I caught the second half of Thelma and Luis and I liked it. I do not know why they were on the run though and when I asked, the wife told me they were 'on the run from the patriarchy'.

I saw a scene from Demolition Man as it was on TV recently. When I was younger the one scene that confused me was the one that mentions how Taco Bell is all restaurants in the future because there's no Taco Bell in Britain. It was that scene and I saw that Taco Bell was dubbed to Pizza Hut.

That is made interesting by the fact that Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are branches of the same company.

"Thelma and Luis" sounds like a porn parody.

I saw The Rise of Skywalker last night. Some... interesting things. But it met my expectations and was an enjoyable watch. Some of the enjoyment was in taking the piss out of it afterwards.

However, what I liked most was that it gave us lore to work with, unlike TLJ which wrote the universe into a corner. You couldn't expect much from a patch job, but it was a more than acceptable action movie and it offers worldbuilding potential. People who are strictly movie-goers may not care about that, but since I consume supplemental material and even enjoy theorizing about lore, that's a big plus and basic expectation I have of the movies.

FUBAR 2 is one of the rare sequels that is hands-down better than the original. This movie saw the Deaner and Terry move to Fort McMurry to work at the oil fields and it goes about as expected. The thing that made this one stand out was a more coherent/interesting plot and much funnier jokes. The slapstick humor was still there of course and many of the cast and characters from the first movie make another appearance here. If you like Trailer Park Boys and Canadian redneck humor, this movie is for your.

I watched Solo last night. Ugh. What a waste of film. It's two hours that I will never get back.

At first I thought you meant "Free Solo" and was going to take you to task. Then I realized you saw some Star Wars spin off, I didn't mind that you called it bad.

I just watched a "Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker" bootleg on the internet.

(Solo and Rouge One are also films I only saw in similar bad quality bootlegs.)

(I was planning to go see it with a friend at a local AMC theater where tickets for morning showings are only $3.49. We had plans for a lunch date the week before Christmas, but that fell though. Her schedule did not give us much time before she had to go home for Christmas, but she insisted we'd at least get lunch within a week or two of her return. She seemed very interested in seeing a movie for that price, but was not sure her schedule would allow. She was supposed to get back on Monday but I have not head back from her yet. The AMC website lists no more morning showings. I almost went by myself today to a mid afternoon matinee for $4.99, but had to go to the restroom and did not get out soon enough to make it to that showing. The next showing would not have cost $7.99 and not ended soon enough for me to make dinner for my parents.)

I liked it much better than "The Last Jedi." (I admit Episode VIII has some of the best acting, dialogue, and visuals, but the plot and pacing ruined it.) The beginning and middle were enjoyable, but the ending was a bit disappointing. Palpatine's dialogue was horribly written. I really like some of the ideas they went with but don't love how they pulled it off.

Still, it was good enough that I'd still go see it in the theater if she wants to and they have another morning showing.

My current ranking for Star Wars films is:
1. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
2. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
3. Episode VII: The Force Awakens
4. Episode IV: A New Hope
5. Solo: A Star Wars Story
6. Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker
7. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
8. Episode I: The Phantom Menace
9. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
10. Rouge One: A Star Wars Story
11: Episode II: Attack of the Clones

I really enjoyed that one. What about it didn't you like?
It's really hard to quantify. A bad plot, plastic one dimensional characters, and ending leading to yet another sequel... I also felt that I knew what was going to happen in every scene, the movie telegraphed itself that badly.

I dunno, just all in all it didn't do anything for me. If I had paid money to see it I would have felt ripped off.

I remember thinking that Solo was better than I anticipated when I watched it, but now I can't really remember a thing about it.

I saw Ant Man and the Wasp over Christmas, which explained a couple of things I didn't understand in Avengers: Endgame.

That movie was terrible, probably my second least favorite marvel movie with only Thor Dark World surpassing it on the sucky scale. You could actually just watch the end credits scene and you know everything you need to for end game.

I watched SPEED for the millionth time last night. I always spot something new. When the bus almost mows down a bunch of kids, Sandra Bullock looks back over her shoulder and snarls, "Why aren't you in school?!"

Speed is one of those movies I never saw but need to. A bunch of random stuff from the 80s and 90s I missed as I was a kid/teenager and not watching R stuff then.

I'm surprised you have rogue one so low. Most people seem to love it. And solo so high. Most people seem to hate it. I also think Revenge of the Sith is very underrated. The plot is superb, the only thing that drags it down is they underdeveloped Anakin's turn to the dark side, but you can only do so much in a two hour movie. And scenes with padme are still cringeworthy and the end scene when Vader rises and realizes padme is dead and screams Noooo is so cheesy and stupid. But overall it has a terrific story, some really cool lightsaber fights, good pacing. I kind of just like to lump all the films into tiers.

Clearly the best: Empire strikes back
Great films: Force Awakens, Return of the Jedi, Rogue One, Reven of the Sith.
Good not great: Attack of the Clones, A New Hope
Mediocre: Last Jedi, Solo, Phantom Menace

Jury's still out for me on Rise of Skywalker.

Same. Also... @Lemon Merchant, @MagisterCultuum , @Synsensa , @hobbsyoyo and @civvver ...remember that we have a dedicated All Things Star Wars thread where the movies, particularly the latest installment, are being discussed in earnest.

Going against my usual rule of not watching movies with poor audience AND critics RT ratings... I watched Fantastic Beasts:Crimes of Grindenwald over the holiday. My wife and I had been re-watching all the Harry Potter movies as Amazon was offering them all for free, so after watching them we decided to watched the Fantastic Beasts movies as well. I had seen the first one before but not the second installment. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was actually pretty good and nowhere near as terrible as I expected it to be, given the RT ratings. I'm not really sure why the ratings are so low TBH.

The two things that disappointed me , SPOILER ALERT... were that:1) They didn't go anywhere near as deep into Dumbledore's family origins and what happened between him, his brother, his sister and Grindenwald, as I expected (which was really the whole reason I ignored the RT ratings and watched it anyway); and 2) In spite of the title... they never really show, or give any detailed explanation of WTH any of Grindenwald's so called "crimes" were... other than him having racist ideology. I mean he escapes from "prison" or "police" custody at the outset of the film... but they don't really show why he was there in the first place.

So it seems like he is essentially a political prisoner for being a bigot... although the knowledge of his bigotry seems more implied as a result of his followers' actions and statements rather than his own public statements. As I understand it though, they are doing a third film, so maybe they will explain more in that one.

Clint Eastwood's THE UNFORGIVEN. Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, and Next Supporting Actor.
I liked it but am confused. What does the title mean?

Funny you put these next to each other, given that the final lightsabre fight goes on waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.

Time for high culture to be restored to this thread.
Carl Theodor Dreyer's films: The Passion of Joan Darc (La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc/Jeanne d'Arc lidelse og død, 1928), which is one of the greatest films in history, The Word, (Ordet, 1955), Master of the House (Du skal ære din hustru, 1925), Vampyr (Vampyr, der Traum des Allan Grey, 1932).

As well as a few other films such as Sergio Leone's ‘For a few Dollars more’ and Dino de Laurentiis' ‘Banditi a Milano’ (both with Gian Maria Volonté) and I have finished by verifying that Jerry Lewis' success is unexplicable.

:rotfl: One can always learn something.
