

None of them would have made it on Mastermind or Eggheads, much more worthwhile spending an hour viewing.

I wasn't so keen on the host's tactic of lettting an individual make speeches rather than questions; and of letting an individual
make multiple questions or have several ask a question, that let the party leader choose the easiest question to answer.

Corbyn is obviously a better public speaker. Bojo is pretty much a laughing stock as a speaker...

Yes, but it is a UK general election not a Greek drama.

And I think that UK voters prefer pantomine (Xmas approaching) to classical oratory.

At some point the guardian should just f off.
Not seeing why they pester and beg anyone reading an article on their site to pay them money either; surely the special interest groups should provide enough cash already.

So, you criticise the Guardian for being beholden to special interests, yet also criticise them for wanting to be independently financed?

They aren't independently financed - nor do they aspire to be, given they clearly don't express anything but a shadow blairite party which no longer exists...
My whole point there is that it is all a farce and make-believe.

Oh yes you do, tjs282.

This might just be part of the sad worldwide trend that makes a lot of people take some sort fo perverse pride in not knowing mathematics.

I think that Boris just had heard of the last Fermat theorem when he was in Eton*, and then of course didn't learn anything about the solution a few years later, but wanted to show off and so produced another of his cretinous gems ;)

*morelike Eaton, by now

Apparently one of the Tories campaign promises is allocating funds for a large-scale program of pothole repair.

Now, running on a program of infrastructure repair is perfectly sensible. Running on a platform of repairing infrastructure which your party allowed to deteriorate is cynical, but predictable; this was part of Trump's platform. But running for re-election on this platform? After your party has spent nine years watching the country's infrastructure decay, having done nothing to prevent it? That's not cynical, that's stupid. "People like that re-form. Maybe we should get us some?" "I'll re-form you, ya soft-headed sumbitch. How we gonna run re-form when we're the damn incumbent?"

I think that one sad little policy says more about how the Tories are pitching themselves in this election than they could have intended.

Not sure how a chief rabbi is fit to argue who is fit for prime minister of Britain. I'd attribute it to madness.
We should also hear from the archbishop of Canterbury. Ask him about prince Andrew as well while you are at it.

At least Dr Welby is the leader of the established church.

My take is that the reason Labour in general and Corbyn in particular gets blasted with accusations of antisemitism is basically the fact that they are (again) social democrats and take position as such on the Israeli treatment of the Palestinian people. That happens to also be a slight on the hypocrite UK position and possibly a greater one on best friend the US. In a UK obsessed with its numerous nationalities that’s a really easy populist issue to hammer home cheap points on without dealing with the real issue – which of course is Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.
