Marvel Studios Metacritic scores (I threw in several X-Men & Fantastic Four films, too). I definitely liked The New Mutants more than Eternals. It wasn't good, but it wasn't boring. The FF movies with Jessica Alba and Chris Evans were pretty bad, but that was before the superhero floodgates opened and we didn't have a lot to choose from. I don't think I've seen the others at the bottom of this list.

The newest Spiderman is utterly fantastic. Been twice to see it, never done that before.

I agree. I was surprised to see it only get a 71 on this list. Behind Dr. Strange and equal to Shang-Chi? Are they high? :crazyeye:

I know an aggregate formula should average things out, but I really a feel a few "edgy" or " too intellectual for a Super Hero Movie" reviews bomb it and that throws the whole scores out.

It's a testament to the quality of the MCU that there so many good movies on that list. My eyes initially focused on "Ant-Man" for some reason, and my reaction was why is it so low. Then scanning all the ones above it I realize that it is low on a list of great movies. And really many of them are very close together in terms of quality.

But MetaCritic is basically junk. I'd rather see a list of aggregate user scores.

Everything above "Last Stand" is good to great, and a few below I consider good too.

I've not seen Eternals, but based on feedback, I'd say that movie, Dark Phoenix (muh gawd that was bad), Punisher:WZ and FF (2015) are the real clunkers on that list. I mean truly awful movies. All the rest are average to great. I actually enjoyed the Gruffudd/Alba FF movies...certainly not great movies but entertaining enough at the time.

Shrek is awesome. Why was Shrek 2 bad for you? From the third film onwards it did get repetitive, but the first two were, for me, great.

I started watching Eternals (2021). Godawful boring. I got about halfway through, then shut it off and went to bed. A couple of the action scenes were okay, but the villains aren't very interesting. They reminded me a lot of the aliens in Edge of Tomorrow, except in that movie I felt like we weren't supposed to ever see those things clearly. But what's really crippling this movie is that I just couldn't care less about any of the characters. The performances are all wooden. That has to be the script, right? They can't all be department-store mannequins. Or the director was in way over her head, which I was kind of worried about, going in. I've only seen Gemma Chan in Humans, and she was literally playing a robot in that, so I didn't think anything of her performance at the time. Maybe she's just that detached and stiff? And just what the f is Angelina Jolie doing? I might try to finish it this weekend, on the off chance that it redeems itself, but jesus, what a chore... Maybe I'll just read the spoilers on the web instead.

I just saw the Eternals as well and while I liked it better than you I certainly see where you're coming from. None of the main characters were very interesting in of themselves. I did like the conflict between the main characters though, or at least the concept they were going for even if the execution fell flat. I probably like Kit Harrington's character the best which is a shame since he only has like 10 minutes of screen time. Overall I think it's watchable but not something I'll come back to anytime soon.

Spoiler :
There's also an amusing meta-joke if you've ever seen Game of Thrones. Kit Harrington's character in GoT hated Cersei but in Eternals he's in love with Sersi.

Eternals.

Spoiler :
Where the hell were the Avengers?

Well, it was better than expected. But I still can't go higher than a 5/10. There are... many complaints I have. It's better than Black Widow by far and I rated it the same as Shang-Chi.

No Deadpool 2.......
Yeah, that's a weird omission; it's been out longer than several of the others (e.g. Spider-Man:NWH, Eternals)

But @EgonSpengler, did you compile this list yourself? Because I was wondering why the Sony/Raimi Spidey movies (2002-2007) aren't on it -- even though the Marvel/Singer X-Men movies (2000-2006), the Fox FF movies (2005, 2007), and the Sony/Webb TASM movies (2012, 2014) all are. What gives? Do you hate Tobey Maguire that much? ;)

Guys, I am not sure what good you saw in Greenland. It is rather boring, imo... Nearing the end now (maybe there is something good waiting there somehow).
Was just watchable for me yup (usually means boredom and okay that was nice alternate).
Shrek is awesome. Why was Shrek 2 bad for you? From the third film onwards it did get repetitive, but the first two were, for me, great.
Maybe not bad but Shrek 2 didn't have the same road & buddy movie feeling for me. 1 was natural.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). The corporate culture aspect was of interest to me, having worked in a similar industry for a time, although as it turns out with a completely different culture. It's a "see it once" film for me. Apparently less of it was made-up than you would think watching the film, but I don't think a single character was likeable. Maybe Aunt Emma. But I probably won't watch it again.

Commando (1985). Most definitely an Arnold film. The first half is better than the second. An interesting premise, but by the second half it's all action, no plot, and a remarkable invincibility to bullets. John Matrix (Arnold) is much more Rambo than John McClane. Still enjoyed it.

Last night: Screamarathon!

Just finished watching The Eternals

This ended up being the worst of any of the Marvel movies I have watched so far. I found the whole thing.. boring. What kept me watching was the promise of yet to come cool visuals, but in the end those weren't really that good either. That Ten Rings or whatever movie had such superior visuals! So this movie gets an overwhelming yawn from me.

The premise itself was pretty stupid, but I was willing to go with it, hoping that the story gets better. Before "creation".. these.. Eternals.. look like humans for some reason? Okay, whatever, let's see if this improves.. Ron Howard's voice: it didn't. Even the idiotic Nazi premise of Captain America was superior to this. That was at least palatable to some degree. Stupid, but not this stupid

The characters were for the most part forgettable and the first hour of the movie dragged on and on and on. Each time there was dialogue I was basically falling asleep. Uninspired dialogue that went on and on and on and didn't go anywhere. Action scenes were okay, but I did not care about the characters at all, so I didn't find myself cheering for anybody. Attempts at humour were meh and it just did not feel like any of the other MU movies at all, which usually have really good dialogue and writing, storytelling, well written characters, etc.

Even the Norse Marvel characters were presented us in a way that somehow engaged me and made it seem believable. Thor and Loki = Pretty epic characters. Well written and acted. Here? All I remember is that somebody was named after a soft drink.

Stupidity and boredom all around, I hope they don't end up making a sequel and focus their movie-making energy on something more worthwhile.

And did this really have to be 2 and a half hours long? They could have easily cut out an hour of this garbage and made it a bit more appetizing

If they were able to inject some of that MU humour and dialogue into the story I probably wouldn't have minded it. But that seemed to be missing too. Each time these eternals started yammering to each other I just wanted them to shut up
