Berserker (Norway) - 14
Bireme (Phoenicia) - 20
Black Army (Corvinus/Hungary) - 20 Carolean (Sweden) - 18 (17+1) There's two things I like about this unit. 1) one of the few UUs that are resourceless. 2) Run the Logistics policy card, get a GG, and get the Redeploy promotion to have a 6 movement, 78 max CS unit in the Renaissance era. Excellent for defense obviously, but also good for city attacking once you get them right up to the city.

Hetairoi (Macedon/Alexander) - 20 Hoplite (Greece) - 14 = 17 - 3. So spearmen kind of suck. So you would think an upgraded spearman might be ok. But no! A hoplite by itself is literally just a reskinned spearman. There is 0 difference. What you need to do is to build TWO of them, yes two, place them next to each other and never let them separate. Then and only then can they beat warriors, just barely, and they still get slaughtered to swords. No thank you.

Okihtcitaw (Cree) - 18 = 17 + 1 Giving this unit back some love. It’s more costly than a scout, but not by much. It’s actually the same cost and strength as a warrior, which makes it the ideal opener. Run the Double XP card and it can very quickly get the +20 all-combat promo (It gets XP from discovery as well as combat), which makes it stronger than even a fully upgraded warrior and it’ll also have extreme movement, vision, and eventually stealth. Once +20 it’s stronger than a base swordsman and competitive against promoted ones. It upgrades to beefy Rangers and outstanding Spec Ops.

Barbary Corsair (Ottomans) - 21 Berserker (Norway) - 2 = 5 - 3 The math behind the berserker just doesn't fit with how civ6 is currently balanced. The promise is that you can have a unit with 50 attack str, 4 movement! Wow! But A unit like this already exists - the knight. (Womp womp.) And unlike the Berserker, the knight isn't rated at just 35 defense. FXS, to be fair, tried buffing him, but with all the other medieval unique melee bros at 45 base strength, wouldn't it make more sense to have him at 45 base with a +5 on the attack? The core problem with raiding units is that they get shot at by cities. Glass axeman here can't take a hit!

Maryannu Chariot Archer (Egypt) - 20 Minas Geraes (Brazil) - 22 = 21 + 1. This unit is only held back by being attached to the brazilian civ. It's an oppressively powerful UU. Battleships are already very strong; this comes an era earlier and has +10 strength in all cases to boot; they unlock with the civic that gives you corps & fleets. If you applied this to literally any other modern era unit, people would cry about how OP it was. For example, imagine if germany had a panzer that came in the industrial and had 90 strength. Yeah, that would be a problem, wouldn't it?
Extra points for a clever choice outside the box.

By the way, have you faced Crouching Tigers in a rough terrain? It is a very ugly business, I can tell you. In hills and forests and forested hills lines of these guys can pulverize quite a few attackers. And if you place them in a bendy line on Great Wall tiles... I think they should be higher than Hoplites.
