Khevsur (Georgia) - 17 = 20 - 3 These come at a higher tech than swordsman, so you are almost at muskets. You can't upgrade your warriors to them. They cost almost twice the production as a swordsman and my crossbows will murder them. They should come with ironworking, not military tactics.

And you start on crappy coast with no production most of the time...overrated

Mountie (Canada) - 16 (15+1) - In my opinion, we need more unique units like this. The Mountie is truly unique - it's weak in combat but can be expended to create a National Park, making it the only civ that doesn't need to spam Faith for that. Canada doesn't get any faith bonuses anyway, so that works out particularly well, and Canada is meant to be a peaceful civ that can't even declare surprise wars, so what use would they have for a strong combat unit? For civs with incentives toward peace, I wouldn't mind seeing more unique units that have a role outside simply fighting other units.

That promotion might help make them more mobile depending on the terrain, but you'll need a few more promotions before you get anything that actually make them better at surviving. I'd like to see them get a small bonus against Barbarian units.

Viking Longship (Norway/Harald Hardrada) - 21 (20+1) I have to completely disagree with the above poster who voted these down. If you're playing as Norway you can pop these things out in 2 turns a lot of time if you use the military policy card for shipbuilding, and it's not like you need that many of them to benefit from them early. Even if you don't think your opponents will settle near the coast that early, these will last until Caravels come out and that takes a few ages in my experience. Plus, the cities themselves don't have to be on the coast, because you'll be pillaging any improvements or districts there instead (for science and culture!), and you'll be grabbing all of those goody huts in the ocean that your opponents can't even get to yet. Opponents will have trouble dealing with them as they're stronger than galleys and can retreat to the ocean any time they're in trouble where they can heal to full. Admittedly a lot of these benefits come from Norway and Harald's abilities, but it all synergizes into a great total package IMO.

EDIT: After GS you can build these and standard chariots the same time, but still dont see any use of building it, I prefer 1 archer and 1 chariot instead for the same price, simply because ALWAYS early in the game 2 units are better than one unit. I really can't believe noone gave it -3 yet, and at the same momemt Domrey has 11, Cree's Okisth has 10 and even Carolean with pretty high potential is disliked!

Warak'aq (Inca) - 23 (22+1) I just fell in love with those crazy faster and cheaper versions of 4lvl X-bows, you can prebuilt them by spamming the cheapest unit in a game, and uniquely upgrade extremely fast by using 100% experience card (2 attacks and each of them is worth double exp means you get 4times more exp than any other unit!) and +20 strenght promotion is crazy overpowered meaning Inca dont even need a bombard to take down city defenses. Yes, it has only 1 range, but initial 2 promotions, taken very quickly because of exp bonus, cancel the only drawback of using them instead of Xbows. Brilliant, impressive, extremely strong and in opposite to many strong units here -very very very fun to use!

They are simply too ineffective in combat and by the time you can pull off a terracotta army slingshot, skirmishers are on the scene. I like the unit conceptually, and it hearkens back to the shoshone pathfinder (what a unit that was!!) But a Okihtcitaw ambush rush is just so high effort (40 str at 3 promos) for what could be an oligarchy swords rush achieving the same effect (40str all the time, 3 move at 2 promos) but with more units. In fairness, the rest of the Cree kit is outstanding, it just doesn't trickle down to these guys.

Skirmishers are pretty meh units, but these guys get +50% more ranged damage, and then a second attack, for a total of 3x the offense. Double attacks means double xp, survey card means quadruple xp. It's outrageous. Once they have ambush those factor coalesce to make them unstoppable units. And it's not even hard: find an unwalled city or two and just farm it for 10 turns in a border war. You only need 2-3 of these guys at ambush to win every subsequent war on any difficulty. (With ambush and two attacks, these are effectively 77:c5rangedstrength:/40:c5strength: units. In the middle ages.) Bonus cool point for using Qhapacs to teleport behind them. Nani!
