What Video Games have you been playing II: Have you finished that backlog?

I prefer games like Dragon Age: Origins; you have multiple choices, but in the end, you gotta do all of them.

I have found that the beauty of ES games is in their replayablity rather than in their continuous playability.

Morrowind: I'm the archmage and I start the fighters guild quest line. The fighter's guild treats me like a raw apprentice! Poor game design. They send me to kill a rat! It's like they don't even know who I am!

Oblivion: I reach high rank in the mage's guild and start the fighter's guild quest line. They still treat me like a raw apprentice! Poor game design. Holy mackerel, they send raw apprentices to contend with some behemoth beast that has appeared right in the middle of town that no one else even notices!

If I want to play as a mage, I do. I go do stuff mages would do, like join the mage's guild. If I want to see what the fighter's guild quest line is like I start out as some sort of fighter and join the fighter's guild. I don't approach it as the archmage who had a midlife crisis and became the head of the thieves guild has now had another and is joining the fighters guild as an apprentice, because the game can't really handle that well...surprise.

The whole 'play a single character through every quest the game has to offer' concept is lost to me...and once I lost it the games were far more satisfying.

See, Dragon Age still forces me to go through the crappy storyline at the end of the day. In TES, if I don't want to do the crappy storyline, I can just walk away and pick flowers or something. Given how difficult it is for me to be impressed by any story in any medium... well, I guess TES is kinda like "okay, I know you have tough standards, kiddo, so we'll just let you choose your own story, you arrogant little bastard".

After I did two (three?) playthroughs in Oblivion where I did the "lol do everything including main quest but except for dark brotherhood because thats not my cup of tea" I started doing more focused, "unique" playthroughs to keep things fresh. Right now I'm almost finishing up my Khajiit battlemage (with the Vilja mod for adding RP fun)

As a suggestion...

Pick some quest that you did for the first time late in one of those 'super jack does all trades' playthroughs. Consider how much more fun you may have had experiencing that quest the first time (which by definition you only get to do once) as an appropriate level character.

You may see something that will change your approach to the next ES game and make it far more enjoyable.

I tend to do most of the side quests again in every playthrough. I guess since they're not as intensive and time-consuming as the major questlines they feel fresher every time I do it.

For instance until my current playthrough I didn't even realize the Jemane twin brothers had a final quest in their mini questline, so that was pretty cool.

Spoiler :

I talk about the quest where the Dunmer bloke asks you find the Chorrol sword that the Jemane brothers' father stole.

That's the reason I haven't 'finished' Skyrim yet. I have started eight or nine different characters and used most of them only for one 'guild' questline because I like roleplay and specialization. My Khajit thief completed the Thieves Guild quest line and had pretty good skills for the Dark Brotherhood line, but I payed him as a thief with an aversion to unecessary bloodshed, so I had to start a new character. I've played an Orc who never cast a single spell or stole a single item, I've played an Argonian mage who never equipped a weapon or armor, I've played a psychotic Bosmer who would start a fight by sneaking up, casting a rage spell and take potshots until the first enemy was dead and could be raised as a zombie...

Theme Hospital - it's good wholesome fun.
And difficult to master.

I finished the skyrims main questline a few days ago, figured I should complete one elder scrolls game I own.

Mount and Blade: Warband Multiplayer. Found a nice server, and it's kinda addictive.

I just beat the King of Scales in Hand of Fate early access. Now that's a crazy game! Just don't get a huge failure on the Royal Treasury or Wheel of Fate *shudder*

Would you recommend FTL though? I have been going back and forth between whether or not to get it since it came out, but I just can't seem to make a decision.

I can endorse it without hesitation. It's pretty good IMO.

You're a good person. I've spent many a happy hour treating lethal cases of slack tongue and a nasty case of The King personality disorder.

Oh yes I have very fond memories of that one :) Just that at some point there was a bug in my version which prevented me from playing on :(

Get yourself over to gog.com. You won't regret it.

EA have released a free version of Fifa, called "Fifa World", for PC. I've been playing it and so far it seems just like regular Fifa, except it only has Ultimate Team and Online Seasons. The Ultimate Team looks identical, but Online Seasons has a limit to the number of games you can play per day before you have to spend "credits" to buy more. So it's mostly geared towards Ultimate Team.

Anyway, it's worth giving it a go - it's free. And if you do, use this link and I get free coins if five of you sign up :D https://www.easportsfifaworld.com/ref/c6HkI7W_r3QYVooafAc_wA

Ooer! That's absolutely mental.

Is it a mental hospital?

I've been in a few hospitals that had obviously been designed this way.

It… looks like the old UFO games' maps.

So it does!

Bump time.

Today I added mambo/salsa/Latin/whatever to my Tropico Skyrim custom music. Best decision ever.

Especially that mambo that plays during combat, that's just hilarious.

I once was quite baffled how patients who where put in to the research station did never come out!
