While We Wait: Boredom Strikes Back

Why should experienced NESers want to waste their time with a poorly modded NES? Just a glance at the economic stats from most of the NESes you mentioned is enough to make me stay far, far away. Experienced mods have a better idea of the player-mod contract including quality, not just quantity, even if the quality control must preclude any update.

There's no such thing as an experienced mod who hasn't been unexperienced first. Of course their economic systems are going to be worse if no-one says what's wrong with them, or plays in their NESes so that they can develop them. Anyhow, their economic systems are mostly based on EQ's, and EQ's system spawned ABNW, which was successful. What is, in brief, so wrong with their economic stats?

The less I say about publicly EQ's NESes and their spawn, the better. If you really want to know, you can find me on #nes, or I will find the time to type a PM (eventually).

dupe post.

You mistake Kraz as the voice of all NESers.

The problem with those start-up NES, they were quite niche scenarios.. most people simply were not interested.

Another problem is to many new nesers burst onto the scene with a blaze of glory, to fizzle out within 1 or two updates. Us "older" nesers learn to keep out the way rather than waste energy on a NES that will not last.

If, they prove themselves, lead a nice long nes (10+ updates minimum) they will draw in players, and certainly get a big response to a second nes.

We are not being rude, you just can't imagine how many NES don't even make it to update 2.

I've been busy, and delinquent, but that hardly means it's dead.

Agreed. If busy and delinquent are the definition of dead, I've been a zombie lord for sometime now.

Abaddon hit the nail on the head (which is, I suppose, where one OUGHT to hit the nail) with the niche scenarios. I've really only joined LINESIII because thats the only living NES that I've surveyed and found compellingly interesting. It is true that experienced Mods get more players, but thats because players already trust the brand even if the idea is crazy. Whereas if you're a new-er Mod, you really need to sell people on the idea of your game to get interest. Not everyone is interested in the [insert very targeted theme here] and they have no frame of reference for your style or skills. Either convince them, through presentation or consistent updates/activity, that they should join or maybe fill a void that will draw them to the NES, like AltHistory or semi-modern or sandbox fantasy. But as a Mod, a lot of the burden is necessarily on you. Make your visuals pretty, make your update compelling and consistent, reward good stories, interact with the players and keep the stats up to snuff etc. etc.

Also, Kraznaya sort of reminds me of Symphony, in a very loose/vibe-ish way. Is he still around here at all?

He went off in a huff, never to return. Perhaps Kraz is his DL, who knows these days?

So? You don't have to use a DL the moment you create it.

Kraz is a chinese person who lives in CHINA.

Also Kraz is very new to NESing

Also Kraz is one person.

I'm sure he's not Symph's DL - the writing style is too different. Just saying vibes, mannnn, the vibes.

What was the reason for Symph's huffy departure?

After his huffing and puffing about people not maintaining their NES, he failed to keep his going past the first few updates.

The embarrasment caused him to flee (and edit out all 7k+ posts)

Also I rubbed that in his face and he hated me with a passion.

Also, we were not intelligent enough for him.

Not intelligent enough? That's preposterous. Most of you seem to be pretty bright individuals.

I'm of the opinion symphony got a government job and cleared his internet presence. Just saying :)
