What kind of mental illness does Mike Pence have?

I don't know anything about this guy to come up with anything clever so here's a list of mental disorders I think a random politician working under Trump is likely to have:

Ganser syndrome sounds promising:

It is characterized by nonsensical or wrong answers to questions or doing things incorrectly

Check out Histronic personality disorder:

It is characterized by a pattern of excessive attention-seeking emotions, usually beginning in early adulthood, including inappropriately seductive behavior and an excessive need for approval. Histrionic people are lively, dramatic, vivacious, enthusiastic, and flirtatious.

What kind of mental illness does Mike Pence have?

Simple idiocy.

Yeah, I don't know if we have to classify every case of "that's a really weird dude" as a mental illness. How abnormal is his mind really statiscally ? The world is full of people who are far too religious and men who are think every woman who smiles at them wants to shag them in a public bathroom.

There was a good letter to the editor of the New York Times earlier this year which seems applicable. Written by the guy who apparently chairs the committee that created DSM4:

Fevered media speculation about Donald Trump’s psychological motivations and psychiatric diagnosis has recently encouraged mental health professionals to disregard the usual ethical constraints against diagnosing public figures at a distance. They have sponsored several petitions and a Feb. 14 letter to The New York Times suggesting that Mr. Trump is incapable, on psychiatric grounds, of serving as president.

Most amateur diagnosticians have mislabeled President Trump with the diagnosis of narcissistic personality disorder. I wrote the criteria that define this disorder, and Mr. Trump doesn’t meet them. He may be a world-class narcissist, but this doesn’t make him mentally ill, because he does not suffer from the distress and impairment required to diagnose mental disorder.

Mr. Trump causes severe distress rather than experiencing it and has been richly rewarded, rather than punished, for his grandiosity, self-absorption and lack of empathy. It is a stigmatizing insult to the mentally ill (who are mostly well behaved and well meaning) to be lumped with Mr. Trump (who is neither).

Bad behavior is rarely a sign of mental illness, and the mentally ill behave badly only rarely. Psychiatric name-calling is a misguided way of countering Mr. Trump’s attack on democracy. He can, and should, be appropriately denounced for his ignorance, incompetence, impulsivity and pursuit of dictatorial powers.

His psychological motivations are too obvious to be interesting, and analyzing them will not halt his headlong power grab. The antidote to a dystopic Trumpean dark age is political, not psychological.

Everyone on this thread should be ashamed for not noticing that the OP is citing Onion-level fake news.

I don't think that this qualifies as a mental illness.

There's however a piece in the New Yorker where the writer argues that Pences stance is very sexist, because it essentially guarantees that female underlings will not rise in the part of the GOP hierarchy which Pence oversees.

Leftists have no evidence of Mike Pence denying women opportunities (and there is evidence to the contrary). They just assume it.

Nor do I. He refers to a "gene" in its populist rather than scientific sense, but then he is a politician not a scientist.

The logic there is all rather indirect. If women can not progress without private one to one meetings, then they have a limiting skill set.

Not dining alone with a women other than his wife is merely a very sensible precaution against innuendo and smear for a VP to take.

And the fact is that there are plenty of women who will try to use their feminine wiles to take advantage of any prominent succesful man.

I find this issue interestingly dividing. I guess the real issue is how many times did he have working lunches with guys. I mean, I get being concerned about appearances. I also get the idea that it was exclusionary

Ok so Trump's about as textbook a narcissist as you can get but what about Pence? Someone posted this article of the books of faces today & I could hardly believe how utterly ****oo the guy sounds.

Narz, that's not really what he said. That's a blog. Please don't fall for such things.

When someone (especially across the partisan aisle) says something mind-numblingly stupid, fact check it. The world is divided enough.

Calling The Onion fake news shows a crippling lack of understanding of either what The Onion does or what fake news is.

I meant literal fake news. News that is consciously and implicitly fake. :p

Ha! They got me. "Eve gene" should have been the tip-off, but instead it cemented my suspicion of his lunacy. In retrospect, the speech patterns aren't his.

Did I stutter, son?

Well I can't hear you over the intertubes, at least not through this forum, so I don't know. My befuddlement is not that I didn't catch what you wrote, but that I have no idea why you wrote it.

Craig Silverman basically coined the term with his investigation into the Macedonian fake news sites, and while a narrow reading of his definition would cover satire, everyone isn't in on your joke, and calling satire "fake news" leads credence to people throwing around "fake news" in the other direction, in reference to news that is very much not fake.

Moderator Action: The two of you really do not want to explore that avenue of discussion.

Moderator Action: Last warning. Further replies about this will result in infractions.

This response provides even further evidence that you do not have any idea what The Onion is about. The Onion doesn't present news at all, fake or otherwise.

I dunno, but Pence has been a bit of a nobody so far. There's been a very public tug of war between Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner, but I've barely heard a peep about what Pence is up to (though I think we can rule out speaking to women that aren't his wife).

I'm fairly sure he knows what The Onion is. I think he is saying the news is so fake it may as well be a joke.

Man, I'm really not into calling stupid politicians mentally ill. It's got enough stigma as it is. The guy who literally came up with narcissist personality disorder diagnosis says Trump doesn't fit.

They're just major a-holes. Doesn't mean we have to start tossing around backseat mental health diagnoses.
