What movie(s) have you seen IX:The Police Academy Edition

I recently watched District 9. After the film I was left asking so many questions.

Spoiler :
Why didn't the humans just invade the mother ship and learn what technology was onboard there?
Why did Wikus transform into an alien just by inhaling some fuel?
Why was Christopher secretly plotting to return to the mothership by himself?
We are led to believe the aliens are refugees from their home world. Why is Christopher then so readily able to return home for help? And why couldn't he just load up all the aliens and take them home?

Due to these questions I regard the film as a bit of a let down. Perhaps a 5.5/10.

It's probably my favorite movie, so I'm a little biased.

Spoiler :
Good question.
It seems MNU and possibly world governments didn't want the aliens to leave, partly because their tech was valuable and partly because they feared retaliation for their treatment of aliens. Christopher and his son were apparently the only intelligent aliens in the group, the others being drones, and they lacked the means to take all the millions of aliens with them on that one little shuttle.
The true reason for the aliens' arrival is never mentioned. I read either a fan theory or a deleted part of the movie, can't remember which, that said they were an expendable group of mostly drones sent to explore other planets and mine for resources, but something went wrong.

Another thing me and Salty disagree with! Is this the north-south divide?
I really enjoyed District 9.

I didn't say it was a bad film, it was quite good in places. I liked the documentary style and the bumbling inefficiency of Wikus during the evictions.

I was always taught that you southerners were queer folk and not to be trusted!

Rewatched "Hero" with Jet Li. The plot is rather made up, the ending self-explanatory, but still, the movie has some artistic qualities your average wuxia film doesn't have.

The rain of arrows alone paid for the ticket.

Watched the Dawn of Apes. I like the idea, but much more would have preferred to read the script instead of watching the movie adaptation.

As with sci-fi, so far nothing compares to Strugatsky brothers' "Roadside picnic".

For some reason, i find that book a work of genious for one reason - aliens simply do not care. In real life, i suppose, they would come there, look around, leave some thrash and leave. Just like in novel. Nobody cares about humans, we have to get our **** together ourselves.

Rewatching - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1954299/ Bruce Lee Doc (7,5 imdb). It's not that bad, but i find it flawed due to cultural differences.

Do you know what they call a quarter-pounder of cheese in France*?
Pulp Fiction.

*Synekdoche for any civilized place ;)

Because of the metric system.

:\

Anyway, i watched Lord of Tears.

Overall, 8,7/10 or something just short of 9/10 in my view.

The negative aspect is that it is low-budget (and it shows). Apart from that...
Spoiler :
The ending was not what i was expecting to be, and was too vague for it's own sake, in my view.

First movie by this Scottish director, and worth a watch, although i can see how others may not like it as much as i did :)

"I am the Inevitable End of All Things".

Watched Staying Alive yesterday. Mindless flick for studying to, hey!

Guardians of the Galaxy was incredibly fun. I'll have a review up later...

Even with plot holes you could fly the Dark Aster through, and a host of walk-on folks they give you no time to get to know or care about, Guardians of the Galaxy was clearly the most entertaining of the summer films, so far, with a great core cast and some great lines I will likely be repeating until November:

Spoiler :
I am Groot.

Spoiler :
I am Groot!

Spoiler :
I.... AM... GROOT!

Spoiler :
We are Groot.

Can't wait for _random_'s review!

Watched the Dawn of Apes. I like the idea, but much more would have preferred to read the script instead of watching the movie adaptation.

Why? The visuals are what make that movie.

I saw Edge of Tomorrow a few weeks ago.

One of the best Tom Cruise movies I've seen in a while. Emily Blunt was pretty good too. Edge might be (in my opinion) the best blockbuster of the summer. To be honest though, I haven't seen Dawn yet.

8.5/10

See Dawn. Dawn better. Edge Good. Dawn better.

Guardians fun.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 6/10

Good fun. Some of the rave reviews I've heard and read have made me wonder if I missed something, but I've also heard some ranting reviews that made me wonder why the author had bothered to go see a Summertime adventure movie in the first place. I think my 14-year-old self would already be waiting in line to see it again (I saw Aliens seven times on its first release). I didn't come out of the movie thinking that I'd wasted 2 hours, but I was kind of wondering if I should've gone to see Boyhood instead.

(Translation = I say 7.5/ 10 just for all the 80s refs and 70s soundtrack music adds 1.5 points easy)
