While We Wait: Boredom Strikes Back

Ease of access - don't have to go buy a hard copy - and no shipping fees. Also a reason I like GamersGate for Paradox games.

I've honestly never had an issue with Steam messing up my computer. It's not a very big program, so I don't mind it running all the time. It made online gaming very convenient when I still played Team Fortress 2, as well. I've had a Steam account since 2004, when I got Half-Life 2, and not a single complaint since then - knock on wood.

Also, I swear I'll answer your questions soon; I was at a funeral this weekend, so I didn't exactly have time.

Well, just picked up Empire:Total War at Wal-Mart for pretty cheap. Tried to play it without any tutorials or anything. Lots of Prussians running away from very angry Poles :p

I like the look of it, but I hear you end up fighting afghans in north america and all kinds of historically accurate stuff like that :)

It's better than Rome on the historicity front, to be honest. Three Roman "houses" plus the Senate broke that game beyond all repair.

Ever play the Europa Barbarorum mod?

I also have had no real issues with steam so do not understand the fuss honestly.

All the time. If you ever read my "Titanomachia" timeline, it's basically all EB, all the time. I swear I've gotten better at Hellenistic history since then.

On the fun front Rome was best 3d Total war, factions felt unique.

So does anyone have Empire:Total war? I'd be up for a match or two once I figure things out. (or maybe even before then :p )

I got it. I got a mod on it, so I am not sure if it would influence an online game or not, but I am willing to try it. :)

Not really. Basically all the Greeks ended up being the same old, same old. All of the barbarians were also same old, same old, except for the Germans which were basically Greeks. Every faction's best infantry unit was the "copycat Roman legionary". And the Roman units had ridiculously amped stats and ran over everything.

I think the mods made up for the original's indisputable crappiness on that front.

More than. I love EB.

Yeah, 1.2, especially with the various hotfixes (you can find them compiled by MAA in a thread on the technical support page) is very stable.

I said felt unique, like a bioware game with the illusion of choice and consequences, except all the choices you make are of no consequence.

*snort* Fair enough.
