I can finally cross The Usual Suspects off my list (I know, I'm way behind). I really enjoyed it, though I have to admit I saw the "surprise twist!" coming from a mile away. 8/10

Homefront (2013)

Jason Statham's martial arts skills backed by a decent supporting cast. James Franco, Clancy Brown, Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth playing against type, and the little girl who played "Little Rock" in Zombie Land. Frank Grillo and Rachael Lefevre in small roles.

Dull. Predictable. Essentially a remake of 1,000 other movies - Walking Tall and the like - that offers nothing new or inventive. I actually couldn't remember the name of it just now, while I was writing this, I had to go to IMDb. It says Pruitt Taylor Vince was in it too, but I don't remember seeing him. Maybe I fell asleep and missed him.

3/10

Frozen. Finally watched it last night. I must say, given all the hype, I was disappointed. Beauty and the Beast still reigns supreme as my fav Disney movie.

What's more impressive to me is that you hadn't had it spoiled for you in all that time.

Did they serve peptide cake in the dessert car?
This is some kind of nerd identification codephrase, isn't it? Like "flash" and "thunder" for Allied paratroopers stumbling around the dark. If so, I got you.

I watched "Lawless". It is set in an extremely rural Virginia county in 1931 under prohibition. You follow three brothers who are moonshiners and bootleggers. The commonwealth attorney appoints a "special deputy" from out of town to put an end to their activities.

My major issue was understanding what was being said. Especially Forrest he growled and grunted his way through the entire film. I could just about understand the rest of the characters but I ocassionally had to pause and work out what was being said. This isn't a film for an international audience.

I'll give it a 5/10

Also, did some people still wear the puritan garb from the 17th century in 1931? Saw some pilgrims in that film.

Cockneys and Glaswegians are sometimes (usually?) incomprehensible, but Monarch of the Glen hardly featured a bunch of Glaswegians. You're just not trying hard enough, V. :p

The best disney movie(s) is always the ones you saw as a kid.

For me it's the Jungle Book.

Frozen is not to bad, but I can't help comparing it to H.C.Andersens tale. The splinters from the troll's magic mirror that Kai get in his eye and changes his view of the world, that's just an image that stays with you.

I do. A lot of SyFy shows are made in Canada, for example, and I watch a lot of BBCAmerica. That's about as foreign as I want to get.

Ha! Payback at last! While running with closed captioning is the norm for me now, it hasn't always been, EXCEPT when watching British movies/TV. My Name Is Joe, Lock, Sock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Monarch Of The Glen, and so forth. All great entertainment, but they would have been totally incomprehensible without closed captioning or subtitling.

 I'm surprised as Arakor you didn't get Monarch of the Glen. Lock Stock must sound hateful to a foreigner. Cockney can sound menacing.

I would have really benefitted from subtitles in Lawless.

Aye I rarely watch anything made outside the USA/UK. There isn't much quality out there anyway.

mud (2012)

pretty good overall, but dang does it feel like it never ends. Dragged out things way too much, in my not-so-humble opinion.

I also think it maybe blends the "coming-of-age" story and being more, um, "realistic" a little too much. I.e.:

Spoiler actually not really spoilery at all :
for instance, I totally can see two 14 year olds helping out some guy for a gun. Or just because they're bored. But it mixes between being too sappy with the main character and then just being a teenager (I do like how he punches everybody though)

I also like the strategic time-skip of having a seen "we gotta go save his life, but lemme put on this button up shirt while I run somehow"

I'll give it 7/10, initially would be more 7.5/10 ish. Really dragged.

I watched Enemy. A really strange film. If you like working out what the hell happened after the film you will enjoy this. A total findmuck

I recommend watching it.

Maybe Mr. bhsup would benefit from watching Trainspotting in order to improve his understanding of other Englishes.

I'll let you know in a couple of hours, but I am not a huge Ewan McGregor fan. Amazon Prime rocks.

EDIT: Nope, nevermind. Not watching some movie about some heroin loser explaining why he wants to not conform. Didn't even make it 5 minutes.
