It served as a nice buffer between Nazi Germany and the USSR -- but it is not a nation, in spite of he common language -- there are no historical geographic boundaries or common culture, save for each city.

If Poland is east of the Danube, then it is west of the Danube as well.

Because the Danube is much longer than Poland (along the west-east axis).

For example the Danube flows through Galati and Izmail - and Poland is definitely west of these two cities...

Even the easternmost part of Poland is still west of Galati...

That was my point. The Balkans and eastern Europe (and parts of Western China) were liberated by the USSR. I was not making causality of "Because they were liberated by the USSR, they were Eastern Europe."

The Balkans also have a lot of Non-Nations, like Yugoslavia. But that is another story.

Lets include the Vistula River, and then can we all agree -- north of the Danube, northeast of the Danube and East of the Vistula is Eastern Europe. Poland is Eastern Europe.

Then again, all of Europe is really Western Asia. How's THAT for OT!

Also I bought Civ V really cheap on steam, and I still think it was a waste of money. Civ IV is so much better.

True dat. Civ V G&K with the DLC kicks ass, and the voiceover is the old "Reg" from Max Hedroom. Best thing about CIV IV was Nimoy.

Civ V's design principles are inherently flawed and no amount of nice new features can change that.

I can't go back to Civ IV after playing Civ V, its so much improved its not even funny. The only flaw right now is the lack of a Revolutions mod, or RFC.

But those will be modded in time, and Civ V will reign king like it is.

I didn't like that in civ v there is a huge need to spam and expand early on, and in the late game there are units everywhere. I like the game, but those 2 things annoyed me and I couldn't get used to them and enjoy the game as much as a result.

I never have that many units around. I don't think I've ever had... dunno, lotsof units. Less than 50 or 40, I'm pretty sure.

Do you think Civ VI will use dodecahedrons? I would buy it, then.

I like CIV III for a more base reason: it is easier for me to MOD and there are like a bazillion user-created mods for it.

I also play Civ in Ubuntu Linux, using Wine, and while I had to tweak the launcher to play Civ III, it plays with only minor sound issues.

Civ V, however, thanks to Steam, played in Wine right out of the "box" thanks to Steam.


Civ IV crashes every time in Wine.

And, yeah, not a fan of hexagons -- they burned down my ranch and stole all my cattle. (not really).

I'm not quite sure in what region of Europe Poland should be, but I do know they have earned their place in the annals of the sciences. You have the guy that proves heliocentrism, and then nearly half a millennium later, you get the guy that discovers the first extrasolar planet. Not to mention the first female Nobel laureate and Nobels in multiple sciences too. How does that even happen? Simply stunning.

I don't know how serious you are, but hexagons are really the last problem Civ5 has. Actually it's one of the few good decisions made there, even though I don't care that much either way.

The number of adjacent tiles has some relevance but it doesn't make or break your game design.
