What video games have you been playing V: the return of the subtitle

Verdun is fun, kind of janky controls and weak movement system, and the trench fighting often devolves into camping/sniping (bolt actions) so just know what to expect going in. Watch a gameplay video on YT and see if it's your kind of thing. Extremely different from say BF 1942.

Verdun is up there as one of my favorite FPSes I ever played. I hear a lot of comparisions to RO2, which is slightly accurate, although a bit more arcadey than RO2 (no friendly fire, less interaction with cover, etc)

That being said, as someone who loves this game, I want to dispel any misconceptions cardgame and my bf implied. Verdun can actually be very non-static if played right, and there is one factor in particular newbies overlook.

Be an NCO.

I know they're the least popular of the four squad roles since they carry mostly sidearms, but goddamnit the indirects that they can call-in, along with their ability to spawn you foward in no man's land, are speciclly designed to clear campers and give massive offensive pressure. I play a lot of NCO recently because I actually really enjoy it; calling in clutch atry barrages makes you feel amazing.

Anybody played Verdun? Is it good? Battlefield 1 had given me a hankering for some WW1 action. But on closer inspected, BF1 seems to have very little to do with WWI. Seems more like Dice made a game that is a WW1 skin for BF4. Which is very disappointing.

I laughed so hard when I saw Battlefield 1's bolt-action rifles with default fanciful scopes.

They're not even trying to hide the fact they're just putting WWI textures on a cut-and-paste modern shooter game.

Yeah, the preview vid I saw would have been disappointing if I'd been expecting anything else. The "run n' gun" shooters just don't interest me. Oh well.

IMO WWI has great potential for an amazing DICE title. But to make that they would have had to step out of their comfort zone and make a different type of game for a different type of war.
And with of course cavalry charges! Oh my!

I've been playing Civ 2 again :D I had forgotten how much I loved it. The only one out of the series which I have the patience to play through the modern era.

Just picked up a copy of Test of Time as well, so I'll be trying out Civ 2 fantasy and sci-fi soon.

Test of Time was the by-far superior version of Civ 2. I'm surprised you never picked it up before.

That'd be kinda strange since the other Battlefield games default to "iron sights" for pretty much everything in MP.

The BF4 community is already mocking itself over the kiddies that won't be able to use FLIR.

To be honest I never even realized it came out until the last couple of years. Played Civ 2 growing up and completely missed that ToT was ever released. I found a brand new copy on ebay and snapped it up :D

I started an original extended game and I will say that I will be installing some graphic mod packs ASAP...the terrain is making my eyes bleed.

I've been playing South Park: The Stick of Truth. I think it's very good, but it won't appeal to anyone that's not into the show already.

Sim3

Hubby is a criminal, aiming for Emperor of Evil. Wifie is shooting up the medical profession ladder. We're playing on Isla Paradicio because I wanted to build a houseboat.

Fallout New Vegas is a fun game to play
I'd been thinking about going back to the previous couple of Fallout games. I don't know how much replay value they'll have for me. I wonder what the state of the mod scene is for those games.

Heh. 'Mod scene.' :D

Getting in a Mass Effect mood again, so I'll probably be doing a playthrough of the greatest video game trilogy ever for about the seventeenth time.

The classic Fallouts or 3/NV?
Um. All of the above, I suppose. However, I still have 1 & 2 on disc, and my disc drive hasn't worked in a while. I haven't bothered to install a new one simply because I haven't had any call to use it in like a year. F3 & NV I have through Steam.

Well, for the classic Fallouts you just need Fallout Fixit for FO1, and Fallout 2 Restoration Project for FO2, both available on No Mutants Allowed.

It gets a bit more complicated with FO3/NV - I'd say you should visit nexusmods.com and check out the top endorsed mods (after filtering the 34239 nude skins/lewd armours).

If you're in a Mass Effect mood, why are you playing Super Mario Bros ?
